Right on funkylovemonkey, I (almost) totally agree. I'd only argue that you make a similar mistake by calling our front five "the worst Offensive Line in the NFL". With the limitations of our receiving corps this year, AND attempting to stay within himself this year, Alex frequently held the ball way too long. There's a reason he threw the fewest int's last year -- he was hardly ever willing to take a chance. Other great QB's do -- eg Eli Manning: he WOULD have been intercepted in the NFC Title game but for the freak accident that both Goldson and Brown had a bead on it and knocked each other out of the play. He's not only highly capable, he's willing to take chances. You just hope that there's more big plays than interceptions.

Harbaugh needs to be more careful IMO:

Lloyd and Moss are not locker room types and both are quick to voice their concerns when not getting their allotment of throws.

Neither is a good blocker. The OL is built to block on running plays.

Are the Niner's now becoming a passing team with Alex Smith? Both Lloyd and Moss like the deep ball. Probably Alex Smith's worst accuracy is his deep ball.

In my estimation TO would be a better fit than either of these two. He blocks and he will go over the middle much to Alex Smith's strength.

Who the F is going to throw it?!!!! Many millions being spent on wr’s when the qb only threw 17 tds. Worst qb in the league hands down. Make a play for Flynn at least.

------------------------------------

Really? Worse then Gabbert or Painter? Or Skelton or Ponder? Apparently all you care about is the TD stat, but even then Alex Smith was ranked 17th, which means there were at least 15 QBs with significant starting time who had fewer TDs then him.

But as far as completion percentage, he was rated 11th in the league. He had the fewest interceptions in the NFL. And don't forget that during the playoffs, when defenses come together and have a tendency to stifle opposing offenses, Alex Smith had 5 tds and 0 ints. All the while he has had no support from his WR corps who consisted of Braylon Edwards who was injured for much of the season and never seemed to get open, Crabtree who was injured for the first part of the season, Morgan who was lost for the season during the Tampa game, and Ginn who's talents are in the return game and that's about it. What's more, because he was behind the worst Offensive Line in the NFL (giving up the most sacks of any team in the regular season) Vernon Davis, the most dangerous target Smith has, spent most of the first of the season blocking just to keep Smith upright.

Smith might not be elite or even great, but saying he's the worst QB in the NFL is just silly and invalidates your point. By every statistical measure he ranks in the middle or higher among QBs, and considering that during the season the 49ers put the ball in his hands many times to win it in the fourth quarter, including against a red hot Saints team in the playoffs, and he came through most of the time maybe means you should cut the guy some slack.

No use in talking about Colston as he has resigned with the Saints. I'd GREATLY prefer Mike Wallace over Lloyd but maybe Harbaalke (yes, i'm stealing someone's nickname for them) doesn't want to give up the 1st round pick? If we're indeed not going after Manning then I think we should at least be talking to Flynn in case Alex flakes out. I don't know about Kyle Orton.

Moss, Crabtree, and Lloyd (and lets not forget Vernon) have pretty substantial egos. Is there enough room for them all to get their share of the ball? All of those players will want something close to 1000 next year. It's doubtful that Alex could deliver, and likely that one and maybe even two could be the odd man (or men) out. Schillenz might be a better option, at least he'd be comfortable in a #3 role.

Brandon Lloyd would be a good pickup for us. Upgrading that WR core after losing J. Morgan... Would love the offense were building. Gore, V.D , Walker, Crabtree, Moss, Lloyd.. having some weapons would really Help Alex Smith. But I'm still holding out hope for Manning , I know its a long shot. But you never know... Gotta resign Tedd Ginn , he was a key giving us great field position on returns...Should spend that first round pick on Fleener or someone that can help right away. Glad to see our 3 key D free agents back. Rogers, Goldson, Brooks. All 11 STARTERS back ! Start of perhaps a legendary Defense ! Keep up the great work Harbaugh and Baalke. Us Ninerfaithful believe in you 2!

I live in the Bay Area, so I've seen both teams a lot (well, not really considering the Raiders are blacked out half the season, but whatever). Chaz Schilens has shown flashes of greatness when he's on the field. However, he's on the field so little due to injury that it's impossible to see if its just glimpses or reality. Hopefully we'll see soon enough by him staying on the field healthy.

These diva WR's the 9ers are looking at n could possibly have is a but scary, not gonna lie. but if Harbaugh can take these men and make them into co-exist with each other 49ers will be a legit contender for another superbowl run. All 11 players are back in defense and 9ers adding weapons on offense for Alex whenever he decides to come back. And we haven't even hit the draft yet n its looking great. I feel bad for the NFC west teams. No chance in helllll to be top dog.

Yeah, that was definitely a weak point. Many will point to Alex Smith as the problem in the passing game, but it's a two way street and no one can deny that it is a lot easier for a QB when he has talent around him.

The only thing that is strange about this is that Llyod and Moss are a little too similar. But with them on the outside, and Crabtree out of the slot, it could work.

Kyle Williams will no doubt be the fourth, and Ginn can do what he was born to do, return kicks and sit on the bench.

its either SF or NE for Lloyd. i think he will sign with NE, but if he does sign with SF its Moss, Crabtree, Lloyd and Kyle Williams. thats a solid group that still would likely add another via the draft. Schilens is intriguing too, tremendous upside if he can stay healthy.
