APAt a time when the Bayou Bounty Bureau has been consuming so much attention, it’s nice to divert some e-ink that would be devoted to players hurting others for money and directing it to players helping others, for free.
A delegation of five players (four current, one former) are spending the week in the Middle East, visiting with troops as part of the USO program.
And so Panthers punter Jason Baker, Browns center Alex Mack, Chargers linebacker Takeo Spikes (pictured), Texans tackle Eric Winston, and former NFL linebacker Dhani Jones will continue an annual tradition that began back in 1996.
Congrats to the league for continuing to find ways to make the lives of our troops a little brighter, and kudos to Baker, Mack, Spikes, Winston, and Jones for giving up their own free time to make the trip.

good stuff fellas
Wish some more popular guys would do it too. No offense to the guys going, but throw in a big name or two and that would be awesome.
I’m proud that a Texans player is on that list!
Dhani Jones and a punter? Ouch.
Big names? I see two “Top 5″ at their position linemen and two linebackers that, albeit past their prime, have had pretty good careers. I will admit I have no idea who the punter is.
Would you go all the way for the USO?

It would be nice to see players like Ben Roethlisberger, Ray Lewis, Pacman Jones use their 2nd chances to make millions of dollars give back to the military who are potentially dying to give them the freedom to achieve that second chance
Big names DO participate…. I know Jared Allen went last year, and I believe LArry Fitzgerald has gone also.
well since there’s an incredible amount of North Carolina boys defending your country right now, I’m pretty sure many of them know who Jason Baker is.
Thanks again guys, All of you.
The really bad thing…besides an ex-player showing up is the fact that the NFL sent a soon to be ex-punter along with them! Double Ouch!!!
