Free agent cornerback Eric Wright is heading to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Wright, who played last season with the Lions, has reached an agreement with the Buccaneers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
The contract is a five-year deal. There’s no word on the financial terms.
That’s a disappointment to the Lions, who were hoping to keep Wright in the fold. But there wasn’t much of a chance of the Lions out-bidding the Bucs for his services, considering that the Bucs are loaded with cap space and the Lions are in a precarious cap position.
Wright spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns before heading to Detroit last year, and he started all 16 games for the Lions. He’s expected to be a starter for the Buccaneers as well -- especially if Aqib Talib’s off-field problems make him unable to play.
