I am far from a Jets Fan, but that is a good Signing. My issue here is " the best run stuffing DT in the NFL" LOL! I think that Ngata, Suh, Raji, Ratcliff and Soliai would have something to say about that. BTW- the Pats Fan was almost right... Wilfork does come next at#6. and then you have Sione at #7, but hey who's counting ;)

@ninersoutsider: now it's my turn to cut and paste info for you about Sanchez's extension:

Sanchez was going to be a $14.25 million hit on the cap before the extension. The team freed up $6.4 million in cap space this season. Sanchez’s $11.75 million base salary for 2012 was converted to a $8 million signing bonus. A league source confirmed that Sanchez has a fully-guaranteed $3.25 million base salary for 2012. Sanchez will receive an $8.25 million fully guaranteed base salary in 2013. He has non-guaranteed base salaries from 2014-16.

Did you read that last sentence? The final 3 years are "NON-GUARANTEED". For your third grade intelligence, let me clarify this: it means he gets NOT A PENNY MORE if he flops the next two years.

Again, my point being that all this "extension" did was to free up over $6 million in salary space and award Sanchez for his success of his first two years, and give the Jets some much-needed roster flexibility in a couple of years- which they already committed to Sanchez in the first place.

@ninersoutsider- very nice stats pull, but you forgot to mention that the three years you used were Sanchez's first three years. So, in the interest of fairness, and to further prove my point that you have so conveniently missed, here are your boy Smith's first three years' stats:

435 for 800 (54.4 completion pct) and 4679 yards with rather impressive (cough cough) 19-31 TD to INT ratio. Oh yeah, one other important stat...number of playoff wins in his first three years?? To quote Dean Wermer from Animal House: zero...point...zero!

@nineroutsider- here’s your explanation in 4 words: CREATED MORE CAP SPACE. Sanchez’s contract added a total of $2.5 million to what the Jets had already committed to a QB who lead his team to the conference championship in each of his first two years in the NFL. Can’t say that about your starting QB who, up until last year, wishes he had Sanchez’s numbers from last season (his worst), Can’t wait to see what the Niners have to pay your boy Smith for his one-season wonder.

i cant wait for these two teams to play next season, ever since that loud mouth punk REXANNE spat off saying he could not wait to play us & kick our @sse$ & the obvious tampering by gm mike tampon with crabtree hold-out BECAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR REXANNE

Speaking of Super Bowls, how many have the Pats won since they were caught cheating?

You mean the same year that the Jets exact same taping habits led to the Spygate scandal? Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black.

Sing it with me...

YETS!
YETS!
YETS!

So please refresh my memory... which years did Sanchez lead the Yets to Super Bowl wins?

Simple fact... your team played 6-10 football this past season, but two giveaway games (San Diego and Dallas) made it seem more respectable. Hanging on to a disaster of a franchise quarterback simply means inching closer to the first overall pick in next year's draft; enjoy!

Huh??

And rabidbillsfan, The Jets had big problems on the perimeter with the run.. especially after B.Thomas went out for the year. The Jets allowed 2.9 yards per carry up the middle according to PFF, which was best in the NFL. They also ranked Pouha as their #1 DT in the league due to his dominance in the run game. He is awesome at what he does.

I wouldn't say he was the best considering there were 11 teams better at stopping the run than the Jets, and 7 of those teams employ a 3-4. This is what I don't get, the Jets extend Sanchez, but it is clear that without a good defense to back him up, they are going nowhere. Also, who cares what he did 2 years ago, he sat on the couch this post-season. Hey, maybe Tebow will be available, atleast it would improve your run game.

Hey pfii63, was Sanchez a loser when he went to Foxborough and knocked the Pats out of the playoffs in 2010?

————————————————

That was the year he won the Super Bowl.

Right?

Lol.. you should keep posting.. I'd love to see how bad you can keep making yourself look. Go ahead, act like it was no big deal when the Pats were 14-2 and lost at home to the Jets in the playoffs.. whatever you say, pal. No matter what the Jets do, nobody will ever give them credit. It's pathetic.

Hey pfii63, was Sanchez a loser when he went to Foxborough and knocked the Pats out of the playoffs in 2010?

————————————————

That was the year he won the Super Bowl.

Right?

———————————————–

Lol.. you should keep posting.. I’d love to see how bad you can keep making yourself look. Go ahead, act like it was no big deal when the Pats were 14-2 and lost at home to the Jets in the playoffs.. whatever you say, pal. No matter what the Jets do, nobody will ever give them credit. It’s pathetic.

Speaking of Super Bowls, how many have the Pats won since they were caught cheating?

not a JET fan or hater.. like the signing as I think he is VERY important to that defense.

I also think the Sanchez extension was smart by the organization because for the 2.5 million they get the option to cut bait after 2013,14,or 2015. each one of those years they have the option. I honestly think they will be taking that option one of those years when they are in a better position to grab an elite signal caller through the draft or free agency..Sanchez is NOT the answer.. He is a pretty Trent Dilfer

Getting manning wouldnt be the answer or long term solution and they were not gonna move up to the 1 or 2 spots this year.

-----------------------------------------------------------
OK, but how do you explain this:

MARK SANCHEZ, Jets
Contract status: Signed contract extension on Friday that reportedly totals five years, $58.25 million with $20.5 million in guarantees for 2012 and '13. The deal includes three new years with $40.5 million in new money.

2009-2011 statistics
Games (W-L): 47 games, 47 starts (27-20)
Comp-Att (Pct): 782 of 1,414 (55.3)
Avg yards per game: 195.9
TDs/Int: 55/51
Rating: 73.2

ALEX SMITH, 49ers
Contract status: Unsigned for 2012

Best run stuffer in the league? Not by a longshot. Wilfork is better on a bad day.

And your handle tells us all we need to know. The extension of Sanchez was both hollow and transparent. Counting on that loser to take your team anywhere is a guarantee that the drought will continue.

Enjoy fighting the fins for last place!
-------------------------------------
lol another doozy of a post here! You're on a roll, chief! First of all, Pouha is MUCH better against the run than Wilfork.. Wilkfork just has name recognition, which means absolutely nothing. Just check the rankings on Profootballfocus.. or better yet, WATCH the games. The Jets stuff the run because Pouha is dominant. The Pats defense sucks.

Secondly, Sanchez's extension was a brilliant move by Tannenbaum.. check the details of it. It gave them 6.5m in cap room this year, which was a big reason they were able to re-sign Pouha AND make more moves once free agency begins. Third, calling him a loser is funny, since he went into Foxboro and outplayed Brady and beat the Pats in the playoffs in 2010 didn't he?

Finally, I think you should check the definitions of "Shallow" and "Transparent" because they make no sense when it comes to Sanchez's deal. They DO make sense however, when discussing your posts. Because those are both shallow and transparent. Clearly.
