the super bowl run and win will be tainted forever, just like baseball hall of fame inductees and HGH, ignoring it does not make it go away. tainted with an aesterisk for life, thats how you wanna be remebered, eh? cheating is ok, & if you can get by with it and win at all costs without costing them the very prize they won because of it. the NFL & any persons in the saints orgainization involved in it make me wanna puke. tainted for life, enjoy the trophy with a big questionmark next to it. The best of the best never have a question mairk, if this organization does not have it stripped from them, they should show nards and voluntarily rescind it, if not, marred cheaters of history.

I am a die hard saints fan and will always be and I see that a bounty is wrong only because it encourages injury, but do not call it cheating. Is it now considered cheating for a player to go out and play with extreme intensity? There is no way our superbowl will be given back. We did not cheat. Cheating is when given an unfair advantage in order to beat another team. If someone can explain to me how wanting to crush another teams quarterback, like grampa Favre,is cheating then go ahead. If bounties are cheating then so should be contract incentives. If a player makes extra money for X amount of ints, tackles, sacks, etc. then that should be cheating as well according to all of your logic. Every defensive player in the game is trying to hurt the opposing team on Sunday and you all know it, but it is people like you all that have made the game soft. Just because a player competes hard on Sunday is not cheating. If you want to look into a bounty check James Harrison, why does he continue to hurt people? WHODAT!!!

dvd man. I'm sorry my apology to Saints fans did not meet your standards. All I can say is that it was genuine. As for questioning my manhood, a real man would do that face-to-face.
My NFL friends some of you are really missing a significant difference between Spy-Gate and Bounty-Gate.

Spy-Gate was cheating and the New England Patriots were punished accordingly.

Bounty Gate may very well be a criminal matter. The severity of the punishment should reflect this, the Saints should be forced to return the Lombardy Trophy, as well paying fines, personnel and player suspensions, and losing draft picks.

The Saints weren't caught cheating in any contest. They were caught much later. Just like the Pats were caught later. So if the Saints lose their title, then the Pats lose all three of theirs.

Sounds fair to me.

That was not my intention.

This isn't an apology. You said, sorry "if" I offended you - like it was dvd's problem for being offended. A stand up apology goes like this, "I'm sorry for what I said. I was wrong. I shouldn't have done it. I apologize to you". No if's, and's, or but's.
You do realize that it has been our historically dominating offense that has gotten us this far over the last six years, and not our “cheating” D, right? In fact, it has been one of the worst in the league over that span.

Drew Brees (who has nothing to do with this) is the reason we are so good.

your historically dominating offense still is tainted by a historically cheating defense. No way that you can prove you would have won cause your defense cheated. You could own every offensive record in the history of the NFL, your DC and litlle nixon coach knew, and were cheaters. Sorry, still the truth.

Saints SB = cheaters

Assumeing every team does it = assumed

Vilma offered 10G to take a colleague off in a stretcher = proof, it is on record.

Hate the truth all you want, Pats stole signals, never intended to hurt fellow football players. The Saints as a orginazation, did want to hurt colleges in their proffession. It is why this is going on.

I personally hate both teams, but the Saints are cheaters and won their SB by cheating. Sorry that I feel that teams should win by being better.

Lastly, riddle me this, why is Mr Williams doing the exact same job, no promotion, with a team, that has very little chance of making the SB. Could it be that the Saints knew that cheating was a one trick pony?

Gregg Williams – Suspended for life
Sean Payton – Fine + 1 year suspension
Saints Organization – $1,500,000 fine, loss of SuperBowl, and forfeiting 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks this year, along with 1st round picks in 2013, and 2014.

__
No way that they should be punished any worse than the punishment that the Pats got in 2007 for cheating.

85% of PFT posters DISAGREE with this tool.
Over 400 People!
Proves beyond a doubt his childish obsession and extreme negative bias toward all things NE.
Essentially, negating anything he has to say about the PATs and NE, as he possesses ZERO OBJECTIVITY on the matter of the NE Patriots.
Sounds a lot more like a scorned woman.
The numbers don't lie, unlike him.

Couple that with his incessant schoolyard name calling, insulting everyone and anyone that has a different point of view than his, and he is the mental equivalent of a 4th grader, to wit, a Mental Midget.
Nothing to see here, carry on...

“bozo for all”. You are a known hater who has found a way to weave “Belicheat” and the Spygate episode into EVERY post on Pro Football Talk. Aside from the severe penalty that was handed out by the Commissioner of the NFL for videotaping less than one-quarter of the first game against the New York Jets, I have CHALLENGED you to present evidence to the affect that they were guilty of anything else. They did something against the rules, were caught and paid the penalty. As far as the league is concerned, Spygate is over. But holier than thous such as yourself refused to let something that happened nearly five years ago go. THAT’S what I was referring to in my empathy for Saints fans. Any success the Saints have will not be tainted according to “bozo the clown” and others. Somehow they will be guilty of cheating in every victory they have achieved on the field. Thanks for proving my point “bozo.”.
And, by the way, you don’t know me and CERTAINLY do not speak for me. Thank God for that! By the way who DO you speak for. Another revelation you refuse to divulge. Is that so you can attack everyone else, without retribution? Or is your team in the AFC East and you hide your envy by professing hatred?

__
I speak for myself, idiot. I don't own any of the teams so I don't pretend to speak for any of them. The only "holier-than-thou" idiots that I see posting here those from New England, who continue to pretend that Goodell didn't destroy all of the evidence that existed regarding the taping of many many games by the Patriots, tapes that were used to gain an unfair advantage. Pretending that it was only the first quarter of the one Jets game only shows what lengths idiots like you try to go in order to pretend that your team wasn't engaging in massive amounts of institutional cheating. And as for being a "hater", you might want to look in your own backyard, since the original "haters" are the hordes of New England baseball fans that have "hated" on the team that has owned them for most of the last century. That would make fools such as yourself that continually call others "haters" the most hypocritical morons of them all. Congratulations, hater.

As a Vikings fan, even I believe taking away the Super Bowl victory is simply stupid. I may think the refs called the game NFC Championship poorly, but every team gets bad calls. It is part of the game and will be unless they stop and review every single play for every possible penalty or inch of yardage. The Saints won. It's over.

That said, the NFL needs to punish the individuals and not the team. The Saints and their fanbase as a whole shouldn't have to pay for the mistakes of 10 or 20 people.

That's why losers generally remain losers.

You tell yourselves it's never your own fault you lost, it's cause the other guy had an unfair advantage.

Thus, you're never as good as you think you are, you don't work to improve enough, and the cycle repeats itself.

The guys in the league I've heard question those Super Bowl results never made it back to another Super Bowl.

This makes it sound like there is no chance of Williams getting Banned for Life - which he should since he proved by committing these same offenses with 4 different teams over many years and even after being made aware of an investigation and orders to cease immediately - that his actions weren't 'a mistake' or 'poor judgement' or 'in the heat of the moment' but deliberate and standard operating procedure for him. He lied to investigators repeatedly, too. He's needs to be out of the game forever.

Payton and Loomis need to be suspended for no less than one year without pay or benefits and fined no less than $250,000 above that for EACH year they ran the bounty program.

The team needs to be fined no less than $1M and Benson also needs to be fined since, although he ordered the bounty to stop, he never followed through to make sure it actually did stop nor did he do anything at all to punish the offenders, effectively giving the message "Do whatever, but I don't want to hear about it." Even now, he isn't doing anything but saying what great guys they are when they should be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Players still with the Saints should be suspended and and fined. Those no longer with the Saints get the choice of the identical penalty of active Saints OR no suspension but triple the fine. That way, the players will be punished and not necessarily their new teams who probably didn't know they had hired such scumbags.

I would let the Saints keep the same number of draft picks they are entitled but I would would move all of them to the end of the final round.

And if they don't want to negate the Superbowl -- they could still make them ineligible for post season play for, say, the same number of years they had their bounty system. That would send a clearer message around the league than anything else.

One thing is for certain - everyone who gets named is the final reports can kiss off any chance of getting into the Hall of Fame. Ever.

It still taints the win, knowing in part how they ran their team and achieved success. It was cheating.

It isn't so much the whole "getting guys to injure opponents" part that is so bad. The part that really is cheating is that they were providing financial incentives outside what is allowed in the CBA. Then after being confronted about it, went ahead and continued on for two seasons. And using incentives to get guys to break the rules is kind of disgusting.

It will be interesting to see if the Saints can maintain that intense defensive attacking culture without their fun gambling/cheating subculture system. Probably won't.

New Orleans Taints, cause they sure ain't saints.

So, did we ever find out how many players the Saints hurt during the so called bounty days? I bet it's still less than the players James Harrison hurt during the same span. Why take the Saints SB away, they'd have to do the same to the Steelers.

About the only thing left that hasn't been suggested is to try Williams and Loomis at The Hague for crimes against humanity. The race to see who could be the most outraged and demand the harshest penalties for this has become beyond ridiculous.

For those of us old enough to remember, look what happened to SMU when the NCCA dropped the hammer on them back in 1985. ( yes I know we are comparing apples to oranges.) SMU’s football program, to this day has not recovered. Have to wonder what is going to happen to the Saints program. If everything that has reported is true, and the Feds get involved, I would have to think that Saints are about to suffer a nuclear winter. I think when all is said and done, the only way New Orleans sees a Super Bowl is when the city gets to host one.

I say fine the owner about 5 million only because he was warned to stop the bounty system once before and he did nothing. Fine Peyton a million and suspend him 4 games for the same reasons. He knew about the bounties and did nothing and also because he was the one who took a 250,000 dollar salary cut to bring in Williams. Ban Williams fromthe league for life if the stories of a bounty program on his other teams are true. Take away 1st and 2nd round picks in 2013 because a 1st round pick would be a 32nd pick and would not mean much and take away their 1st round pick in 2014. Also if reports that the program included 22 players then suspend 11 of them the first 4 games of 2013 and 11 of them the final 4 games.
Another post said the leagues penalties did not hurt the Pats since they only missed the playoffs one season. This penalty would force the Saints to play the season with 11 practice squad players for the first and last 4 games almost insuring a losing season. Then without a first or second round pick in the following years draft they would not be able to improve much. This would leave them about a .500 team the following season then no 1st round pick the next draft. This punishment would almost certainly keep the Saints from being competitive for 2 or 3 years. On top of all of that. If any of the 22 players involved like Hargrove have since moved on, their replacement shall be suspended for 4 games.
I bet there would never be a hind of a paid bounty system in the NFL ever again if this were the penalty for the Saints.
The final suspensions from the NFC Championship game should go to the officiating crew. The late hits on Favre, the low hit on Favre. Late or not league rules say you cannot hit a QB below the knee unless blocked into him. The phantom pass interference on Leber. On the play where Favre was hit low the vikings were on the saints 35 yard line with the score tied at 28. Favre threw a int on that play. If a penalty woould have been called like it should have been it would have given the vikes the ball on the saints 20. Their kicker is one of the leagues best and it is almost a certainty they would have got a FG. That non call was a game changing play. The phantom PI on Leber was on 3rd or 4th down and kept the saints drive alive. These were not bang bang plays that could have went either way they were obvious blown calls.
