Getty ImagesThe Rams have plenty of cap room. But they don’t have any looming free agents on whom they intend to devote a large chunk of it in 2012.
G.M. Les Snead told PFT Live that the Rams definitely won’t be using the franchise tag.
That means receiver Brandon Lloyd will hit the open market, unless the two sides work out a deal between now and March 13.
Other free agents include running backs Cadillac Williams and Jerious Norwood, guard Jacob Bell, and quarterbacks A.J. Feeley and Kellen Clemens.

Some pretty huge names on that list. Are they SURE they don’t wanna use the tag? I mean how can they let Kellen Clemens go? Who will play sax at the Rams after parties now?!?!?1 That’s the same Clemens right?
RAMS fan here. I wouldn’t use it either. Except for the mascot, maybe…
I think the first prerequisite for using the franchise tag might be having a good player.
I can’t wait until someone ties this in with the Gregg Williams scandal, all while ignoring that the Rams had no viable candidates to franchise.
Unless you really think Brandon Lloyd is a $10M+ player.
Let’s clean house, no franchise tag, no free agents and “definitely no defensive coordinator”……
frist to say
To stay under the cap keep the tag in your pocket or make a trade for the player any player but the starting QB if he is good.
Considering the team only has about 5-6 players with any talent, of course they aren’t going to use the franchise tag. Brandon Lloyd is a dime a dozen WR who isn’t worth half of what the franchise tag would pay him (over 9 million for this year). It looks like the Rams are finally wising up.
Trade Bradford for a #1 and start over with RGIII. Put fannies back in the seats with something to excitedly look forward to.
Isn’t Snead the dude who traded the Falcons whole draft away for a no.2 WR??
