I beg to differ, the Tuna WAS living on his old reputation. He built the Cowboys and the Fins in his old style and where did that get those teams? The league changed and no one told the Tuna or he was to pig headed to listen and change with it. Ross stayed out of his way and let him run the football side and Ross ran the Biz side. Tuna realized he could no longer compete in todays football and ran. Ross has some things to learn, but as a finfan having an owner that is willing to pay was it takes and also make the game time experience worth the rediculous prices they make fans pay in my eyes is a good thing.

Steve Ross is not good for the NFL, he has other agendas. Steve Ross should try and buy the Dodgers, his minor league sports franchise mentality would work in LA, in MLB, it fails in NFL. Steve Ross needs to sell the Dolphins if they ever want to return to a model franchise. Steve Ross has ruined the Miami Dolphins.

1) I have to believe PM was tired from his road trip and didn’t really need to see the Dolphins facilities as he has been there before. I believe he is trying to move reasonably fast on this to allow teams to pursue other Qb options and not hold them hostage and repeat a Lebron type scenario of backlash on his reputation.

2) The Dolphins new coaching staff are rumored to install the west coast offense and PM obviously wanted to hear how he would fit in that plan or are they willing to be flexable and cater to his style.

3) Its a save face kind of thing, showing respect to the Dolphins might allow PM and family to remain living in South Beach without to much backlash from rabid fans when he visits his vacation condo.

4) PM knows the $$$$ will be there where ever he chooses to go so meeting Ross and hearing his sales pitch would be a waste of time as PM knows everything he needs to know about South Beach.

5) It was simply a money grab, Ross’ big pockets against others big pockets only rasises the pot.

I’m personally torn on this, Yea he would be great to have for a few years at best but at what expense to the plan of Philbin and Sherman long term ?
If Philbin like any new coach wants to earn the respect of the locker room how do you bow to PM’s offensive wishes and not look like his biatch? Not a good way to take over a team.
The more I think of it, if Philbin thinks Flynn is the real deal, go after him and install your full plan and set us up long term.

Uhh, how many games did Manning play again last year? By my count, he had more neck surgeries than games played. I’m amazed that people don’t get the fact there’s currently great risk with Manning and most franchises are not going to take a chance on setting their franchise back for years if Manning doesn’t pan out. Plus, the financial commitment that goes along with it. The Texans have NO cap space (and that doesn’t even include Mario Williams’ salary). What, are they supposed to purge their roster just to sign a HUGE risk in Manning? Think, people!

I have always believed that ESPN hates Miami (Phins/Canes) It’s funny this was never mentioned during these “in-depth” reports. No it isnt a direct connection with Peyton but it is a connection besides Marino. May be what got Philbin in the door.

A 6 hour meeting (if the report is accurate)doesnt sound like Peyton checking a box. It isnt him signing a contract either. Hopefully he will make a decision soon so we can get on with Free-agency and the draft.

Adam Mortenson reports sources believe Peyton Manning will sign with the Colts!

After several team choices it came down to the fact they already had a Jersey with his name on it!

And therein lies the rub.

Manning might like to do business with those people. Just not in Miami.

So unless the Dolphins can move to a city where people can be people for the duration of Peyton’s career, it appears that the Dolphins have little chance of signing a family man with a low-key lifestyle.

Miami has to know Peyton is not coming, but still they need to keep up appearances, so that fans believe they have tried all they could.

But in reality after Orton, Harbaugh and Fisher left Miami at the alter, there isn’t much comforting the fan base with “best efforts” they want real results.

But are Dolphin fans in for an even harsher reality than they realize? Broncos, Cardinals, and Titans all have guys at QB they are prepared to go with next season, so they linger, and while they keep the porch light on Peyton, can Miami afford to do the same?

Dolphins can wait and wait on Peyton, and in the end, soon find that it was a wasted effort, but even worse they could lose out on Flynn while Peyton plays musicals chairs.

I don’t see this ending well!

A team owner should write the checks and leave it at that. Philbin is an X’s & O’s guy who’s respectable enough to hold his own; he doesn’t need a team owner at his side drooling on the meeting table.

Great job by both Manning & the Phins for keeping their pow-wow at the level they did without all the hoopla.

I wish them the best, really do, but that scenario seems risky.
