Comments on: NFL will now investigate Redskins bounty program

Anyone who has watched the NFL Network, has seen and heard the “Old Time” football players openly state, that hitting the opposing player in a manner to get them out of the game is common place.

However, in my HMO it becomes offensive when there is a bounty involved.

But as usual the media is blowing this out of proportion.

On a similar note: I feel sorry for those that make a comparison to the Patriots situation. These people must live very depressing lives, as they seem to derive joy by demeaning others.

Why doesn’t anybody actually learn the facts before( publishing/posting to ) an article like this? Matt Bowen was not a very good player for the Skins. Sounds like he is sour grapes. The COACHES didn’t organize the bounties. The PLAYERS did it the night before the games and put money in the pot from their own wallets. The TEAMS didn’t pay any bounties. So it doesn’t count against cap space. The teams shouldn’t lose draft picks because of it.If any punishment occurs, it should be on players like Bowen who have admitted to it.

Are all those who point to Spygate as “way worse” really that stupid or are is their jealousy just brainwashing them.

Look up the rules folks. Filming and analyzing signals from cameras in the stands is legal and all teams do it. Cameras on the sidelines are prohibited because Goodell doesn’t want that to be so visible and blatant to clueless fans.

How exactly have you all brainwashed yourselves into rationalizing why all coordinators on all teams still cover their mouths when calling plays?

And I love the “Patriots haven’t won anything since they stopped cheating”

Correct. They just came within a few points of winning two more Super Bowls and are the only team in history to go 16-0 in the regular season all since moving their cameras to the stands like all other teams.

Stop embarrassing yourselves.

Taking video on the sideline is worse than paying one group of players to sideline or cripple another group of players? Really?

You come off as someone with a hate on for the Patriots and are disappointed to find out that someone else bends the rules or steps outside of the guidelines. Hey, is either of these teams your favorite one?

The only thing the Pats did wrong was WHERE they put the cameras genius. All teams have people with binoculars or cameras trying to decipher play calls…that’s why assistants all cover their mouths when calling in plays. You are either not very smart, or a Saints/Skins fan. The two are not mutually exclusive.

This will open a can of worms. If the start with penalizing teams because of this then they have to go back to games like the 1990 Eagles-Redskins “BodyBag” game. Buddy Ryan called it before the game. He said they would need body bags. That seems like intent to injure other players.

Really when you look at this and put it into prospective, it is really 1 competitor conspiring to put another out of the competition not unlike what Tonya Harding did to Nancy Kerrigan. And Tonya was banned from U.S. Figure Skating for life, And also She received three years probation, 500 hours of community service and a $160,000 fine. I know I know this is different because football is hitting and injuries happen , But it is same because if the injuries that are inflicted are on purpose it is premeditated assault and that is a crime in the laws eyes.

You must be clueless to think that taping signals is way worse then putting a bounty on someone with the intent to injure and put him out of the game. Don’t get me wrong, Spygate was wrong but putting a bounty on someone is almost criminal.

I think some of you folks are a bit soft, but then again this is an internet blog or whatever its called. When I played high school ball, i played to hurt and injur….with no bounty…yer gonna tell me that a couple extra hundred to a grand or so is supposed to make guys in the NFL play any harder?….really?….I’m for Greg and the bounties…and any other team that has them…bigmike7914 thank you sir. Many players have done worse on their own free time and played on. The powers that be will probably make an example of g. Williams, but for the sake of keeping football the best
that god has ever created, let it go and move on.

You can’t change what happened 10 minutes ago. What’s with the witch hunt? The NFL is beginning to resemble our over bearing government…If they just keep creating new rules(Laws) people wont break all of the current ones.

Back then, it was standard operating procedure to just obliterate people going across the middle. What bounty? It was football. Not just Tatum, either. Atwater, Rodney Harrison, Donnie Shell, Pat Fischer, Reinfeldt, a number of people used to explode on receivers….

Sorry to be that guy, but really? lets look at this. not only did the saints have a bounty system, and target, on Farve in 09. ( any QB that season in playoffs) which is pretty obvious. and nothing was called!?
I was well and done, not worried about the 09 NFC title game. until now, it lights a fire and makes me feel like my team got screwed.

Gaurantee anyone that would have had that happen to their team would feel the same way

IIRC, Williams was slated to become the Redskins HC after Gibbs retired (again).
But, after Gibbs was gone, Williams was fired.
I wonder if Dan Snyder found out about these bounties, and let Williams go?

Stealing plays versus ending someone’s career is not the same nor should be any comparison. Spy gate is an old issue that was resolved by the league. No one has been injured physically from some one stealing their plays.
