Glazer: Dolphins trade Brandon Marshall to Bears

And we’re off.  In a major way.

The new league year is open, and the Dolphins have fired the first shot.  Jay Glazer of FOX reports that they have traded receiver Brandon Marshall to the Bears for a 2012 third-round pick and a 2013 third-round pick.

The move reunites Marshall with quarterback Jay Cutler.  The spent three years together in Denver.

Also in Chicago is quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates, who worked with Cutler and Marshall in Denver.

It also clears Marshall out of Miami, in advance of the potential arrival of Peyton Manning, whom some believed had misgivings about playing with Marshall.

So it’s sort of like reverse-Peyton bait.

The Dolphins gave up two second-round picks to get Marshall in 2010.  He has five straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons, and he was the MVP of the 2012 Pro Bowl, with four touchdown receptions.

This better mean that Peyton is coming to the team!

  14. onebadace says: Mar 13, 2012 4:01 PM

Jay Cutler is reunited with his #1 WR. The Bears just got alot scarier (especially if they get Mario Williams)

  15. mortimeryoung says: Mar 13, 2012 4:01 PM

I assume one of the players tweeted this and Glazer “reported” it, like the other story.

  16. mikebe1 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:01 PM

Wow they just traded their best player

  17. bobwhitequail says: Mar 13, 2012 4:01 PM

  20. bigbearincali says: Mar 13, 2012 4:02 PM

Hell yeah!!!!! Marshall for 2 number 3’s, any day of the week!

Now, go get Mario Williams and re-stock our aging defense with our draft.

    Super bowl contending Bears!!

  21. pnut87 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:02 PM

    Wha-wha-what?!

I know he’s a bit of a head case, but get a guy who can throw and he’s a monster! Kiss Peyton goodbye…

  22. braven4evr says: Mar 13, 2012 4:02 PM

not a bad move by either team. da bears can still go after v-jax…wow!

  24. cincyorangenblack says: Mar 13, 2012 4:02 PM

    aaaand BINGO was his name-O.

wow bears, not f’ing around huh….

would love for this to be b/c of manning then see him sign elsewhere

  25. conormacleod says: Mar 13, 2012 4:02 PM

Little inside scoop? How did Marshall and Cutler get along in Denver? I’m assuming it was ok.

  26. barneyrumble says: Mar 13, 2012 4:02 PM

A Headcase at times, but a BEAST on the field. That means VJax goes elsewhere and that is too bad, would have rather had him, but Marshall and Cutler back together poses better possibilities than anything last year.

  27. Nevis says: Mar 13, 2012 4:02 PM

Reverse Peyton bait and STILL may not get it done.

  28. lrt79 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:02 PM

  41. efriedo says: Mar 13, 2012 4:03 PM

Good trade for the Bears, and yet another reason why the Dolphins will not be relevant!

  42. 13forgbp says: Mar 13, 2012 4:03 PM

Just what the Bears need, higher expectations. As a Packer fan I have to say this makes them better, but at least they still have Lovie as their HC.

  43. thraiderskin says: Mar 13, 2012 4:03 PM

wow… good for Cutler… That is crazy how this went down.

  44. stealthhawk says: Mar 13, 2012 4:04 PM

Dolphins fans a week ago: “Come to Miami Peyton, we’ve got Brandon Marshall!”

    Dolphins fans today: :-(

What up Jay Cutler Pro Bowl Year

  46. imasturbate says: Mar 13, 2012 4:04 PM

Two 3rd round picks seems like a steal if he doesn’t go crazy again.

    Cutler to Marshall 2.0

  48. bradcall01 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:04 PM

dont like the move, two third rounders for a “number 1″ wide reciever?

  49. bearsrulepackdrool says: Mar 13, 2012 4:04 PM

We get a WR and room to sign Mario. A two-fer!

  50. mikeschmiedt says: Mar 13, 2012 4:04 PM

Wow…just wow. Didn’t see this coming. What in the world are they thinking?

  51. hammerjacker says: Mar 13, 2012 4:04 PM

What the hell are the Dolphins thinking??? lol

  52. 808raiderinparadise says: Mar 13, 2012 4:04 PM

Non story. Brandon Marshall is a great talent, but lacks all the other intangables to make him an impact WR for an offensive team ….

he talks, he complains, he doesn’t block, he gets flagged and he is always near trouble off the field …..

    Here we go.

  53. peytonsneck18 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:04 PM

    Nice move by da bears!!!

  58. justinnelson71 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:05 PM

    Watch out Green Bay.

  59. sschmiggles says: Mar 13, 2012 4:05 PM

Very solid trade for the Bears. Two 3rds isn’t much to give up for a receiver you know can work with your QB.

  60. finsrule2222 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:05 PM

i swear to god if this doesnt result in peyton signing with us…

is this a joke?? die hard dolphin fan here. can someone please talk me off the ledge

  61. roamingabriel says: Mar 13, 2012 4:05 PM

Good move Fins! Who needs playmakers?????

  62. thevza says: Mar 13, 2012 4:05 PM

…and secure the seat next to him on the jet to Chicago this afternoon for Mario Williams.

  63. maozedarmiento says: Mar 13, 2012 4:05 PM

The Dolphins got fleeced. Sucks to be them!

  64. getadealdonealready says: Mar 13, 2012 4:05 PM

Is the guy that much of a cancer that they gave him away? I hate the bears, but this seams like a can’t lose deal for them.

  65. Nikhil Balakumar says: Mar 13, 2012 4:05 PM

if they pull off mario williams too, we have a new superbowl contender in the NFC

  66. 1andonlykingp says: Mar 13, 2012 4:05 PM

Wow, didn’t see this coming. And for only two 3rd round picks? What a steal

    that was fast

  68. kmurph1226 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:06 PM

ARE YOU KIDDING ME IRELAND? I JUST BOUGHT MY MARSHALL JERSEY LAST WEEK!

Not to mention, you only got two THIRD round picks in return! This better be for Manning or a different top WR or I’m done.

  69. xxwhodatxx says: Mar 13, 2012 4:06 PM

  74. fu7ur3pr00f says: Mar 13, 2012 4:06 PM

Wow, this is like the first good thing the Bears have done since the Cutler trade, and Peppers signing.

    Now…how about that Mario Williams?

  75. tropboi11 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:06 PM

So next is V-Jax to the Bucs

  76. AlanSaysYo says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

  77. mightyleemoon says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

Jackson to the Bucs pretty much a lock at this point.

  78. raidersfan24 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

Now Reggie Wayne is going to miami.. hopefully Peyton is too

  79. kowboyzz says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

  80. stengy says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

two 3rds is a joke! wicked deal for the bear

  81. vikingsrdue says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

Decent trade for Chicago, they were a great tandem in Denver.

  82. joj0420 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

damn and the vikings still dont have anyone outside of the aging but amazing winfield..

  83. Rex Grossman says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

“Holy ****!” – me when I saw the Jay Glazer tweet.

And is it just me or is two third-rounders for Marshall, like, nothing? To me he is a far better wide out than V-Jax, and it seems like Bears got him for a lot less. Steal of the effin decade, man.

  84. carryingweight says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

Boom. Bears already looking to compete with the pack and det.

  85. deangelo1776 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

  86. jaycutlerisourquarterback says: Mar 13, 2012 4:07 PM

Nice! Now super mario and peppers team up!

  87. gamerhetor says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

Interesting move. He’s younger than VJax (isn’t he?) and has some rapport with Cutler. Two 3rd rounders isn’t a bad price, either – though Bears have usually been good with 3rd rounders (at least under Angelo) – Bennett, Hester, Briggs, uhhh….some others.

    Bears.

  88. stengy says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

peyton, wayne and clark to miami?

  89. peytonsneck18 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

They will sign Peyton then, cause reports that Peyton didnt want to play wth Marshall

  90. troybulletinboard says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

decent move, hopefully he can get himself together. 3 3rd rounders is a good price to pay, especially if it’ll free us to go after Super Mario and an O-lineman.

  91. tuckfanforlife says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

thats highway robbery, wtf is miami doing

  92. stengy says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

    garcon? tamme?

  93. bighock says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

Cry Baby and McDonalds Bag reunited.

  94. rando74 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

Well that should solve the wide receiver problem in Chicago.

  95. phillybirds says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

Miami is going to be terrible this season.

  96. gmen4life33 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

Wow. I like it for both teams. Da Beaaaars might be scary next year if they get even a half decent O-Line

  97. chitownborn5434 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

That’s a steal considering we had 2 third round picks in this years draft. Did the Bears just do something smart? What dimension is this? Where am I?

  98. jmbresky says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

Philbin said he wants great people as well as great players. Guess that means goodbye Marshall and Hello to Reggie Wayne and/or Justin Blackmon?

  99. bucwild05 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:08 PM

Really???!?? You had to tie this article in with Manning…. Good grief!!!!!!!!!!

  100. blue18hutthutt says: Mar 13, 2012 4:09 PM

PFT at its best – one person’s unfounded SPECULATION about Manning not wanting to play with Brandon Marshall is now going to be self-referenced in your future posts, as though it were “fact” and this is when all the Manning haters chime in with “that evil greedy Manning always has to have things his way” and cite articles like this as “proof”

    Nice work.

  101. rcali says: Mar 13, 2012 4:09 PM

Wow, a top receiver in his prime for a couple of 3rd round picks? Marshall must have been hated by the Dolphin organization if its true.

No way they are letting Manning make these decisions behind the scenes, right?

  102. trevor123698 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:09 PM

Hes not the best reciever in the NFL and he is definitely a little bit crazy so he is certainly a risk, but I would take Marshall over any reciever on the market right now.

  103. yungbull2012 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:09 PM

I’m sure this will lower the price for V-Jax to Tampa.

  104. ProDolphinsTalk says: Mar 13, 2012 4:09 PM

Ugh… I guess we had too many Pro-Bowlers and not enough 3rd round picks.

  105. troybulletinboard says: Mar 13, 2012 4:09 PM

    pardon, TWO 3rd rounders.

  106. jrosenbaum says: Mar 13, 2012 4:09 PM

WOW. This may be the missing piece the Bears need. Even better is that the team doesn’t have to pay a zillion dollars for Vincent Jackson, meaning they can snag Mario Williams as well. This may be a turning point in BearLand.

  107. whatnojets says: Mar 13, 2012 4:09 PM

Manning will not sign witht he Dolphins.
    He will signe with Arizona.

    End of story

  108. dcfan21 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:10 PM

Well I guess this means Manning & Wayne will be reunited in Miami while Redskins & Bucs will be fighting over V-Jaxs.

  109. 69finfan says: Mar 13, 2012 4:10 PM

Brandon Marshall at times can be a very good receiver but he is inconsistent and drops way too many passes, especially if there are defenders around him. If there are 2 around forget it, he isn’t making that catch. This news can only mean one thing and it’s good news for the Fins.

  110. scrapingthefloorioforstorios says: Mar 13, 2012 4:10 PM

yeah, and lipstick looks good on a pig. this trade won’t help either team.

  111. ken0west says: Mar 13, 2012 4:10 PM

Noooooooooo. We just gave him away. This is BS.

  112. broncobeta says: Mar 13, 2012 4:10 PM

    Wow.

    Peyton to Davone Bess?

  113. quannumkid says: Mar 13, 2012 4:10 PM

Not just Peyton, but Reggie Wayne too.

  114. benicio1010 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:10 PM

Peyton to the Phins baby. Maybe mario Williams or V. Jackson is coming along as well!!

  115. Dad and Buried says: Mar 13, 2012 4:11 PM

If this was to get Manning and they DON’T, the Fins had better have a backup plan WR-wise because they’re gonna look really stupid if they don’t. Again.

  116. katrinasafterbirth says: Mar 13, 2012 4:11 PM

Welcome to Miami, Mr. Manning and Mr. Wayne…

  117. amartland says: Mar 13, 2012 4:11 PM

hey, they had to find SOME way to replace Sam Hurd, right?

  118. paleandpasty says: Mar 13, 2012 4:11 PM

wow! two second rounders for two third rounders.

  119. jpiro says: Mar 13, 2012 4:11 PM

Hell yes. I’d take Marshall over V. Jackson any day, and since he’s already proven he can play with Cutler and in cold weather this is truly ideal.

Let’s get to work on that OL, Bears. Things are looking good.

  120. writersrstupid says: Mar 13, 2012 4:11 PM

    1- cutler is soft
2- they lost a real offensive cord
3- no real treath conservative offense run run pass now lol they still are a joke.
4-marshall is past his good year
5- they be out of the playoffs for years to come an will b either 3rd or fourth in they div.

  121. jdandcoke says: Mar 13, 2012 4:11 PM

id be stunned if peyton isnt a dolphin now

  122. perno13 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:11 PM

Bears fan here. Still having chills down my spine from this pickup, bravo Phil Emery!

  123. lonespeed says: Mar 13, 2012 4:11 PM

Wow. What a solid trade for all sides, which is rare.

Brandon Marshal gives the Bears there first legitimate number one receiver in years and makes sense for Marshal given his connections in Chicago.

For Miami, this frees them up to go after both Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne. It may be Miami’s only shot at getting Manning.

  124. vikesorgtfo says: Mar 13, 2012 4:12 PM

With all the big contracts they give in FA and all the low contracts they’re giving up (draft picks) they may be setting themselves up for some cap issues soon.

  125. iivil says: Mar 13, 2012 4:12 PM

Two third round picks is a damn good price for him.

  126. emaimo80 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:12 PM

  129. rollteal says: Mar 13, 2012 4:12 PM

Duh ! Peyton gave the ok …

  130. dta1978 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:12 PM

Good move, they stole him from the dolphins. Now sign Mario, and get cutler another reciever like Royal or Meachum. They can than use the 1st round pick to select the best avaliable player.

  131. chadman128 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:12 PM

If it’s really just two 3rd round picks I would make this deal every day and twice on Sunday baby!!! Go Bears!!!

  132. byreinier says: Mar 13, 2012 4:12 PM

This is why I love the offseason…

  133. stengy says: Mar 13, 2012 4:13 PM

ps. how does washington not make this trade?

  134. pgd15 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:13 PM

wow all it takes to get one of the top receivers in the game in his prime is a couple 3rd rounders, the bears really won this trade big time, You would be lucky to get even a starting player out of a 3rd round pick righ now. Can’t believe this is all it took

  135. rippedoffhead says: Mar 13, 2012 4:13 PM

That’s a steal for the Bears… unless Marshall goes all crazy again.

Always seemed to have good chemistry with Cutler.

  139. falcon340985 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:13 PM

thats a descent way to start the free agency period. even though it is a trade it brings in a receiver to a receiver needy team. now its time to go after mario williams and cortland finnegan

Christ, are we taking on his $10M a year contract? Bad news Bears, this better mean you are signing Mario Williams, and OT in the 1st round, and another receiver in the 2nd.

I wanted them to continue using those 3rd round picks on the secondary.

  142. kane337 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:13 PM

    Ummm, WoW! Speechless.

  143. canonroad says: Mar 13, 2012 4:13 PM

WOW. As a Vikes fan…this is a bit alarming.

two 3rd rounders?! That’s it? Come on Miami! Have some respect for yourself.

  144. h07z says: Mar 13, 2012 4:13 PM

The man was a beast (both on and off the field) with Cutler in Denver. Seems like a low risk high reward move with only giving up two third rounders.

  145. davidpcoelho says: Mar 13, 2012 4:14 PM

So who will the QB throw to now?

  146. scerpico22 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:14 PM

    Peyton…Wayne…welcome to the 305!!!

  147. jollyrob68 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:14 PM

unless they’re going after Vincent Jackson or Mike Wallace

  148. whoknowsnothing says: Mar 13, 2012 4:14 PM

Wow! Nice pick up by the Bears.
Would this mean the Fins are likely to pursue V.Jackson? or are the Fins moving up in the draft to select Blackmon?

  149. phileborn says: Mar 13, 2012 4:14 PM

This is STUPID! Why get rid of the best player we have for almost nothing?? Hopefully there is a plan in place for this madness

  150. killface4prez says: Mar 13, 2012 4:14 PM

Two third rounders? That’s it? As a packer fan, all I can say is….crap.

  151. mikeyfresh25 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:14 PM

Josh McDaniels ruined the Broncos, I’m glad these too are back toether.

  152. mac3333 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:14 PM

Again Miami proves it doesn’t understand value.

Trade their best player for 2 3rd round picks? Stupid. No matter how big a head case Marshall is.

  153. reverend5150 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:14 PM

  154. yelix says: Mar 13, 2012 4:15 PM

Wow. Phil Emery has done more in 15 minutes of free agency than Jerry Angelo did in years.

  155. phinfan says: Mar 13, 2012 4:15 PM

Good let him drop TD passes for Chicago. Then he has no excuse this time when he says “well if I had a good qb like Cutler throwing the ball…” cancer – go away

Welcome to the Phins Reggie Wayne!

  161. MedCityBob says: Mar 13, 2012 4:15 PM

  162. thewizardofbs says: Mar 13, 2012 4:16 PM

I hope he takes that wife of his with him, ya’ know, the one that stabbed him.

  163. bearsSTH says: Mar 13, 2012 4:16 PM

It’s not a move I thought would happen after the Cutler/Marshall twitter tease a few months back but I can’t say its a bad one.

Looking up his cap number I found $11.35M. That’s a pretty good chunk of the roughly $22M that was reported available. Anxious to see the Bears next move.

Good start to the Emery era in Chicago.

  164. crazycane says: Mar 13, 2012 4:16 PM

WOOO HOOOOOO!! Next up, Super Mario

  165. jus10jonez says: Mar 13, 2012 4:16 PM

Wow. Did not see this one coming. Cutler needed someone but I’m surprised they went after Marshall. Thought him and cutler didn’t get along?

  166. ebr362 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:16 PM

He’s a beast when he isn’t dropping TDs. To much money for all those drops.

  167. rawgator06 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:17 PM

The Dolphins have officially pushed all-in. If they do not get Peyton, they are screwed. On the bright side, they can try to lure Matt Flynn by telling him he can one day be throwing to Davone Bess!

  168. jeffirelandshairline says: Mar 13, 2012 4:17 PM

    Welcome to Miami, Lord Peyton.

  169. benh999 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:17 PM

I can’t believe Miami’s front office was too incompetent to get more for him out of the team that would want him the most.

  170. ctownlegend says: Mar 13, 2012 4:17 PM

hahaha Straight hustled Miami, now lets see what Jay can do with a legit number one.

  171. ringthis says: Mar 13, 2012 4:17 PM

Next they will hire Josh McDaniels

  172. fukthestinkinjets says: Mar 13, 2012 4:17 PM

well.. hate to lose talent like that, but glad to get rid of a locker room cancer who couldn’t catch a ball when it really mattered!

  173. pooflingingmonkey says: Mar 13, 2012 4:17 PM

A good deal for the Bears. A Cutler-Forte-Marshall-V.Jackson front is pretty formidable, and has to have Bears fans pretty enthused.

  174. weskcfan says: Mar 13, 2012 4:18 PM

Wow! Didn’t see that one coming.

  175. anonymouslyanonymouscommentor says: Mar 13, 2012 4:18 PM

They had better hope they land Peyton now…

  176. zn0rseman says: Mar 13, 2012 4:18 PM

Wow… that seems awful cheap for a player of Marshal’s skill…

  177. unlost1 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:18 PM

i don’t think so. now manning has no WR to throw to.

  178. kippler says: Mar 13, 2012 4:18 PM

I guess Peyton Hillis is next!

  179. sb50 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:18 PM

Marshall is a great football player, no doubt about it. But he probably was just not a good locker room guy. Cutler and marshall will do good with eachother in Chicago. but this probably means that they arent getting Vincent Jackson like the last PFT report said

  180. bossplayer213 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:19 PM

Marshall had been posting on twitter during the playoffs about the good ol days with Cutler and how he wished he could play with an “elite” QB again. Guess he got his wish. And no I don’t think Cutler is elite. His words.

  181. flfan says: Mar 13, 2012 4:19 PM

so, manning, supposedly the best ever, can’t play with a new and difficult receiver? Really? so Miami is considering reggie wayne and dallas clark to make manning comfortable. Wow, most qb’s go to a new team and are expected to perform no matter who is around them but the “best ever” needs the recievers he’s used to throwing to.

  182. dabearstjm says: Mar 13, 2012 4:19 PM

As a Bears fan, words can not express how happy I am about this trade. Ill give up two third rounders any day for Marshall

  183. dv5454 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:19 PM

Although I’m always weary of giving up draft picks, solid pickup for the Bears. If he can keep his head on straight.

  184. fukthestinkinjets says: Mar 13, 2012 4:19 PM

And for once we didn’t give a player away to a division rival so he can torch us twice a year..

  185. rodge1 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:19 PM

Sad to see such a raw talent leave but his mental maturity always held him back. Hopefully Ireland will make good use of the draft picks.

  186. adantsa says: Mar 13, 2012 4:19 PM

Big upgrade for the Bears. The NFC North is going to be even sicker…not good news for my Vikings.

  187. 132ave says: Mar 13, 2012 4:19 PM

One thing comes to mind when I read this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4jGSvxCRp4

  188. mianfr says: Mar 13, 2012 4:20 PM

Wow, Miami… Marshall finally comes along and performs like expected and you trade him for less than what you paid (and acquired him in a fair swap)? That’s intuitively a bad deal.

  189. moosealiny says: Mar 13, 2012 4:20 PM

lol…wow they are pathetic. all this over a qb noone is for certain can play again…and if he can whos he throwing too now? davone bess? marshall was that teams BEST player. great move for the bears

  190. rufhausen says: Mar 13, 2012 4:20 PM

Are you suggesting he would prefer to throw to the [ enter remaining no-name receivers here ] over Marshall?

I think it means they realize they are not getting Manning and are now beginning Plan B, whatever that is.

  191. uschawk says: Mar 13, 2012 4:20 PM

You better get Peyton because you just gave away your best player on offense.

  192. 7thlombardiontheway says: Mar 13, 2012 4:20 PM

    How many rings again?

  193. phillyfreak24 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:20 PM

This move doesnt make a whole lot of sense for the Dolphins. Why trade your best offensive player for two 3rd round picks? They just lost out on the bid for Peyton!

  194. ricardorobertasq says: Mar 13, 2012 4:20 PM

Any idea how much cap space this saves?

  195. redlobster1984 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:20 PM

Great for both Cutler and Marshall

  196. cryforburke says: Mar 13, 2012 4:21 PM

  205. sabanissatan says: Mar 13, 2012 4:22 PM

  206. zlmillerkazz says: Mar 13, 2012 4:22 PM

Well, it’s official… The Dolphins are a joke.
    – They better have a plan that works out in the end for making this move. Peyton? IDK.

  207. khuxford says: Mar 13, 2012 4:22 PM

Oh, I so hope and pray that they made this trade AND miss out on Peyton. :)

But even if they get Peyton, I feel much better about it with anyone they’d bring in with him than with Marshall there. Wayne is overrated compared to Marshall.

  208. atrophiedambitions says: Mar 13, 2012 4:23 PM

Dolphins checking-out of the Peyton race. I don’t care if there were some rumors that Peyton wouldn’t like Marshall, now they just have ZERO targets.

  212. beerandtitties says: Mar 13, 2012 4:24 PM

In related news, the Chicago Police have stated the expect stabbings and crime to increase the remainder of the year.

  213. gottagotowork99 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:24 PM

Plenty of women to beat in Chicago. What’s the over/under on how long before this ninja is arrested again? Cheap price for two thirds though. Peyton to Miami now?

  214. dsharpe8 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:24 PM

Go f&@$ in’ Bears!!! Phil Emery is serious. The previous GM would’ve never made that move. He’s so long forgotten already I can’t remember his name for the death of me.

  215. djteknision1200 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:25 PM

I guess he had to go..He is such a troubled young man but he has talent. I guess the Dolphins felt like he was not worth all the trouble and he drops a lot of passes when it counts.

  216. beeronthefridge says: Mar 13, 2012 4:25 PM

Pey (me a) Ton (of money) Manning had nothing to do with this trade.

Marshall is talented but is also a basket case whose lack of concentration makes him drop easy passes.

Good riddance! Let’s see if earns love from Lovie!

Besides, signing PM without seeing him throw would be like buying a used car that you are not allowed to test drive.

  217. dairamx2 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:25 PM

    um…WTF??

  218. toonsterwu says: Mar 13, 2012 4:25 PM

Very, very sweet deal as a Bears fan. The big target that we needed, still in his prime. Brandon’s also voiced his respect for Jay.

At the cost of 1 3 this year (and the Bears had an extra on in the Olsen deal) and 1 next year, the value was good as well.

  219. tscarlato says: Mar 13, 2012 4:25 PM

    That’s a steal for Chicago.

  220. randygnyc says: Mar 13, 2012 4:26 PM

What, Peyton said, “I’ll sign, but I’m not throwing to THAT guy”? Or did he say, “I’d consider signing if THAT guy wasn’t here”?

Or, was Miami just sick of THAT guy.

  221. dcbraun1 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:26 PM

What a steal for Miami. I mean, they were already loaded with talent around Marshall and now they’re guaranteed two starters with those two third-round picks. And since Peyton is definitely going to be joining the team, there’s nothing to worry about, right? …right?

  222. moagecu says: Mar 13, 2012 4:26 PM

I hope this works out for the Bears considering they have only had four players to reach 1,000 yard receiving in a season over the past 25 years.

  223. sukittrebek says: Mar 13, 2012 4:26 PM

As a dolphins fan…honestly the bears can have him. As much as we was a weapon he was a liability a lot of times with tons of drops. Caught 6 td’s last year, dropped about 8 more. Doesn’t include one where he stopped to make a move when he caught it in the seam and was already gone if he didn’t stop. Would love to still have him he’s not nearly worth his salary.

  224. finsbooyah says: Mar 13, 2012 4:26 PM

2 3rd rounders??? It looks like we got robbed on this one. Surely they could have gotten a little more.

This is not the direction I envisioned Miami going at the start of the FA period. This seems to have blindsided everyone. Here’s hoping the front office has some tricks up their sleeves.

At least it clears 11million + of the books for this year.

  225. Revolution22 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:27 PM

Dolphins screwed the pooch on this one. Really hope that:

1: The connection they had in Denver isn’t re-established. At least “totally…”

    2. Nick Collins can come back, and play. Haven’t heard much about him lately.

    3. We get a killer DE to stop Cutler just in case they actually do something about their O-line. Preferablly Mario.

    That is all.

  226. seven2k says: Mar 13, 2012 4:27 PM

  227. guthyrenks says: Mar 13, 2012 4:27 PM

  230. stavreafavre says: Mar 13, 2012 4:28 PM

  231. countsnail says: Mar 13, 2012 4:28 PM

This is probably related to Peyton Manning in some way. He reportedly didn’t want to play with Marshall, so they got rid of him.

The Dolphins better hope they get Manning. If not, they screwed themselves. The Bears will be formidable now that Cutler has a real WR to throw to, Plus, he’s familiar with him from their days in Denver together.

  232. eaglesfootballfan says: Mar 13, 2012 4:28 PM

For only 2 3rd round picks. Dolphins better find another WR if they want Peyton.

  263. overkil2 says: Mar 13, 2012 4:39 PM

Wow, didn’t see this coming. Could be a prelude to Manning and Wayne coming to the Fins. I’m not sold on Manning. New coordinator installing a new system makes this year a transition year. How many used can Manning play? Haven’t we learned that we should avoid these temporary solutions and find a long term one.

I would take my chances with Flynn. If his games last years were his best then at least we know he can play at that level.

I’m tired of rooting for this joke of a franchise. Do something intelligent for once!

you guys thinking Miami made a mistake aren’t up on the situation:

    Marshall:
    – just admitted to having an effective incurable psychological disorder that cannot be mitigated by medication and results in ego mania, lack of responsibility, and completely uncooperative behavior
    – was 2nd in the NFL in drops
    – got hit on the hands five times in the end zone in the last part of last season

Marshall’s best play has gone by…. the Bears are the ones who got taken giving up two picks….

and now Miami has 30+M free under the cap and a BUNCH of picks as of this moment… so either they get Peyton and a couple of receivers, or it’s crazy free agent shopping time

time to get some Corners in the NFC North….
Tramon and Sam better bulk up and what not.
Marshall with an actual QB = Nightmare!

This is a great move for CHI, but don’t forget that the second Moss signed with the Pats they were guaranteeing rings galore.

In all honesty, until CHI gets better and deeper on O-line, you can have every good looking FA out there and still not seal the deal…see the ’11 Eagles team.

Let’s see, Chicago White Sox got rid of Ozzie Nutcase and his Nutty Sons – went to Miami.

Chicago Cubs got rid of Crazy Zambrano – went to Miami.

Chicago Bears got Brandon Marshall from the Fins in a steal.

Miami got Mark Buehrle from Chicago.

I’d say Chicago is batting 3 for 4 vs Miami.

Now get back to your fatty with the tramp stamp that has doubled in size since ’08, and her 2 kids (maybe yours..or not) and your double wide.

Bears could have Jerry Rice in his prime. Until Cutler can win a big game that matters without going color blind, the O-line can protect him and create running lanes, and that aging defense can improve, Bears aren’t winning any division…unless they jump to the AFC overnight.

Wow!! Remember Miami fans blowing up PFT comments sections a few seasons ago when Miami signed Marshall:
    “he is a BEAST!”
    “Super Bowl here we come!!!”
How did that work out for you??

hehehe, this is almost as funny.

You might want to make sure Peyton has a helluva great O line to protect him.

I just have a feeling this isn’t going to end well.

  281. rasta74 says: Mar 13, 2012 5:11 PM

I just wish the Phins would sign a real receiver like Mike Wallace..

    @wtf_seriously
You are right we went off on him..big mistake, he has talent but at the same token he killed us last year with the drops, trouble with the team and QB…good riddance…

  282. shaggytoodle says: Mar 13, 2012 5:14 PM

The Bears get had a WR with off field issues, and now they got another one, BUT I do need to give the Bears credit, I have been giving them grief for not addressing the situation of WR and they finall did. So congrats!

I guess they don’t mind trading all those draft, because they don’t know how to get quality players and develop them.

  283. 69finfan says: Mar 13, 2012 5:15 PM

I am a Dolphin Fan, have been since 1969. I am not pissed. I have faith that the powers that be will make the right decisions for the good of the Franchise. If they get Peyton Manning, which I think is going to happen as I think that’s the only reason they traded Brandon Marshall that will be great. If they don’t get PM that won’t be so good but I still will not be pissed. My life does not revolve around being a Dolphins Fan. I am not defined by that. The Dolphins being relevant again would be great but me being relevant is far more important in the grand scheme of life. Go Fins.

  284. emoney826 says: Mar 13, 2012 5:16 PM

No worries. Jay will throw 95% of his passes to Marshall, regardless of whether he’s open or not. He’s like Brett Favre. He locks in on only one receiver when he has no confidence in anyone else.

Either way, good move by Chicago. I’ve been preaching forever that you guys need to get a receiver, and you finally did it. Too bad your QB is still a tool.

  285. jeziyo247 says: Mar 13, 2012 5:23 PM

I hope manning doesn’t go to the dolphins so they can see how stupid they are for giving up their top WR. You spouse to get the player first before you make moves, there are still teams who say ttheyll do anything to get manning

Big deal. When I think of the good things Marshall has done in his career, all I can come up with is the one game when he had all those catches. That’s it. It’s amazing how everyone gets all excited over someone that has had one memorable game, like Matt Flynn.

  288. moagecu says: Mar 13, 2012 6:21 PM

Dolphin fans that think they stew getting peyton are delusional. Peyton does not want to have to compete with two playoff trends in the same division.

    Marshall’s baggage

  290. madmax80 says: Mar 13, 2012 8:10 PM

    Let’s keep thinks in perspective.

Marshall had 13 TD’s in 2 years for the Fins.

Fins gave up 2 second round picks for him and got back 2 third round picks.

Let’s stop all this talk of the Bears robbing the Fins blind.

    Really.

  291. turnmymicup says: Mar 13, 2012 9:05 PM

Like most dolphin fans after hearing this news I froze in time for about five minutes. Now that my brain has thawed this move really isn’t the end of Phin exsistence. Marshall is hands down one of the most talented in the game today. But its hard for him to keep his head in the game. Some of you say he is the best thing to happen to us. If our offense does better this year we will kno why.

  292. 69finfan says: Mar 13, 2012 9:15 PM

Well said madmax80, well said. As far as being MVP of the 2012 Pro Bowl everybody knows that game was a joke. If it were a real game and defense was actually being played he would have dropped 3 of the 4 TD’s. Lastly by trading him we cleared around $10,000,000 or more in cap room so that we can sign some playmates for PM. Go Fins!

  293. thelastpieceofcheese says: Mar 13, 2012 10:33 PM

    Congratulations bear fans.

You just acquired a great player in marshall.

Last year he caught more assault and battery charges than touchdown passes.

In addition, marshall has been diagnosed with “Borderline Personality Disorder.” You’ll need to hire a full time shrink and a handful of burly orderlies.

  294. uscfan1988 says: Mar 13, 2012 11:28 PM

I don’t know what the Dolphins are doing. You trade your best offensive player possibly to please a 36 year old quarterback with a bum neck? Here is Miami’s offense right now Matt Moore(not going to be much better than last year which was average at best) Reggie Bush(nice story only a decent rb) Anthony Fasano, Davone Bess, Brian Hartline, Clyde Gates, Marlon Moore. Seriously even if Miami lands Flynn(They are not getting Manning) they are at best 3-13 next year. I think Flynn is a downgrade from Matt Moore which is not a compliment Matt Moore is not that good of a player despite what some Dolphin fans think. He was a turnover machine and takes too many sacks most of them were from holding the ball too long. I’m a fan for life but 2 3rd round picks to me is as close to nothing as they could have gotten. It’s not trading Marshall that I hate, what I hate is the compensation. A second round pick and a 4th rounder would have been a lot better.

  295. shaggytoodle says: Mar 14, 2012 2:17 AM

I just heard that Marshall punched a woman on Sunday, so that would explain that low asking price.

Congrats Chi town. He probably wont be able to suit up til week 5…maybe.

Try about 5 million in cap room instead being cleared. Now what exactly are the Dolphins going to do with that you ask? Absolutely nothing.

  297. cluelessdufus says: Mar 14, 2012 6:18 AM

Marshall was good a long time ago but not any more he is inconsistent at times he will put bug numbers 1 game then suck the next the bears need a real number 1 reciever and he does take up 11 million this year hopefully him and Cutler still have that chemistry but i also hope they don’t im a vikings fan so you get it

    Jerry Angelo
    2001 to 2012

    answering questions
    why the Bears couldn’t

Emery acquired one just two minutes.

As a Bears fan, this is such a relief.

I still remember when both Cutler and Marshall were talking about it on Twitter, but I knew that the process of getting them back together is so much more complicated than some random tweets.

    Major props to GM Emery.

By the way, he’s done WAY more than getting Marshall.

He relived Tim Ruskell of his duties. I loved that move. Angelo brought him in for extra cancer. He got Jeremy Bates, Cutler’s old QB coach in Denver, he is having a great relationship with Lovie.

I’m also sick of people talking about him signing only backups and depth so far during free agency.

The Bears were 7-3 last season before all the injuries occurred. We missed out on the playoffs last season due to lack of depth.

Guess what…Phil Emery is taking care of that too.

I’m not going to grade him on this years NFL Draft, because he said that he hasn’t installed his system of scouts and selecting players for this season, but will start next season.

So far, gets two thumbs up.
