Eric Weems is leaving Atlanta for Chicago.
The Bears have announced the signing of Weems, a receiver and return man who has spent his entire five-year career with the Falcons.
Weems hasn’t made much of an impact on offense during his time in Atlanta: Last season he caught 11 passes for 90 yards, and both of those numbers are career highs. But he provides depth at the receiver position, where the Bears also just traded for Brandon Marshall, and he’s a good special teams player.
Last year Weems returned 24 kickoffs for a 23.5-yard average, returned 32 punts for a 9.8-yard average, and had 12 tackles in kick coverage.

Overrated returner, but underrated special teams cover man. Possibly was underutilized as a receiver in ATL. As far as returns, yes, he’s explosive, but he makes a lot of bad decisions (when to field the ball vs. let it bounce).
The trading of Hester in the works?
This may be in resoponse to Johnny Knox’s recovery time.
Weems isn’t a replacement for Hester. He’s more like a replacement for Garrett Wolfe.
Very very happy that the Falcons are finally rid of Eric Weems. Every single game I watched him play he made at least 1 critical mistake. Addition by subtraction.. Good riddance!
