Wimbley, Raiders “drama continues”

Denver Broncos v Oakland Raiders Getty Images

In six days, a whopping $17.5 million in payments under Raiders linebacker Kamerion Wimbley’s contract will become fully guaranteed.  The Raiders undoubtedly will cut Wimbley before that happens, unless he agrees to a steep reduction in pay.

So where does it stand?  “The drama continues,” agent Joe Linta told PFT via email on Sunday.

Linta also pointed out something he shared with Jerry McDonald of InsideBayArea.com:  “No outgoing calls — and no incoming calls.”

And so, within six days, Wimbley could be going out of the organization, perhaps permanently.

The Carson Palmer trade will set the Raiders back a solid decade is what they need to be more worried about.

Hers the deal…if the Raiders can sign an equal replacement Tuesday or Wedneday, they will cut Wimbley. If not they will restructure a deal to keep him…..simple not drama.

    No it won’t.

Palmer is a better QB than Jason Campbell and with a full year under his belt and a training camp, and the lack of Al Davis, The Raiders will be fine with Palmer.

Atleast they didn’t trade three 1st rd. picks and a 2nd to get him.

  5. clbrwns says: Mar 11, 2012 8:47 PM

I say he’s coming back to Cleveland. He enjoyed – yes hard to believe – his time in Cleveland and didn’t want to leave. He’ll look very good on the right side of the line next to Ruben and the two young guns.

  7. spinmovr says: Mar 11, 2012 8:48 PM

Stop. Wimbley’s situation really isn’t that big a story for the Raiders. Cutting him or keeping him at a better cap number is not going to have a major impact on our defense this season.

And the Carson Palmer trade will hardly set us back a decade. You’re talking about an organization that started Jamarcus Russell for two seasons. If we can post 8-8 seasons after that disaster, Carson Palmer won’t be a problem.

People act like every draft pick we’ve traded away was a missed Hall of Famer or something. We’ve got a ton of young players to develop as it is. We’ll be fine when it comes to getting new free talent in 2013.

Name one draft pick the Raiders have traded that the pick paned out ?

    The answer is : 0

Look what the Redskins gave to get a QB and watch what all the teams that don’t get Peyton give up to get a QB.

The QB is the main position needed to win in the NFL.

The Raiders gave up a 1st and a 2nd next year watch neither pan out and the Bengals still be garbage.

I like Kam Wimbley, but he looks lost at times . He doesnt have many moves, I think hes undisciplined at times as well. However, I do think DA would get more out of him than Brez ever could. He is not worth his current contract. They have 6 days to get a new deal done, if not hes gone and he’ll underachieve for another team.

This is crazy. You mean to tell me you would rather have a 33 yr old, washed up qb over RG3? What have you been smoking.

  11. anactualnflowner says: Mar 11, 2012 9:06 PM

Can you believe how much damage Al Davis and Hue Jackson did to this organization recently? Way over the cap and almost no draft picks? I’m surprised that anyone even interviewed to take over this mess…

  12. huejackson says: Mar 11, 2012 9:07 PM

Ok first I got to set this idiot who said Palmer will set the Raiders back 10 years…
Palmer one of the top 10 qbs in the NFL, This is a guy who was watching football on sundays to playing in a game the very next week… He will thrive with Saunders and Knapp and Raiders will win the WEST easily this year..
Now on to this jerk Wimbley, Who does this guy think he is? This is a guy that got cut in Cleveland cause he sucked and NOBODY wanted him but like Curry the Raiders gave this guy a chance and now he does not want to help the team win! This is all he is saying by not Restructuring his contract, he is saying “i dont care about winning I care about money”
Notice Palmer, Huff, Curry, and Seymour did not put up this nonsense? Because they are about WINNING

  13. nomoreseasontix says: Mar 11, 2012 9:09 PM

There is zero chance that the $17.5 mil is allowed to become guaranteed.
If Al hadn’t made the error with the 1st and 3rd tender, or whatever it was, it wouldn’t be an issue.
The exclusive franchise tag made Wimbley way over paid, and Reggie will have to get him to take a contract that is more in line with his value or cut him.
The dead money will sting, but not as much as the future over payments would.
    It’s a no brainer…

  14. raider8er says: Mar 11, 2012 9:09 PM

An unprecedented time in Raider Nation.

Actual competence in managing the organization!!!

If a dysfunctional team can go 8-8 in two years with two different head coaches and trail of yellow flags from San Francisco Bay to Buffalo, NY …….. think of what a team with it’s head on straight can produce in Oakland?

    I like it.

  15. huejackson says: Mar 11, 2012 9:10 PM

By the way I would choose Palmer over “RG3′ anyday, I would rather have a proven guy then a un proven Black Qb who 95% of the time fail in the NFL, Yeah they will make some good flashy plays maybe win a game or 2 but they are not winning superbowls as you can see…
Just like Hillis is a white RB, its fun to see but at the end of the day its a Novelty act
    FACTS ARE FACTS

  16. villa41 says: Mar 11, 2012 9:12 PM

Look, let’s get it straight about Wimbley. The guy is a decent situational (i.e., 3rd down or obvious passing plays) player. He’s not a stud against the run and gets shut down on the pass rush by the better tackles in the league. Having said that, if he wants to take a pay cut, then I’m all for havng him back. On the other hand, if he’s looking for more big money, then he can walk and don’t let the door hit him in the you know what on the way out. Let some other team overpay this guy. He’s not a difference maker or game changer. Anyone who actually watches the games knows this.

  17. upby3 says: Mar 11, 2012 9:12 PM

Wimbley’s agent is trying to find a better deal than what the Raiders offered. If Kam doesn’t accept the offer by the 17th he will be cut.

  18. rdrllldubk says: Mar 11, 2012 9:18 PM

Lamarr Houston, Matt Shaughnessy, possibly Jarvis Moss… Doesn’t make sense to pay that for an average player and position of strength. Raiders need a corner, a LB, and some O-line help. Maybe a vet WR, they aren’t far from a solid team. (Wimbley is a DE tho listed as LB)

  19. AlohaMrHand says: Mar 11, 2012 9:20 PM

Nobody is saying that. The Raiders took a lot of heat for the trade. Admitt it or not, Carson is a solid QB. Wash gave pretty much double for an unproven QB. I think RGIII will be a player, but “think” is the key word.

  24. thraiderskin says: Mar 11, 2012 9:26 PM

I think both teams paid way too much for the guy they got/ will get. Both teams got worked on their deals. The Raider’s situation bothers me on an ethical level, I honestly think Brown should be ashamed of taking Oakland to the shed. Palmer, in the state he was, was only worth maybe a 2nd, possibly 1 first round pick. If you really look at the whole situation and timing, you would agree.

I definitely believe Jackson was wrong, so I’m not putting it all on Brown.

  25. curtj5 says: Mar 11, 2012 9:27 PM

The Raiders will have the #1 offense in the AFC West this year with Palmer and a healthy McFadden.

If that means they are set back a decade then I guess that’s ok with me!

  26. lunarpie says: Mar 11, 2012 9:29 PM

Wimbley is not worth anything close to $17 million. The Raiders are doing everything that needs to be done: getting under the cap, cutting overrated players and restructuring the contracts of needed players. AFC West Champs 2012

Oakland already has a young QB with “potential” on the roster in Terrelle Pryor.
He’s just as fast, if not faster, taller and has a rocket arm like RG III.

  30. oklahomaseahawk says: Mar 11, 2012 9:58 PM

How can you guys compare the Palmer trade to the #2 pick one…
Palmers was a worse trade, I know its Raider Nation in here but let’s get real Palmer has no ceiling and is skydiving in skill the Redskins (Who did give up to much) are rowing in the same boat, BAD TRADES HAPPEN. My Hawks traded for Dieon Branch & paid a 1st for him to be the medicals staffs most consistent client, it happens & you move on.

  31. azheat says: Mar 11, 2012 10:01 PM

This is why players holdout. I’m not saying the Raiders should or shouldn’t pay him.

    Hey BIG KAM,
Remember not long ago that there were all these so called football GURUS that were proclaiming that you were not worth the first round pick the Browns used on you? We The RAIDER NATON took you in as a castoff and breathed new life into your quickly fading career. Now here we are at the career crossroads with a financial dilemma. Over the last 2 years you have reaped the benefits of Mr. Al’s generosity. If all you really care about is the finances then please do not let the door hit you where the good LORD split you. If in reality you share the desire to be part if something special then please restructure your contract. and live up to the expectations of a first rounder. We allowed you the opportunity to revive your career. A man is not valued by $ but by the quality of his character, loyalty, and integrity. We would like for you to remain a Raider but if it is all about the Benjamins then feel free to phuchauf.

Way less risk in Palmer. Know what your getting.

Rg3 could be akili smith……..who knows.

Rich Gannon was a no talent ass clown Before signing w raiders. Palmer is more talented w the same work ethic.

    Its all about coaching

  34. ballboy48 says: Mar 11, 2012 10:39 PM

Wimbley will most likely go back to Cleveland! He never wanted to leave the Browns, but Mangini traded him to Oakland! This guy would be a good addition up front with the young talent the Browns have on their DL.

  35. clayton43 says: Mar 11, 2012 10:55 PM

Sorry Raiders nation… but Palmer is NOT a yop 10 QB.. He has had a few decent years but for the most part he has been an average QB and a big disapointment. Watching him play almost every Sunday was sometimes torture as he looked lost many a day and also looked uninspired. I dont think much of Cincy coach at all or organization as a whole, but he did have some talent to work with at the WR and he could never seem to get it done. Now he did play a touch defensive division with Baltimore and Pitt 2 times a year each, but for the most part after so mnay years he just seems like having a couple decent years he has been not so good

  36. duncanthecat says: Mar 11, 2012 11:05 PM

The Oakland fans are again rationalizing for having a lousy team. When they needed to win ONE game they couldn’t. Now they are one step from having a formidable team.

IMO they need to cut 6-8 additional players. Problem is they have no cap and no choices.

  37. lionsplayoffs says: Mar 11, 2012 11:06 PM

Palmer may be a better QB than Campbell, but he’s not THAT much better. People underrate the job Campbell did. They gave up a ton for Palmer.

  38. sirdrinksalot says: Mar 11, 2012 11:17 PM

  39. ron69 says: Mar 11, 2012 11:49 PM

  40. raiderraffeal says: Mar 11, 2012 11:58 PM

Either your ignorance is glaring or your jokes aren’t funny. Shall we look at the percentages of white QBs to black ones throughout league history?

That’s a pretty good indicator alone as to why “they(black qb’s) aren’t winning super bowls” Oh hang on a second, Doug Williams wants to show you his super bowl ring.

Skin color has ZERO to do with it. You can argue style of play in certain cases, with Vick or an early career Randall Cunningham, or a Tim Tebow…wait, huh?

I’m a Browns fan, and I’m glad we didn’t get Griffin, and it had absolutely nothing to do with him being a black quarterback. In fact, I think he’ll be a terrific QB in this league.

I just didn’t want to give up the world for the guy to the detriment of my team’s progress, especially since there will be a draft next year, and the year after, and the year after that.

Bottom line, if you like Palmer over Griffin because of his experience, more power to you, but the fact that RG3 is black or any other qb for that matter, is irrelevant.

Just ask Warren “Hall of Fame” Moon, late career Randall Cunningham, and Doug “Super Bowl Winning QB” Williams. They were all pocket passers and all highly successful at one level or another.

Raiders fans are delusional, your team hasn’t been good for a decade now. The Carson Palmer trade was by far one of the biggest steals, unfortunately for Cincy not you. Palmer was declining and had a huge injury. He’s nothing like he used to be, the Raiders are going to be 6-10 to 8-8 for the next 5 years. Campbell made far less mistakes then Palmer and now with Busy gone your run game suffers because we all know DMC sits out 5 games for a bruised pinky. He is going to start from step 1 again. With Greg Knapp of all people. (You should know raider fans, Its not his first rodeo in the O dot Co.) Knapp doesnt like to heave it downfield (ask T.O). He likes to run run run. And with a chinadoll RB, Bush a goner, and Taiwan (seriously? did his mom not realize that was a name of country?). Your team that was 1 win away is now getting broken apart and you have no draft/cap room to improve. The belief your gonna get better before your gonna get worse, is typical Raider fan idiocy

You do realize that that RG3 has never, ever thrown a pass in the NFL, right?

There are no guarantees in this league and RG3 (or Andrew Luck for the matter) could very well turn out to be a bust. Cam Newton was the exception, not the rule.

  50. torturedraiderfan says: Mar 12, 2012 6:59 AM

In my opinion, the higher priority should be resigning Michael Bush. You can’t count on McFadden for a full season and Bush has been a good fill in. Wimbley should realize he will not get a better deal anywhere else and rework his contract. If he won’t, let him go. Nobody outside of Cleveland ever heard of this guy before the trade to Oakland, and the Brown’s were willing to let him go for a third round draft pick. The guy made $1.065MM in 2010 with the Browns and now he wants to break the bank with the Raiders. Wimbley and his agent need a reality check.

I love this time of the year…it’s always comical how the raiders are always way way way over the cap, and everybody is going to get cut etc…..
But every year , everybody the raiders want , are still on the team.

As for wimbley it all goes back to last year how the nfl voided the contract that wimbley’s agent put together last year. He screwed the raiders over, and forced the raiders to put the franchise tag on him. Nothing against Wimbley but does anybody really think he is one of the best LB’s in the nfl…….I think wimbley will still be a raider, but no way at that kind of money 5 to 6 million per season is ok.

  55. raiders757 says: Mar 12, 2012 11:35 AM

@ hendawg21: The Skins traded THREE first round pics and a second for ONE first round pic. It’s still Three pics that were traded. You can call it a swap or whatever you want, but three first round pics were given up for the right to move up for one higher first round pic. See what we are getting at here.?No matter which way you slice it, the Skins gave up three first round pics, and some, to gain just one first round pic. I agree with another article on this site. It’s all just semantics. Nobody is really wrong, and all this arguing over it is just getting silly.
