ALL QB’s in the NFL can throw the ball deep, only those with strong arms can throw the ball deep on the money though.

Samari Rolle career ended with basically the same injury as PM said it best on the bay area radio scene. One big hit on Peyton could end his career.

Smart teams will stay away. Desperate teams aka dumb ones will open the check book..

Did you listen to the interview? you are trying to make a story out of nothing. Baalke said a bunch of polite but non-answers to anything. “No we haven’t brought Manning in or had an internal discussions” (aka Manning’s under contract and I’m not going to tell you anything about our internal conversations.) “Do you think he can play?” “You know, that’s really for the doctors to decide.” “What about Randy Moss?” “Everything’s in play. I mean, we’re going to take a look at all our options.” If you listen to the interview and Baalke’s answers, he’s just (smartly) unwilling to show his hand. His answers in terms of indicating anything are meaningless.

We 49er fans are one tier-1 QB and 1-2 good WRs from a SB. Why WOULDN’T we look at PM? Screw A-Smith! Harbaugh said the starting QB position for next season isn’t locked. So what happens if in the offseason Kaepernick blows Smith out of the water now that he’s got a full offseason and a playbook memorized? Then all this talk of consistency with Smith at the helm gets blown out of the water right?

So if that would be the case, why is it any different with Manning? Because of money? We’ve got that. Because of his health? Sign him to a one year deal and you still have Smith (bcuz no one else in the league will want him). Because Manning will want to run the offense his way? That’s possibly something where both sides could meet half way. At least TALK to the man!

We have no shot at Andrew Luck or RG3 (Unless Luck pulls out of the draft and decides to stay in the Bay and play for his old coach) and the other FA QBs are just as marginal as Smith. Unless Brady or Eli become FAs before the end of their careers there’s no QB in the league right now who’s as good as Peyton that will be going to a new team in the near future. If we don’t at least CALL Peyton and see what he would want now that he can talk to other teams then I want the 49er front office fired!

Everyone takes it as a surprise that the 49ers aren’t looking at Peyton Manning. We have a quarterback in place and the 49ers are not going to use a big portion of their money on Manning. I think most people have this whole situation in reverse. I think the best fit for Manning is in SF because the 49ers are one piece away from the Superbowl. They need a receiver and unless the 49ers want a bargain at WR, or it is a last resort, the 49ers won’t get Randy Moss. He doesn’t block, he is lazy, and if the 49ers aren’t going to look at Terrell Owens last year then why look at Moss? Owens is 10 times better a WR than Moss will ever be. The 49ers are going after Vincent Jackson. Harabaugh has already said that he wants a “big bodied” WR for Alex Smith to throw the football to and take away all the double teams Crabtree faces game in and game out.

No one has a clue where Peyton his going, he hasnt talked to any team yet. He has and will continue to go through this process with class. Hope where he goes makes him happy.

Way, way WAY too many people assuming Manning is healthy.

So the 49ers bring in Manning, who will basically take over the offense, gets hurt in Week 2, then the Niners offense spends the rest of the season re-adjusting offense.

But the real problem is the health factor. Whoever signs him is gambling with significant chips on the table.

Not the 49ers style, at all.

Of course the 49ers are going to say they haven’t considered Manning; he was under contract with the Colts. Saying they were making Peyton part of their plans at QB would be tampering.

49ers have one thing Peyton has never had on a consistent basis…TOP TIER DEFENSE!!!!

Here is a look at the weakest division in the NFC to say the least and their projected starting QB.

Division titles lead to conference championships and we all know those lead to Super Bowls.

Seattle/Jackson
Arizona/ Kolb
Rams/ Bradford

All this is fun, isn’t it. Talking and exploring all sorts of scenarios and what-iffing. But take the real side for a moment. Baalkes measured approach last off season, and the careful, close-to-the-vest manner Coach parceled out his offense was due to a number of reasons: newness to each other (coaches and players), a time crunch installing offense, on and on. But in that process, everybody noted there was an excellent nucleus to build on. And that’s what Baalke and Coach are doing and will continue to do. A shot or a gamble every once in a while that’s not to expensive, and one that fits in to the “new” Niner mindset can be expected. But slow and steady (even during games) is about all you’re gonna get. Peyton Manning is “right now” “Instant Gratification.” That is not what this version of Niners is about.

If 9ers got Peyton, they’d be much better off with Reggie Wayne than Randy Moss, as a free agent receiver.

And… given that they are in talks with their current starting QB that got them to the NFC title game last year, of COURSE they are going to say that they are “not interested” in Manning, regardless of their true intentions.

As a Pats fan, I’ve learned long ago not to put any weight whatsoever in public statements (of which there are usually none) prior to trades / deals / drafts, or even games!

Kurt Warner did have a great run at it in Arizona.

I’m a Niner fan and have been an Alex fan since before his bandwagon grew exponentially. Alex is a serviceable starting QB whose limited mistakes were a giant reason as to why the Niners played as well as they did. Alex is solid, but Peyton is arguably the best to ever play the position. But the truth is the Niners should take a hard look at Peyton, just as about 28 other franchises should.

How often does a guy who might be the best to ever play his position become available?

This would be great in so many ways. People need to learn how to think outside the box. They are thin at WR but they have a #2 on the rooster and a great TE in Davis.
Sign Peyton and he brings (1WR) Wayne and/or Moss!! If Manning and Wayne join the AFC WEST the 49ers dominate a sub par division for the next 4 years to say the least.

49ers have a great defense and special teams and would be in position to win multiple championships with at least 1 Superbowl ring!

A “run-first” team is EXACTLY what PM needs at this stage of his career. A run game will keep the defense honest and keep PM upright. On the flip side, SF’s already good running game would flourish with PM at QB. Poor Frank Gore wouldn’t have to consistently run against 9 in the box. PM to SF is a perfect fit. However, York’s ego is too tied to that poor excuse of a QB, Alex Smith to make a push for PM. Sad really.

First of all 9er fans, were not really as good as you think and write here! Don’t take last years results as something that can happen every year because many teams have gone that route and been greatly disappointed. There are many reasons we didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, and you can say that we were a fumble or two away from the Super Bowl, but in reality the offense sucked, what was it 1 for 13 in 3rd down situations? The Niners won many games by a fumble or two and that may not happen this year. Everybody now knows how to stop the 49ers, were not going to sneak up on people like we did last year. We still need a QB. If we think that Alex Smith is the answer then our hearts will be broken again this year. Every Superbowl 49er team had a great QB. We need Peyton Manning and not Randy Moss. Randy Moss will not stop a pass rush or make pick apart a defense.

49ers should sogn Peyton and then give Mike Wallace an offer with an enormous 1st year cap hit that Pittsburgh can’t match. Those two moves would push them over the edge. As long as Harbaugh is ok coaching the guy he was let go for 14 years ago.
