The Steelers have been making news this offseason because of the way they’ve been paring the roster to save themselves some money under the salary cap.

They are also working on ways to juice up the amount of money coming into the coffers. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the team has sent season ticket holders letters informing them that they will be raising ticket prices this year. The newspaper doesn’t have details about the size of the increases, but, in the letter, the Steelers write that the increases are necessary so that the team can “meet the challenges of remaining competitive in the National Football League.”

It’s the fifth time in the last eight years that the Steelers have raised ticket prices. Oddly, the three times the team has went without increases are the three times when they have been coming off of appearances in the Super Bowl. That restraint fits with what people from other teams have told PFT through the years about the Steelers charging less than they could likely get without ruffling too many feathers in Pittsburgh.

The Broncos, Lions and Packers are some of the other teams that have announced price increases for the 2012 season.
