As a Cards fan, I laughed at the fact that Harbaugh threw to Moss when he worked out, not Smith. Now I know why Harbaugh stays with Alex Smith as his QB. Ego only. Harbaugh has to be the best QB in the room. And some people thought the Niners would make a play for Manning? No way, not with Harbaugh there. He can't have any QB that may challenge his knowledge of the position. And Smith certainly fits that role.

@tomossriceenoughsaid

I am pretty sure that the 9ers will do well in that weak division. The only hiccup as I said was the chance Manning signed in Zona.

I think that the NFC west is least likely to have a wild card team.

While the salary is is low and all, it just doesn't make sense the guy wasn't the answer in Minny. or Tenn. as many thought.

I doubt he will be this time.

2 points.

1, I don't see how Arizona can afford Manning after the huge contract they just gave Kevin Kolb just last year! If they do, they won't be able to afford anyone for him to throw to. Fitz can be in triple coverage, and everyone else on the field will stink. Win win.

2, it can be argued that QBs can make the receiver, but the receiver can certainly make the QB. People say Smith can't throw the deep ball, but who was his deep threat? Whenever he could get Davis to break free, he got the deep ball done. And he hasn't had anyone to throw the jump ball to either. Without Megatron, Stafford would still be good, but dude, he might as well be underhand-lobbing them out there for him. Moss has height, and so does this Raiders guy everyone is talking about.

Give Smith height and speed and see what happens. And if it doesn't work out, we will finally have the answer to the Alex Smith conundrum. He will have the same system, and the tools needed. Won't it be nice to have that monkey off our backs? Just ask Steve Young :-P

Manning cant do much if hes on his back and having to impersonate Vick. Not in his wheelhouse. Actually the biggest obstacle for Manning if he goes to AZ would be SF's D. He gets to play them 2x's a year. He better pray that AZ's Swiss cheese Oline can protect him if he goes there.

Love all the nay sayers. The 9ers FO will demonstrate yet again that they know what they're doing. Haters.

peepeetoucher says:

Moss also can earn up to $1.5 million in incentives tied to playing time, receptions, and qualifying for the Pro Bowl.

I don’t get the pro bowl incentive…Pro Bowl is really a popularity contest not necessarily the best player at that position, so it shouldn’t be tied in to any contract. Some get to pro bowl on rep alone not always by playing well that season. Why would teams agree to that?

you may be mistaken this with the nba all-star game, the nfl pro bowl voting is fairly accurate

So #1, #2, and #3 for TD receptions have all played for the 49ers.

I think TO is real jealous and Jerry Rice is real pissed.

Huge pick up. Prediction:

118 catches
1944 yards
36 TDs

2 rushes
89 yards
2 TD

1/1 99 yards 1 TD 0 INT

I don’t know if Alex Smith will be able to keep Moss happy.

The 9ers haven’t had much luck with WRs lately with the likes of Edwards, Ginn, or Crabtree.

The biggest obstacle that would not allow the 9ers to not win the division would be Manning going to Ari.

ted ginn was not brought in as a wr, he turned out to be one of the best return men in the league... crabtree is solid, he is surehanded other than the nfc championship jitters, edwards definitely did suck lol, but it was a lowrisk contract... even with manning in AZ the niners win that division with 12 plus wins

@sicklife1

I would worry but there is the draft too which has a few good options at WR.

2 of their top 3 picks very well could be at WR.

Personally if I were Harbaalke I would pick Fleener at 30, then Streeter from The U the next round, then later in the draft get Wylie for his slot potential.

They may have assumed no financial risk, but if he doesn't pan out & this is their only FA move for a WR, they are in the same situation as last year & won't be making it to the SB.

The only difference is the 49ers spent most of their money so far taking care of their own. Oakland A's would have let them walk and brought up the next prospect.
