Raiders save another $2.25 million by cutting Hiram Eugene

The Raiders continue to dump salaries in order to get in compliance with the salary cap.

On Friday, in addition to cutting starting cornerback Chris Johnson, the team also announced that safety Hiram Eugene has been released. Technically, Eugene failed a physical.

His departure clears $2.25 million in salary off the books. Because Eugene was placed on injured reserve in August 2011 after suffering a dislocated hip in the preseason opener, he may be eligible for up to $1 million as injury protection under Title 45 of the new CBA.

Starting in 2016, those payments will count against the salary cap. For now, they don’t.
