Cardinals not interested in free agent Hines Ward

Hines Ward AP

Arizona could be viewed as a logical landing spot for free agent receiver Hines Ward because the Cardinals’ coaching staff has a history with Ward from their time together in Pittsburgh. The Cards could also use a slot receiver, as Early Doucet is destined for free agency.

According to Mike Jurecki of XTRA 910 in Phoenix, however, Ward likely won’t be landing in Arizona. Jurecki is “hearing” the Cardinals have no interest in Ward.

Going on age 36, Ward may have to wait awhile to generate any interest on the open market. The top young receivers figure to be signed first.

The last play of his career will be seen this summer in the Dark Knight Rises.

Time to work out the kinks in your golf swing, Hines.

Not really sure who would gie Ward a roster spot since doesnt play speccial teams at all… I hope he will catch on somewhere, just cant think of where as a 4th or 5th and no special teams

The Cards need every dime of the cap to sign Peyton

NOBODY outside the “Dancing with the Stars” casting agents is interested in Hines Ward. He is done. He was a decent possession receiver who had a knack for run blocking and taking cheap shots at unsuspecting defensive players. Now he is a broken down shell who can’t even get off the line of scrimmage. The Steelers only kept him around last season out of respect. This year, they couldn’t afford the dead roster spot so they cut him.

You had a nice career Hines but now it is time to go become another talking head on a pre-game show. Getting a few more catches or TDs isn’t getting you any closer to the Hall of Fame. If you want to go there, you’ll need to by a ticket like everyone else.

Hines has already gone Hollywood. His playing days are over.

I hear the Allen Wranglers could use a receiver for away games.

Like a young girl growing old, trying to make herself a bride.

    Sad to see.

Injuries will happen. Thats who’s gonna pick him up

I’m not understanding this. No explosiveness, speed, or seperation ability. Teams should be lining up for this guy.

“I hope he will catch on somewhere”

Why? He’s no longer dishing out the hits, now he just absorbs them at an alarming rate. For his own good, teams need to turn him away. I’d rather not see a punch drunk Hines Ward being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Only way Hines plays this season is an injury of a WR during the season.

  12. citizenstrange says: Mar 5, 2012 1:51 PM

He may have to wait for some training camp injuries to happen before any team wants to sign him.

If he has to play I would definitely like it to be with a NFC team.

Maybe the Bears or the 49ers where he could play his last couple of years in a great, fun city and really enjoy his new surroundings.

The Steelers, the Cardinals, and 30 other NFL teams.

He should just sign a one day contract before the season with the Steelers and retire as one, no one else has any use for him. He’s got nothing left to prove anyway: 2 rings, SB MVP, 1,000 career catches. Don’t like Hines at all, but he might as well go out with the accolades he already has instead of having another year like he did last year. Go enjoy the next part of your life and be with your family while you can still live a healthy life.

Hines you were GREAT! Retire as the Champion you are!

DON’T WORRY HINES SOUNDS LIKE THE CARDINALS ARE STILL BITTER ABOUT YOU BEING THE MVP THAT WHIPPED THERE BUTTS IN THE SUPERBOWL! I KNOW YOU STILL HAVE IT THOUGH, AND YOU’VE GONE BACK TO THE SB AND YOU WON ANOTHER AND LOST THE LAST WON, THEY’RE JUST HATERS

  17. derfshambeaux says: Mar 5, 2012 2:20 PM

Can you imagine…Hines Ward…Terrell Owens…Allen Wranglers. Greatest washed up receiving corp in the history of IFL. Add Randy Moss, Jeff George and Tiki Barber to the mix and the state of Texas will have the Triplets back.

  18. wtf2812 says: Mar 5, 2012 2:24 PM

I don’t know if Ward will catch on with another team. I say that because if the Steelers felt he had anything left in the tank, they would have kept him … even for the minimum. They don’t let players who still have a lot left to walk (other than Rod Woodson).

However, some of you seem to think he was just anaverage receiver who was a cheap shot artist. That is hilarious. He was a multi-year All-Pro, a Super Bowl MVP and has 1,000 catches for his career. All that adds up to the Hall of Fame. Sorry haters, he will be in the HOF and YOU will have to buy the ticket to see him there. Trust me.

Yea dude—1000th catches (8th most in NFL history)….2 super bowl rings–3 appearances—1 super bowl mvp—4 time pro bowl player…
All on a team that was run-first for the first 75% of his career. Nice career huh?

I for one would like to see Hines stay for the Veteran Minumum. I dont think the Rooneys want to see him riding the bench.

I hope nobody does pick him up. Then he can go out the way he is supposed to a Steeler Legend.

  21. quittsburghstoolers says: Mar 6, 2012 7:56 AM

    Arizona isn’t interested? Wow!

I guess that means their bench doesn’t need warming…

HE HAS BEEN WASHED UP FOR A WHILE NOW
