When we reported last month that the Raiders’ 2012 cap commitments exceed $145 million, we also explained that they could create plenty of cap room, quickly.

So far, they have.

Most recently, the Raiders picked some more by cutting cornerback Chris Johnson, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

NFLPA records reveal that Johnson was due to earn a base salary of $3.5 million in 2012, the final year of his contract. Cutting him will clear $3.5 million off the books.

The end result is that the Raiders have now dumped both of their starting cornerbacks from 2011. With Peyton Manning possibly coming to the division, the Raiders will need to get cracking on finding good replacements.
