Spy-Gate was cheating and the New England Patriots were punished accordingly.

Bounty Gate may very well be a criminal matter. The severity of the punishment should reflect this, the Saints should be forced to return the Lombardy Trophy, as well paying fines, personnel and player suspensions, and losing draft picks.

The Saints weren’t caught cheating in any contest. They were caught much later. Just like the Pats were caught later. So if the Saints lose their title, then the Pats lose all three of theirs.

I speak for myself, idiot. I don’t own any of the teams so I don’t pretend to speak for any of them. The only “holier-than-thou” idiots that I see posting here those from New England, who continue to pretend that Goodell didn’t destroy all of the evidence that existed regarding the taping of many many games by the Patriots, tapes that were used to gain an unfair advantage. Pretending that it was only the first quarter of the one Jets game only shows what lengths idiots like you try to go in order to pretend that your team wasn’t engaging in massive amounts of institutional cheating. And as for being a “hater”, you might want to look in your own backyard, since the original “haters” are the hordes of New England baseball fans that have “hated” on the team that has owned them for most of the last century. That would make fools such as yourself that continually call others “haters” the most hypocritical morons of them all. Congratulations, hater.

That said, the NFL needs to punish the individuals and not the team. The Saints and their fanbase as a whole shouldn’t have to pay for the mistakes of 10 or 20 people.

That’s why losers generally remain losers.

You tell yourselves it’s never your own fault you lost, it’s cause the other guy had an unfair advantage.

Thus, you’re never as good as you think you are, you don’t work to improve enough, and the cycle repeats itself.

The guys in the league I’ve heard question those Super Bowl results never made it back to another Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, the Pats have had a 16-0 season and been back to the Bowl twice, albeit losing in the final minutes.

Payton and Loomis need to be suspended for no less than one year without pay or benefits and fined no less than $250,000 above that for EACH year they ran the bounty program.

The team needs to be fined no less than $1M and Benson also needs to be fined since, although he ordered the bounty to stop, he never followed through to make sure it actually did stop nor did he do anything at all to punish the offenders, effectively giving the message “Do whatever, but I don’t want to hear about it.” Even now, he isn’t doing anything but saying what great guys they are when they should be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Players still with the Saints should be suspended and and fined. Those no longer with the Saints get the choice of the identical penalty of active Saints OR no suspension but triple the fine. That way, the players will be punished and not necessarily their new teams who probably didn’t know they had hired such scumbags.

I would let the Saints keep the same number of draft picks they are entitled but I would would move all of them to the end of the final round.

And if they don’t want to negate the Superbowl — they could still make them ineligible for post season play for, say, the same number of years they had their bounty system. That would send a clearer message around the league than anything else.

One thing is for certain – everyone who gets named is the final reports can kiss off any chance of getting into the Hall of Fame. Ever.

It isn’t so much the whole “getting guys to injure opponents” part that is so bad. The part that really is cheating is that they were providing financial incentives outside what is allowed in the CBA. Then after being confronted about it, went ahead and continued on for two seasons. And using incentives to get guys to break the rules is kind of disgusting.

It will be interesting to see if the Saints can maintain that intense defensive attacking culture without their fun gambling/cheating subculture system. Probably won’t.
