A day after it was reported that the Jets and Sione Pouha were speeding up the pace of their contract talks, a deal has been reached.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Pouha has reached an agreement with the Jets on a new three-year contract.

The Jets gambled when they decided not to franchise Pouha that they could come to terms on a new deal before free agency started, and now they’ve done so, with about 30 hours to spare.

The 33-year-old Pouha has played in all 16 games for the Jets for five consecutive seasons and has been a starter at defensive tackle for the last three years.
