APNo matter how much they say publicly that Mark Sanchez is their man, the New York Jets are wasting no time in at least exploring the possibility of dumping their man in favor of Peyton Manning.
On the same afternoon that the Colts formally announced they were releasing Manning, the Jets inquired about Peyton Manning’s interest in playing for them, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.
Talk of Manning to the Jets has been simmering since the end of the regular season, when Sanchez struggled down the stretch and the Jets missed the playoffs, and several Jets players provided anonymous quotes to reporters saying they lacked confidence in Sanchez’s ability to lead the team.
The Jets’ brass, led by head coach Rex Ryan, has always said that Sanchez will be the starter going forward. But the Jets haven’t specifically ruled out the possibility of signing Manning, and now that they have the opportunity, they’re exploring it.

LOL so much for the Sanchize.
Both Mannings in New York. MUST SEE FOOTBALL!
How long after Manning chooses somebody else will the Jets suddenly say “We’ve never had any interest in Manning because Mark Sanchez is our guy”?
Over/under on headline: “Source says “___________” team something about Pmann.”
Between now and his signing – 20.
Jets will soon learn that sanchez is in the driver seat. maybe not this year, but for sure next year….he will be a seahawk in 2013
Why play for the Jets when that’s not even the best choice in the division for Peyton? He won’t want to go in to that toxic locker room with a weak offense waiting for him. Miami’s a better team, showed that with Matt Moore at the helm over the Jets.
He’s getting dumped just like his highschool girlfriends. I have Hightower hopes for Sanchez one day he will make a great third string qb he can hold the clipboard when the backup is tired or gets sore lol
He will never play for that loud mouth coach and that infested locker room or a town that thinks they are above the rest of America…Sorry Yets fans!!
“The Jet’s brass, led by head coach Rex Ryan,”
The Jets are by no means led by Rex, Woody Johnson pulls all the financial strings especially things like this with Qb signings.
With an offensive line like a sieve last year, it was tough to throw or run. (like the coach said in Necessary Roughness, you gotta give him three damn seconds to throw the football). You can’t put that all on Sanchez, just like you can’t fix it all by replacing him.
If Wayne Hunter steps it up this year and and they get some more consistency out of Slauson (still new), things will be ok. That and they acquire another quality wide receiver. If Braylon is healthy, he could be a steal.
Point is, A LOT of Jets fans don’t want Peyton, we are sticking with Sanchez. And by a lot, I mean my Jets fan friends, and that’s all that matters.
Sorry Jets fan but it seems like Manning is…
Just
Enjoying
The
Sun….for the next 3 years or so.
Make this happen Ross, sorry sexy Rexy!
Why in God’s name would a classy guy like him want to hook up with a loud mouthed, blowhard like Rex? No chance.
I just can’t see Manning playing for The Mouth of the East, Rex Ryan.
What a joke this franchise is
Sanchez must be feeling great now and if they dont get Manning that first mini camp will be awkward…..JETS suck Thumbs Up,
Screw the JETS. Bring Seattle it’s first Lombardi. Come on, Peyton. I named my offspring after you; you owe me!
Peyton: “No thanks”
Depending on his demands, not sure the Jets will be able to foot the bill…
Mark is really getting the Dirty Sanchez treatment.
Manning does not want to be a part of classless Rex Ryans freak show. Not gonna happen.
He also will not sign in Miami. They don’t have the personnel to overtake the Patriots. He is not going to want to play for a team that can’t win the division and make the playoffs. He has too much pride to be 2nd best in the division to Tom Brady.
Quit dreaming Fins and Jets fans.
Not a chance!
There is no chance of Manning coming here. A 36 yr old QB coming back from seven neck surgeries would have zero interest in playing behind this offensive line. Woody, open your eyes. Tannenbaum sucks and should be fired along with this fat bastard. Didn’t Parcells rave about this guy Tanney? He has set this franchise back with bad contracts and bad draft picks. FML
NO WAY is Manning going to the Jets. It will never happen. That locker room is a grease fire. Ryan has proven that he can’t control it and it has totally gotten away from him.
Stick with Sanchez. He’s not appreciably worse than Brady, Brees, and Eli Manning were through their first three seasons.
Three years is not a fair shot when you’re still only 25.
If he thought his kicker was an idiot running his mouth, wait til he meets Rex.
If Manning was 50 % healthy he’d be 100 % better than Sanchaz. That coming from a Jet fan.
Hope he goes elsewhere. I hate the Jets.
The Benchise.
Not going to happen. Jets are stuck with Dirty Sanchez, and Henne will be joining them soon enough too. Enjoy Miami’s sloppy seconds losers.
he’s going to the Chiefs. They actually can go to the super bowl with him
I can’t believe Peyton would play for Rex Ryan.
He’s not going to play for a loud mouth like that, he’s way to classy.
Who said the Dolphins would be 2nd best in the division also if he comes to Miami??? If he came it would “shake up” the AFC East.
Why would Peyton ever consider going to the Jets?
They are classless, the coach is a loud mouth and then the fact that it’s his little brother’s crosstown rival!
Peyton will never go to the same town as Eli and especially his team’s enemy.
I also don’t think Peyton would want to go to a big Media city like NY to be scrutinized even more than he already is.
Why would he want to play for big mouth Rex. Having a coach like Rex is not Peytons style.
He wouldn’t want to play for a bunch of LOUD MOUTHS!!!!
As a Patriots fan I am enjoying these comments or should I say fantasies about Peyton Manning.
Like it or not jet fans your team is imploding from within AND kept the people with the matches. Too dysfunctional and why stand in lil breo’s light in NY?
But even funnier are the Dolphin fans the bridesmaid’s of the NFL Runaway Brides Always left at the alter which is going to happen AGAIN to that clown Ross who shouldn’t own an NFL franchise.
I don’t see PM in the AFCE
He will never play for the dysfunctional Jets. Too much of a circus for him. And too cold.
Such a united locker room in NY, I’m sure Manning is just foaming at the mouth to play alongside such great teammates as Santonio Holmes.
If this goes down, Jeremy Kerley will be a hall of famer.
Mark Sanchez just wet himself.
IMO there are 2 chances PM ends up a Jet. Slim and None.
Please don’t set yourself up with that dysfunctional franchise. You are way to classy for that franchise.
for all of you saying peyton wouldn’t play for rex, you’re wrong. eli said on the michael kay show that “peyton would have no problem playing for rex.” he then went on to joke that “he can run the offense and rex can run the defense.” i am personally against the jets signing peyton. i think they can win with sanchez (which has already been proven don’t try to fight it) and they have too many other holes to throw all of their cap space at one position. i’m not saying i would be upset if peyton was my qb, but i’d rather see the holes in this team filled than grab a 36 year old to replace a 24 year old taken 5th overall.
Hey ampats……… I’ll be looking forward to your post on PFT that announces the Dolphins signing of Peyton Manning! Typical Pats fan! lol!
Again, Manning has a 50 winning % in the playoffs, has as many INTs as TDs, won 1 SB despite his bad performance in the game, threw the game winning INT in the SB vs the Saints, and hasn’t played well in big games – Tenn. included. He is a 1st ballot HOFer, but he is a bit overrated. He won’t win another SB, most with the Jets
@ ampats….how is the ‘post spygate era’ working out for you?????

So,,,Why would Manning want to go to Miami.
Great ownership??? Ross a clown
Strong front office??? Irelands drafts/aquisitions amongst leagues worst
Great roster”??…very below average
Salary cap $$$ to fill in help???…nope
Great place to live??? Only the weather, miami like a 3rd world country otherwise.
Good sports town???…2nd rate, opposing AFC east teams have more fans in Sunlife than Dolphins do
Winning tradition???…Yes, 40 years ago
The Jets brass are clueless…
Okay, so it looks like we’re working our way toward having 31 PFT news stories about various teams thinking about/considering/asking about/begging for Peyton Manning. You guys should just have one story with all the teams that are interested in one place.
We get it. Teams like free agent Hall of Fame quarterbacks. In other breaking news, pigs like mud.
3 all pro players on offensive line and with the draft choices from sanchez trade to replace hunter beside green, holmes, keller, kerley just to begin… please woody get him
Don’t forget that an underdog Jets team beat Peyton in the playoffs two consecutive years. Rex’s defense did as good of a job as can be done on Peyton.
One would like that he would seriously consider having that kind of defense on his team.
Manning shaking hands with Sanchez after a second year Sanchez just beat him. LOL

Irelands drafts are actually pretty good if you actually check on them
Good talent on the roster…..well good enough to spank the Jets last game of the season
Salary Cap-There good enough to land manning and wayne
whatever! look, unless you have one of the elite qbs in the league, which NO jet fan thinks Sanchez is, you have to at least make a call. And from what I’ve seen, the Jets have said that all along. They also said the most important thing is the TEAM, and they will do their due diligence.
Personally, I would love to have Payton Manning on the Jets, but I don’t see it happening. I also don’t think it means the jets don’t think Sanchez can do the job.
The Jets offense was a mess last year for a ton of reasons, and Sanchez was one of them, but there’s no reason why they can’t win with him. I think the new direction of the offense will definitely play to his strengths, and I think he will have a BIG year next year.
Hey Sanchez, you can hold Peyton’s jockstrap for him at team meetings.

Really?
Seriously?
A Raiders fan making comments about being contenders to the Super Bowl?
Some people should just not say ANYTHING. LMAO
footballfundamentals says,
hey ampats, how is the post spygate era working out for you?
I’d say pretty well. 4 out of 5 AFC East Championships, 2 AFC Championships and SB appearances.
How is it working out for your team ?????
finman18,
cute name: did you change it from finman 1985 the last time the Dolphins lost the SB?
Inquire all you want, Jets.
No way, no how…..he will never join that circus of a team.
He will be a Cardinal or a Dolphin. Im leaning heavily towards Zona. Reggie and Fitz. That will be sick if Manning can hold up for the season.
here’s a question how do we know what peyton manning REALLY wants??
how can we guess and dream about all these temas he’d fit with!!!
CALL WE CAN DO IS WAIT DAYS OR WEEKS!!!
all i can say is family is always good to be close too the NY Jets have an edge in location and marketing and more endorsements then all the teams we have listed or talked about soo again how do we know what peyton would want???
Manning is going to be one expensive backup to Sanchez… because we all know that Rex Ryan gave his word about Sanchez being the starter as long as he was head coach.
And if Ryan would lie about that, then how are we supposed to believe his guarantees about winning the Super Bowl?

In other words, O-fer in the only game that matters, the Super Bowl.

Playoff winning percentage is a TEAM stat, Pats fan idiot.
The most important QB stat is career postseason QB rating.
Peyton Manning – 88.6
Tom Brady – 86.0
Brady without a above-average defense to win the big game for him is ringless.
Miami, Houston or AZ. He’s not going to the jets. He can find success in all 3 places and they’re warm or dome.
Hate the Jets and find it hilarious that they are looking for another qb and have been. Henne would even start over dirty Sanchez.

Stick with Sanchez. He’s not appreciably worse than Brady, Brees, and Eli Manning were through their first three seasons.
**
Sanchez’ first three years:
27-20 W/L – .574%
55-51 TD/INT
55.3% Completion Pct.
.
Brady’s first three years:
20-10 W/L – .666%
46-26 TD/INT
62.7% Completion Pct.
Division Championship
Conference Championship
Super Bowl Championship
Super Bowl MVP
Led NFL in TD passes (T-2002)
Stick with the Brees/Manning comps for the first three years.
@ ampats again…..aren’t you close to your first decade without a championship? The window is starting to close on your hof qb
The funniest part of Manning’s free agency is the total awkwardness it’s causing for so many NFL teams.
Half the teams in the league would love to dump their starters and sign Manning, but most wouldn’t want to admit it publicly, because of their starters’ shaky confidence as it is.
Jets, 49ers, Seahawks, Arizona, just to name a few.
Why do Dolphins fans come to comment on Jets stories? Focus on rooting for your team instead of rooting against another. I could see it coming from Steelers, Giants, Patriots, or packers fans but the Dolphins, really? They havent been relevant for the last decade plus with ZERO playoff wins over that span.
jgava19:
How can you say the Jets are a circus team and then suggest Manning should go to the Dolphins? Arent the Dolphins more of a circus team, and a much less successful one at that. I mean they could boast of their staggering zero playoff wins over the last decade or instead about not having a home game where their own fans outnumber those of their the opponent.
Rex wants to personally see his FOOTWORK
in all seriousness, how bad/good is sanchez? he is so boring to me that i do not even know if he is good according to the “experts”.
Sanchez’s career playoff QB rating :
1. 6 other NFL QB’s >94.3
2. Mark Sanchez 94.3
3. Every other QB in NFL history <94.3
A healthy Peyton would give Rex and the Jets a real shot at the Super Bowl.
vaphinfan:
Can you idenify this good talent you speak of on the Dolphins that Ireland drafted. I am friends with a lot of Dolphins fans and they despise Ireland. In fact, you might be the first to think he does a good job. How is he drafting all this talent but has yet to have even a single playoff win to show for it?
Why would the jets pursue PM when they already have future hall of fame qb mark sanchez and “three yards and a cloud of boredom” offensive coordinator tony soprano?
