Jets reportedly interested in free agent Ronnie Brown

Ronnie Brown Pic

Free agent tailback Ronnie Brown is running out of gas at age 30, but he can still pass protect and catch passes at a respectable level. Multiple sources tell ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini that the Jets have interest in Brown.

Brown knows new Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano’s system from their time together in Miami, and would be a natural replacement for free agent LaDainian Tomlinson. Tomlinson was the Jets’ third-down back last season, but isn’t expected back.

The Jets need a third-down specialist because starter Shonn Greene struggles mightily in the receiving game. In terms of playing time, New York would seem to be one of Brown’s best possible landing spots.

Hopefully he brings his patented run / pass option at the 1 yard line like he had against the 49ers last year while on the Eagles..That didn’t help destroy the season or wasn’t the impetus for an improbable 49ers comeback from 20 points down in the 2nd half . I think Kyle Devan got launched into the backfield like a 130 pound schoolgirl and got cut after the game and didn’t resurface on an NFL roster. Gold Standard.Siiigggghhhhh….

man phillymike, what an absolute classic play that was. I just rewatched it. It’s not even like it was some gadget play, he just decided he should probably attempt a forward pass as he was getting tackled at the 2 yard line. Fantastic.

He is beat up, mangled and every bit of his spirit has been drained from his soul. I like Brown, unfortunatly he is a 30 year old back in a 38 year old backs body.

    Good luck though

Maybe the Jets should keep LT and get rid of Shonn Greene. Seems like Greene has gone downhill the last year. If he is no good in the passing game either, what good are his 2 yard runs on 1st and 2nd down ?

This guy is perfect for the jets because both the jets and ronni brown cost the eagles at a chance at the playoffs lol if only the jets could beat the giants and if only ronni brown wasn’t a dumby

Thanks for reminding me. What a gong show. Time to get out the Gang Green D game videos from the 90’s and relive the glory days and probably drink to excess. The life of a long suffering Eagles fan.

I’d say that Shonn Greene just struggles mightily all-around

Hey back off the Jets, besides the coaches tripping people – and our coaches big mouth, we run a sort of a clean ship J-E-T-S

LT is still beter than both Greene and Brown.
he just needs a few more touches a game. Greene will never be better than what he already is..

So Joe McKnight isn’t ready to step in as a 3rd down back, and the solution would be Ronnie Brown. Seems like a stretch at this stage of his career, and if it happens…. good luck Jets fans.

I bet Dolphins fans will be surprised to learn that Sparano has a system.

Just chalk it up to another glaring mistake by the Jets’ front office. That means you Mr. T (the worst GM in the NFL).
