On Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET, the new league year begins.  Free agency opens.  Trades can happen.  And all that crap.

We’ll celebrate the occasion with 32 hours of continuous coverage, via ongoing updates until the clock strikes 12 on Wednesday night, maybe longer.

Silva is putting together the first draft of our top 100 free agents, which we’ll update as each deal comes in.

We’ll also remain on top of the biggest stories, like the Peyton chase, the Saints’ bounty system, and the latest out-of-the-blue controversy regarding the league’s effort to swipe $46 million in cap room from the Cowboys and Redskins.

Why do I have a feeling that some other major, unexpected story is right around the corner?

  1. PFT: I hope you have your backup servers tested. They’ll get a workout tomorrow with people thirsting for news. Give and you shall receive ratings.

  2. Weren’t the Redskins the first team to drown a player with money in free agency last year…wasn’t it O.J. Atogwe? Guess they won’t be the first this year since they got cap-slapped.

  3. No one will hear you blogging away from what is now known as District 12 of Panem.

For, “The Hunger Games” have begun!

May the odds be forever in your favor!

  4. Hopefully someone will trade for Freeney and give the Colts a 2nd round pick or close to that, hopefully …………

  5. Big story lines in the NFL are Peyton (manning), Payton (Sean), and the Redskins and Cowboys who Paid a Ton…

Like Moss signing with the Niners?

    BTW, get the hamsters ready.

  7. As a PFT loyal reader since I first read about your site in Sports Illustrated a good half decade ago now, (not trying to kiss arse), I would like to thank you for starting the site and keeping it strong Mike. You have the best site for all the updates we crave. You have the journalistic quality of a “real news site”, but you keep us uptodate with all the rumors as well.

You’ve single handedly changed my internet habits from the dull and worn out entertainment sports network for my football news. You’ve got the best football site around.

For those interested a site like this about baseball, I recommend checking out Tim Dierkis’ site mlbtraderumors.com.

Now lets see if we can run NBC’s hamsters into the ground!

  8. Craig over at HBT is far better than MLBTR. that site restricts nearly everything with any juice to it

  9. Mort:Peyton Manning met between 5 & 6 hours late today with #Dolphins coach Joe Philbin and other staff members in Indianapolis, per sources.

  10. Peyton will sign with Miami at 3:59 PM. Wayne will sign on 4:01, and Saturday at 4:47 (due to a long line at Subway).

  11. Maybe this is the next big story that’s just around the corner. My 12-year-old football geek walked out of his bedroom this morning and said thus:

“Dad, Peyton Manning is going to sign with the Broncos. Then some other team that needs a quarterback and couldn’t get Peyton Manning or Matt Flynn will sign Brian Hoyer. And then Tim Tebow will end up with the Patriots.”

How do you know that? I asked. I just have a feeling, he said. I don’t think he’s rooting for this outcome — he’s a Pats fan but not a Tebow fan, so I dunno. But if it happens, you heard it here first.
