Jesse Holley defends Tony Romo as Cowboys’ leader

Holley_Jesse

Although it hasn’t reached a Mark Sanchez-level of hysteria, questions have been raised this offseason of whether Tony Romo is really the leader the Cowboys need in their locker room. One man in the Cowboys’ locker room says Romo is exactly the leader Dallas needs.

Cowboys receiver Jesse Holley was asked on KESN whether the Cowboys ought to be in the Peyton Manning sweepstakes, and he replied that the Cowboys are just fine where they are with Romo.

Tony does a great job at being a leader,” Holley said, via the Dallas Morning News. “Tony is the leader of our team.”

The Cowboys’ official company line is that they can win a Super Bowl with Romo, and Holley agrees with that.

“Tony is a very good quarterback,” Holley said. “We are very happy with him. I’m pretty sure the organization is happy with him. You have to give Peyton a look. It’s protocol. If you’re an owner, you have to do it. The look to me will be very quick. Tony is our guy. This is who we started with and this is who we’ll finish with. Here in Dallas, we’re led by Tony Romo.”

HUH? This statement made zero sense. If he’s your guy, you don’t take a look at Peyton. Did NO, GB, NYG, NE, Philly and the Panthers bring Peyton in? NO. Why? because they believe in their QB. However, this was smooth excellent double talk.

He’s right. Tony Romo is the least of the Cowboy’s problems. Year after year the defense lets this team down, and year after year , Romo takes the blame. I don’t understand the hate towards this guy. I think it’s because either a) Romo gets more a$$ in a month than haters have gotten their whole lives or b) they’re Eagles, Giant’s or Skins fans.

Great PR move, by JJ, or you came up with those lines cause they threaten to cut you if you didn’t. Who r you anyways?

Who the hell is JESSE HOLLEY? And why on Earth is a WAIVER WIRE PICKUP making team spokesman statements? In MARCH?

No wonder that organization is so screwed up. You have Michael Irvin making your personnel decisions.

Oh my god, how many times are we going to have to see this article…Seems like every week there is a similiar article.

Here is the truth, Romo is a great QB who has made some bonehead throws. All QB’s do it. He puts up great numbers every year and has shown time after time he can make plays in the pocket and while on the run. Anyone can say he isn’t a leader, but I have seen him multiple times furious with his team not doing something right, while also seen him on the sidelines talking to people trying to tell them how to do something better.

Has he won a SB? No, but that is FAR from his fault. Does it mean he never will? Certainly not. You fix that Defense and get a couple upgrades at O line then we will see what this team can really do.

  8. packeranddarien says: Mar 11, 2012 9:46 AM

    I stand corrected….he wasn’t a waiver wire pickup.

You would have to be actually signed by a team and WAIVED to be on the WAIVER WIRE. This clown made the team from a friggin game show.

According to Mr Holley TR is a great leader in the Locker Room but is only a very good QB. He’s pretty sure the Organization is happy with him. Based on comments that Jeruh made at the end of the season I think the Boys are happy with TR but would definately like someone great to come their way, an elite QB like EM, according to Jeruh.

Hilarious and so typical for that franchise – support from some reality show winner sure would give me confidence if I was a Cowboys fan.

  11. danimal1027 says: Mar 11, 2012 10:00 AM

If this guy is a team leader then why during the lockout, when lesser qb’s like Ryan Fitzpatrick were hosting teammates in his home and working on football, he was trying to make the PGA tour? Sounds self serving IMO.

  12. andyreidsbossoms says: Mar 11, 2012 10:11 AM

    What a fruit

  13. jerryjonesmustdie83 says: Mar 11, 2012 10:15 AM

danimal1027 Romo was organizing team workouts during the lockout just like the lesser qb’s.

  14. bootguy says: Mar 11, 2012 10:28 AM

Sure he is , Jesse ! That’s exactly why Jerry Jones threw him under the bus ! That’s why the offense went ” conservative ” to keep him from throwing another bone-head pick to protect his ” Fragile Ego ” ! It’s all because he’s such a ” great leader ??? ” and a ” very good QB ??? “

As a fan of the NY Giants, I don’t understand why you would think we hate Tony Romo…..personally, I think he has been very good for us over the years!

  16. billymc75 says: Mar 11, 2012 10:36 AM

Played with a broken lung, punctured lung, was coaching and yelling at players on what routes to run, 30 TDs, 4500yds, 65% rating, like Staubach said he’s the solution not the problem. So tired of hearing this crap every year. Find a new subject when news is down, or maybe the fans should remember Carter, Hutchison, Bledsoe, Testeverde, Stoerner, Leaf! This guy was a FA not first round pick, some of those don’t even make it this far. Tony Romo is an above avg player on a below avg team.

Yes, Dallas. Romo is awesome and deserves an extension.

    Signed,

    The NFC East

    @ezbupe4life,
It was the Cowboys defense that made your down syndrome QB look allpro, not Romo. Let me guess, you became a Giants fan in 2007. Gotta love bandwagoners who don’t know football.

  19. starfan79 says: Mar 11, 2012 11:12 AM

Unless Manning will come in here and play man coverage on victor Cruz or rush the qb and get some sacks Dallas doesn’t need him. Romo should not have to score 30+ points a week cause the defense can’t get a stop.

  20. tonyromoisterrible says: Mar 11, 2012 11:23 AM

Gotta love when someone leans on a reality show winner for a comment. I am guessing Jerrah wasn’t available for comment on this. How many 4th quarter leads did Romo throw away last year? The cowgirls will be bad for years to come with Jerrah shopping the groceries. He makes terrible pick ups in the secondary and squanders (high) draft picks. Expect about 5 wins next year dallass..

  21. mytbradley says: Mar 11, 2012 11:49 AM

People that criticize Romo don’t watch him play the games. Give me 4000+ yds 30 td’s and 10 int every year. Sure he squandered the Lions game 3 inexcusable ints. Remove the Lions game and 7 ints all year. Those are MVP #’s if not for Rodgers abusing everybody. I believe Brady did the same against the bills and Brees had a couple bad games. It happens every year. Have we ever overreacted on any other QB in history?

  22. ceschatz says: Mar 11, 2012 12:01 PM

    @tonyromoisterrible,

Romo blew maybe 1 4th quarter lead all season. The question you should be asking is how many 4th quarter leads the defense blew. You people make yourselves look pathetic when you don’t know football. If you honestly think Romo Is the issue in Dallas then you are obviously as delusional as the jets thinking Sanchez is a good QB.

  23. notdoingwork says: Mar 11, 2012 12:13 PM

Thanks Holley your words hold so much weight. You made one highlight play and the football world had to hear your story:( No one cares what you say! Romo is a stat stuffer no a clutch QB.

  24. drunkenjunk says: Mar 11, 2012 12:37 PM

People are forgetting the 2nd Giants game. He had a first down and then he throws the ball 3 yds past the line of scrimmage. All he had to do was run a couple more yards and first down. Game over, we win the division. He constantly makes mistakes like that. Yes he puts up great numbers and has had some great comebacks but the little mistakes he makes kill us. He doesn’t deserve blame for our garbage line or awful secondary but he just doesn’t have “it”. He will never win a superbowl even if we do fix so many of our glaring needs.

“The Cowboys will win a Super Bowl With Romo”

Man I have been hearing this BS for years!!!! Romo is Over Rated with the rest of the team

    Best team in Texas…….Houston Texans!!!!

  26. stunzeed5 says: Mar 11, 2012 12:42 PM

And what is a “Jesse Holley”?

…..maybe Micheal Irvin can find some more players for the Cowboys from “Dancing with the Stars” or “The Bachelor”?

…..or he can just keep snorting coke, stabbing people with scissors, or pushing off DBs for fraudulent TDs…..

    Who cares?

  27. cowboysfaninsandiego says: Mar 11, 2012 12:45 PM

I’m still mad at this guy for holding the ball in the air instead of getting into the end zone in that SF game……….

  28. ericn42000 says: Mar 11, 2012 12:56 PM

Romo is NOT the problem…. The problem is outside of Ware and Lee, our defence needs a makeover. The other problem is Jason Garrett game management problems, the loss to Detroit and Arizona are great examples! COM ON MAN!!!!

  29. cup0pizza says: Mar 11, 2012 1:58 PM

Romo’s fine. It’s the defense that sucks and has no clue or leadership.

  30. ctom32 says: Mar 11, 2012 2:19 PM

haha I love it! (Jesse Holley got an interview) I like Romo I think he does alot with very little help from the line/running game. But it is what it is and you have to win to get respect. So until that happens the haters and so called fellow cowboy fans will continue to remind us how bad this guy sucks everytime he makes a mistake.

    THAT’S MY QUARTERBACK!!!!

According to your GM & Owner, the ONLY difference between the Giants & the Cowboys was the QB position so with that said, he sees all other parts being equal so where do you think he was placing the cowboys ineptitude? When did I become a fan…..lol……I love it when people question your fandom when you team has success while their team hasn’t. So if I became a fan in 2007, then I guess you became a fan back in 1993.
