Here’s what I think will happen now:

Red Bryant will be given the franchise tag. Yes, it’s very expensive to sign a DE to a franchise tag deal, and it will tie up a lot of cap space until the long-term deal is made.

David Hawthorne will be allowed to test the waters of free agency. He is a good player, but more replaceable than Bryant at this point. The team can move KJ Wright to the middle, or give consideration to drafting Luke Kechley (sp?) of Boston College, and leaving Wright outside.

If Bryant is allowed to walk, expect them to give strong consideration to Devon Still, DE, Penn State.

The whole Seattle fans “beast mode” thing is kind of cute. When I went to a Skins game there the fans were into it, respectful and nice. However, it was kind of like watching a game with a bunch of 10 year olds who have not yet developed a real passion for the game but try to mimic what they see there parents do. Nothing against the Seattle fan but they need a little maturation before they can be considered true fans. They should probably look to the Seattle Sounders for inspiration (or the Portland Timbers).

Loving the ‘one dimensional’ tag people giving Lynch on here. Thing is, I don’t remember too many teams being able to cope with that one dimension at all last season.

One dimensional or not, Lynch is an elite back in. still underrated. and youre wrong about the seahawks having a lot of weaknesses. they have very good players on both sides of the field (exept at qb). theyre defense is very good and once they get it going as a team, theyre defense will turn it up a notch as well. im a niners fan so i get to watch the hawks twice a year and they remind me a lot of my team. hawks def heading down the right track. look out for them next year.

None of those three make sense for the franchise tag. Hawthorne isn’t a great fit in Seattle so why spend $8.8 mil on him? He’s not worth that, nor is Bryant worth over $10 mil. As four Hauschka…he’s a RFA. Give him a 1st or a 3rd round tender offer and he’s not going anywhere and is a lot cheaper.

Only one that makes sense to tag is Carlson…he’s the top FA TE at this point and will demand a fair amount on the open market.

TJack has one year left on his contract. I wouldn’t consider that a death knell to the future of the team. He was stop gap, so we could release Hass and start the rebuilding. Compared to other teams with our record 3 years ago, Pete and JS have done an outstanding job blowing out the garbage that our last GM left us with and trying to improve from the trenches out.

T-Joke? Not hardly. He won 50% of the games he started last year, without an off-season and a shortened training camp, but he’s not the QB of the future, and that we can pretty much all agree to that.

This was a good signing… The annual average is $7.75M (right at the Franchise Tag amount for ’12). Hopefully we continue to build an offense that can keep him productive/healthy. One great move that will get the dominoes to fall in our favor.

Re-sign Big Red and sign mario Williams in FA. Can’t wait for the draft. Let’s take a QB!!!

6 years to the night signed Alexander to exactly double; both term and $.
Obviously different circumstances and player, but all in all a reasonble contract for an effective hard working player that changes games, so long as they get some other things done.

1. Re-sign Lynch – done
2. Find change of pace back
3. Upgrade OLine
4. Sign/take a chance on Manning with all that cap space
5. Profit!

Good for Lynch. He was pretty much the top running back in the league at the end of the year. It’s good that he finally has a decent line up front to help block.

The NFC West was not the worst division in football last year. Marshawn Lynch will play another four years at a high level. This contract was a good move for Seattle. They still have enough to sign Mario Williams or Matt Flynn. They will not take Tannehill with their first pick even if he is available.

They will contend for the playoffs next year and be ready for a deep run one year later. The key will be to find that QB.

If we didn’t sign him, we would have used the tag on him and maybe lost Bryant. I hope his effort remains the same. We need to draft a pass rusher in the first round and not reach for a QB. Next year will be a better draft for QBs. If we get our 3 starting o linemen back and get a pass rush we should be better.

Good move, as Marshawn led the Seahawks to an improbable playoff run two years ago. He played well this past season and definitely earned this contract. In the draft, with the 12th pick, I expect the Seahawks to target Ryan Tannehill, should he be available. With that pick and with other picks, I like Seattle to be contenders for change-of-pace backs such as LaMichael James (Oregon) or Lamar Miller (Miami). Marshawn Lynch would have been a key free agent if he had hit the open market, so a good job by the Seahawks to retain him with a solid contract.
