So far, only Bucs have scheduled visit with Carl Nicks

The Buccaneers are in the thick of the Vincent Jackson pursuit, ostensibly vying directly with the Chargers.

They’re also the only team that has so far set up a free agent visit with offensive guard Carl Nicks, according to Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times.

A deal with Jackson is believed to be close. The fact that no other teams have scheduled meetings with Nicks suggests the Bucs are also the early frontrunners to land this year’s top free agent offensive lineman.

Signing both Jackson and Nicks would give the Buccaneers two of the top players on PFT’s Hot 100 list.

Davin Joseph and Carl Nicks would be the new “best guard tandem” in the league

well the DO have a lot of money 2spend and have a pro bowl guard anchoring your line with joesph zuttah and trueblood would be good not a bucs fan here but go get em tampa!

I guess if your front office and scouts suck too much to draft wisely, steal em from other teams

I love how they are going after these Free Agents………. FINALLY!

Until I see we actually sign these people… I am going to be doubtful it happens

Ben Grubbs is visiting the saints tomorrow if that is any indication.

If the Bucs get Vincent Jackson and Carl Nicks, look out in the NFC South. They will be improved, especially if they get Finnegan and some other pieces to help on defense. Saints are going to be on the downfall after the bounty situation and Brees contract situation and the Falcons still need alot of help on defense.

Nicks, Zuttah, and Joseph is potentially one of the best interior O-Lines in football.

I would hope that Coach Schiano and his staff would at least have Vincent Jackson visit Tampa and meet with him before handing him a $75 million check.

Jimmy….. really? That comment is probably the most moronic comment that I have ever seen on my years of keeping an eye on this site.

Isn’t that the whole point of Free Agency? That’s why the NFL is so popular. The Eagles and the Skins are known for this, and if you look at the players on the Buccaneers for the last few years, they have had more starters on their team that they DRAFTED or picked up Undrafted FA’s than any other team for the past few years. They dumped all their top players a couple of years ago, and started over…

It’s not theft, JimmyWalker, it’s free agency…I’m sure your team has never signed one or two of them before, right?

  14. snaponrules says: Mar 13, 2012 7:07 PM

They are the only team that can afford him. He wants to be the top paid guard in the league.
I am glad my team isn’t wanting to waste that much money on an inside lineman.

With the new cap floor of 90% and then 95% of the cap has to be spent coming into effect next year, Tampa has to spend money. Now is the time to overspend for the top talent. Get Nicks, and please consider dumping Trueblood and going after Winston and all of a sudden we have the best OL in the league. The game is still won in the trenches.

    Thanks for everything Carl!

Not so fast. Saints are bringing in Ben Grubbs for a visit. Evans and Grubbs > Nicks and Joseph.

Nice to see the Vikings taking their usual approach to FA: sitting on the sidelines watching all the great players available sign with other teams, then we’ll pickup all the has-beens and never was’s when the good players are gone, and listen to that maroon Spielman talk about how those players “were the top targets we had all along”. Hello #1 pick next year.

  19. tropboi11 says: Mar 13, 2012 7:33 PM

This will be big for the Bucs, I hope they still have a chance to get Lofton

  20. maxvain says: Mar 13, 2012 7:33 PM

Do the redskins have cap space or not?

What is the outcome of the 36million dollar retraction for the League Office?

Are they signing FAs as if they still had the 36million or are these signings within their revised cap space?

    Thanks

Does the penalty from the league prevent the Cowboys from going after anybody? Haven’t seen them mentioned in any post for any player yet. With Washington being so aggressive, the ‘boys are looking at an awfully long season.

Actually the chargers didn’t want him.

Vikes need OL help – even after adding Kalil, and Ben Grubbs needs to be pursued at least! Gonna be tough convincing decent players to come here this year, unless we “over pay”.

Actually, any team that lets a player go to FA “doesn’t want him…”
