Eagles work out free agent linebacker Ben Leber

It’s no secret that the Eagles need linebackers who can shed blocks and make tackles. They’ve been showing interest in one candidate recently.

Per Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com, Philadelphia worked out veteran free agent linebacker Ben Leber this week. Leber has played all three linebacker positions during his career.

The former longtime Minnesota Viking is 33 years old and was released by the St. Louis Rams in December, so the Eagles would likely view Leber strictly as a versatile backup option.

I thought you said they weren’t creating Dream Team 2.0?

Eagles need all the help they can get at lb. Brng him in! Today should be all about Tulloch though

  3. eaglesw00t says: Mar 13, 2012 12:43 PM

    Seriously?

Cant you do what every other team in the NFL does? Try and draft REAL LBs? And maybe get them to perform? Instead of picking up a few in the 6th and 7th rounds and throwing them out onto the field?

    Its embarrassing, really.

Typical….wtf just because you want to distance yourself from the bs dream team monicer you were dealt last year by all the big moves does not mean you have to revert back to old ways. This move screams of the Marlin Jackson moves of days past. This guys is no better than anyone currently on the roster.

Get off the dream team thing already. It was nutcase VY who said it not one other Eagle made that statement.

I know they don’t want to make a big splash, but why not Curtis Lofton? That would give them some much needed thump in the middle.

Do not think he can come in and just fill that missing spot.I hope that is not what Andy is thinking. We need a young productive LB.

LMAO.Bringing in a FA that is not a probowler and you think we are trying to make a Dream Team2.0 ?

Tulloh all the way! Birds need a lot of help at LB.

  10. gromgrimfist says: Mar 13, 2012 1:09 PM

    Bring in Tolbert and Lofton

  11. purpleguy says: Mar 13, 2012 1:10 PM

Great guy, smart player, but you could time him with a sun dial even when he was in his 20’s. The question the eagles need to ask is if a 33 year old slow but experienced LB is the best fit for a back-up role when his special teams use is limited.

  12. 787angelv says: Mar 13, 2012 1:15 PM

Leber would be a nice back up but eagles need a starter to come in and make a impact

why is it that my posts never show anymore, but again…NOOO!!!!!!! we don’t need a LB over the age of 30

  15. yevrag3535 says: Mar 13, 2012 1:28 PM

Whoever says “Dream Team” this year please don’t. Come up with something new. Everyone is sick and tired of hearing about that, and I hate these guys. So if you do you are offically a person who needs to get a life or you are just a dick. (ask your mother, wife or girlfriend they will confirm it)

  16. myeaglescantwin says: Mar 13, 2012 1:40 PM

so after we get the three pieces that we need (MLB, OLB & hugeDT) & spank the entire NFC & take the Super Bowl,, can we still use the DREAM TEAM term.

I love how 95% of the nation thinks the eagles have no talent on the roster.. Just wait

( i really want to believe this, but with Andy at the helm, lord knows i cant be too serious)

  17. kahunanc says: Mar 13, 2012 1:48 PM

Are you kidding me ? Ben Leber should have been signed years ago, bigger and better than any LB we have. Dan Connor at least can tackle, a prerequisite for a MLB. Sign them both.

    It was a joke, genius.

If the Eagles big plan for free agency this year is to overpay for Connor right out of the gate and then sign Ben Leber …………..I’m sorry I have supported Andy Reid through all the BS ……….you have Tulloch, Lofton, Hawthorne, even Deandre Levy if you want to go cheap or Fletcher is cheap at 37 for a 1 year deal.

Even if you don’t want to go that route you could draft Kuechly or Dont’a Hightower in the first or Bobby Wagner in the end of the second.

All these option would be better!!!!!!!!

Connor is only good against the run he is small and is only 231 lbs the exact same weight he left college at. I mean that in itself tells you the guys doesn’t get in the weight room enough or his body doesn’t lend itself to gaining weight on his frame.

If God loves Tim Tebow he sure hates the Eagles!

    undersized? check
at least one major injury? check
“high motor” but can’t play? check

typical Eagles – its been a tough 32 years as a fan.

Hate to say this…but I’m praying we stink next year…..so we can send Howie, Andy, and Mike Vick on a one way ticket down the Delaware River.

  21. myeaglescantwin says: Mar 13, 2012 3:53 PM

    kspells

I’m with you nearly 100%,, but what reason do you have to hate on howie roseman??

that man got andy reid every player and opportunity he asked for.. thats what a GM is supposed to do.. Howie isn’t the head of football operations..

if we get a real coach that knows what type of players are needed in the NFL,, look out.. HOWIE “STEELY EYED” ROSEMAN will gettem

  22. oldbyrd says: Mar 14, 2012 9:15 AM

They say that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Seems Reid doesn’t know that….more 7th rounders coming our way?????
