The NFL draft is inherently illegal - ALL drafts are inherently illegal. They are held, of course, in order to help the poor teams get better - They are legalized by the Congress.

But they are illegal - If you were a college graduate who held a degree in some ridiculously hard discipline would you not want to be able to decide who you were going to go to work for? Of course you would. Prospective professional athletes don't have that right. 99.99% of the time the potential draftee is helpless - he has no say in where he is going to go to work.

Once upon a time John Elway got away with coercing the team he didn't want to play for to trade the right to draft him (#1 overall) somewhere else, and 8 years ago Eli Manning, with his dad's help, did the same thing. There is NOTHING WRONG with doing that.

It makes no sense for Smith to gratuitously antagonize Peyton. As Acee points out, the Chargers are 5-1 in their last six games against Peyton, generating 15 interceptions and allowing only 11 touchdowns.

I'll give you two reasons why:

#1 - AJ is a prick

#2 - So was Eli, when he threw his predraft hissy fit about the Chargers.

All you charger haters are funny.. It’s not our fault as fans that we live in the best damn city in the US. Summer weather all year compared to a 1 super bowl ring or two?? I’ll take my weather all day son! Not saying I’m not a die hard charger fan cuz trust me I am. It’s just funny how everybody can just talk crap about a city that their local channels play vacation commercials about. Come to SD and see what’s up! We always have and always will have our Chargers back no matter what!!

This is a football blog not the vaction blog
Of course our local channels have commercials about going to SD and why wouldn't they SD pays them to run them. Of course those commericals cost top dollar to be aired in the number one market in the USA.
Funny if you city is so so nice why do you have to pay big bucks to beg people to visit?

If fair weather were what it took to win the Super Bowl then I would guess there would be team in Hawaii and they would be the champions each year.

You can all make fun of Eli Manning call him and his family names but those of us in the NY area just call him Champ X 2

Funny how all the Charger fans that loved the trade for Rivers now are bashing the Mannings.

As for Archie when a reporter shoves a mic in his face and asks something he answers it so what if he is not PC he is protecting his kids no matter how old they get they are still his kids.

What the Mannings did on draft day was simply business a good player who's father spent his life playing for the aints saw his sons future and said no I did that go to NY they will pay you and they have a good owner.

Now on to the Chargers Drew would never throw again (yeah hows that worked out ?)

The trade for Eli probowl players zero players in a super bowl.

Now lets recap forgetting payton Drew 1 SB win Eli 2 SB wins Rivers ZERO SB wins so yes the management in SD are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work your right there with the vikes and egals

lolol. the mannings are the chargers bitches.both peyton and sheli have a combined record of 1-7 against sd over the past 5 years.

id rather have the warrior Philip Rivers over sheli any day

Really you’d rather have Rivers instead of 2 rings?…good thing you have AJ. Also combined record against SD…. SO? you play to win Super Bowls!!!
____________________________
Kind of reminds me how the media tried to talk up the Broncos when they faced the Pats by pointing out they were the one team Brady had a losing record against (kept saying this leading up to the rematch in the playoffs after the Pats smacked the Broncos around in the regular season). Well, that record didn't stop the Pats from beating the Broncos in the regular season and the playoffs...and by a sizable margin in both cases. I don't bring this up to mock the Broncos, but to point out a very simple concept...times change. The Broncos simply didn't have the roster to keep up with the Pats last year. Similarly, the Chargers' roster keeps getting depleted more and more each year, and the attempts to reload it have proven to be less than satisfactory.

Where has the Chargers pass rush gone? The running game is inconsistent at best. The receiving corps, once an embarrassment of riches, is starting to look rather depleted. An aging, beat up Gates is signed to a long term contract, and Jackson looks to be walking out the door because of A.J.'s ego. Name one area of the Chargers' roster that looks like it's even approaching the elite level? Oh, and as for the warrior Phillip Rivers, he didn't look so impressive last year, and he hasn't been able to get the job done when it really mattered. I can think of two games last season just off the top of my head where the Chargers had the ball at the end of the game deep in their opponents territory, and Rivers simply couldn't get the job done. The one game he failed to score from within the 10 yard line, and the other he fumbled the snap and turned the ball over when all the Chargers had to do was hold on to the ball and kick a field goal. You can call that warrior-like all you want. To me that's shooting yourself in the foot.

I don’t bring this up to mock the Broncos, but to point out a very simple concept…times change. The Broncos simply didn’t have the roster to keep up with the Pats last year. Similarly, the Chargers’ roster keeps getting depleted more and more each year, and the attempts to reload it have proven to be less than satisfactory.

Where has the Chargers pass rush gone? The running game is inconsistent at best. The receiving corps, once an embarrassment of riches, is starting to look rather depleted. An aging, beat up Gates is signed to a long term contract, and Jackson looks to be walking out the door because of A.J.’s ego. Name one area of the Chargers’ roster that looks like it’s even approaching the elite level? Oh, and as for the warrior Phillip Rivers, he didn’t look so impressive last year, and he hasn’t been able to get the job done when it really mattered. I can think of two games last season just off the top of my head where the Chargers had the ball at the end of the game deep in their opponents territory, and Rivers simply couldn’t get the job done. The one game he failed to score from within the 10 yard line, and the other he fumbled the snap and turned the ball over when all the Chargers had to do was hold on to the ball and kick a field goal. You can call that warrior-like all you want. To me that’s shooting yourself in the foot.

Cool. You keep the loudmouth punk with pretty stats and no rings, and we'll keep the 2x Super Bowl MVP who doesn't choke when the pressure is on.

You probably love AJ Smith. You guys appear to share a brain.
