Seahawks cut cord on guard Robert Gallery

Seattle Seahawks v Arizona Cardinals Getty Images

Rick Smith, the agent for Seahawks guard Robert Gallery, revealed on Twitter late Wednesday that the club has informed Gallery of his impending release.

The Seahawks confirmed the move minutes after Smith’s tweet surfaced.

Gallery turns 32 before the season and was due a $5 million base salary. The transaction saves the Seahawks roughly $4 million in cap space.

Gallery signed a new three-year, $15 million contract last July, but only lasted one of the seasons. Seattle has shown interest in offensive linemen Steve Hutchinson and Frank Omiyale in free agency.

Hutchinson was at the Seahawks’ facility on Wednesday.

    What an incredible BUST.

  3. mwcarolina says: Mar 14, 2012 9:26 PM

Redskins, sign this guy, we need help up front and he played both guard and tackle. wouldnt hate it if they got him.

  4. berniemadoffsides says: Mar 14, 2012 9:26 PM

As a Giants fan, I’ll always be interested in this guy because of that 2004 Draft. Half of us wanted Eli, the other half wanted Gallery… and a smaller minority wanted Winslow or Sean Taylor.

I’m obviously glad with the choice we made, but I still want to see him in NY blue.

  5. chiefwhirlingdervish10 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:27 PM

That picture looks like some poor soul had to tell him in person…

  6. cuda1234 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:27 PM

Is that Gallery or Jack Nicholson from The Shining?

  7. spellingcopfather says: Mar 14, 2012 9:28 PM

Guy is a loser still remeber when (my) raiders took him over that star WR for Arizona, top 10 worst days of my life!!!

  8. JackLeone says: Mar 14, 2012 9:28 PM

The heading should have read like this: “Robert Gallery continues to lose” Yeah. That’s more like it.

  9. surrealp says: Mar 14, 2012 9:28 PM

You mean Robert “False Start” Gallery.

  10. seatownballers says: Mar 14, 2012 9:29 PM

Dude just couldn’t stay healthy. Looks like Hutch is coming back

  11. kuantan97 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:29 PM

Gallery’s career is a tale of irony. He was supposed to be the one “can’t miss” prospect taken in the great ’04 draft. Sadly for him, he was drafted by the Raider’s at the height of Al’s senility.

  12. mrcosio says: Mar 14, 2012 9:29 PM

Remember last offseason when every Seahawks fan was gloating about taking the Raiders “best” coach, “best” offensive linemen, and “best” receiver?

  13. jigwig13 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:30 PM

I thought he was a tackle…but if he’s good I will take him on the niners for cheap since we lost our starting guard

  14. peytonsneck18 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:31 PM

Does he have anything left in the tank? I know he’s been injured alot

  15. seeptermean says: Mar 14, 2012 9:31 PM

I still remember when multiple mock drafts had the NY Giants picking him 4th overall.. THANK GOD THAT NEVER HAPPENED!

  16. illad3lph1a says: Mar 14, 2012 9:32 PM

Yup only way they cut him is to bring back hutch. It’s a done deal with hutchison

  17. norcal031 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:32 PM

The human turnstile gets cut. I missed hearing holding 76 offense in Oakland this year. Do the Robert Gallery. Line up infront of someone and just twirl around in a circle!

  18. nygsbchamps4 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:33 PM

Another one of Al’s bust. I loved you, you went to my high school, but you got so many of these wrong!

  19. nflfollower says: Mar 14, 2012 9:33 PM

This guy turned out to be a decent guard, but at 32, it will be interesting to see what his value is in free agency. Probably not a whole lot….

  20. raiderlyfe510 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:33 PM

    Wow how shocking.

As if we couldn’t see that coming from miles always last year.

  21. souldogdave says: Mar 14, 2012 9:33 PM

He never was any good with those little arms. Was glad when he left the Raiders.

  22. We'reFineThere says: Mar 14, 2012 9:34 PM

  23. thetooloftools says: Mar 14, 2012 9:34 PM

i just wanted to leave a message so somebody thought somebody might care.

This guy could have been a STUD if he would just focus.

  28. kegpack says: Mar 14, 2012 9:42 PM

  30. waltdawg says: Mar 14, 2012 9:42 PM

    Guy is seriously just nasty….

  31. oakraid says: Mar 14, 2012 9:44 PM

I think it was that clown Mayock who dubbed him “the safest pick in the 2004 draft”.

I guess it is safe to assume Mayock was wrong. Feet too slow to play tackle, and not strong enough for a guard.

  32. uscfan1988 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:45 PM

Interesting he is a decent guard. I’m sure he will catch on somewhere.

  33. war27 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:48 PM

    Oakland for 2mil Robert?

  34. 69jaredallen69 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:48 PM

How long till we hear report he is going to be a Viking? Roster swap

  35. cliffordc05 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:49 PM

I don’t care if Steve Hutchinson has one leg because he will be an improvement over Gallery. I was all in favor of the Gallery signing last year but it simply did not pan out. Cut your losses and move on.

  36. mbart82 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:50 PM

Haha maybe the Vikings can pick him up!

  37. jpb12 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:53 PM

Does this agent have all the injured guards in the league?

  38. nasirsnotions says: Mar 14, 2012 9:55 PM

    Make the move Niners.

  39. haystackbadboy510 says: Mar 14, 2012 9:58 PM

    Well that was quick

  41. alyopal69 says: Mar 14, 2012 10:03 PM

Lookie hear lookie hear. Hey Mr. Canvas what happened to sitting next to your Daddy the cable guy. All that loyalty to a man who now can not even save your nalgas. Lesson learned? Your loyalty should have been to the organization that stood by you even though you were drafted as a LEFT TACKLE and you never lived up to the expectations of a LEFT TACKLE and were moved to guard where you did excel to some extent. I hope that there is some gears churning in that head of yours and you realize how good you had it here in OAKTOWN. Hind sight is a Mother#*!K3R. We might take you back, if Big REG is kind enough he will pay you the league minimum for your services.

Remember when Seahawk fans were so pumped about overpaying tremendously for Robert Gallery, Zach Miller, & how about Tom Cable & that stellar line that he was going to implement? Raider fans everywhere thank you

  43. ravenator says: Mar 14, 2012 10:06 PM

    Welcome to Baltimore Robert.

  44. hawkforlife says: Mar 14, 2012 10:07 PM

Too bad. I had hoped with Tom Cable he’d know if he was worth the price last year.

  45. vikingdoode says: Mar 14, 2012 10:09 PM

    hope not…..

  46. tdk24 says: Mar 14, 2012 10:10 PM

So Cable, how’d that “revenge” signing work out for ya?

  47. jigwig13 says: Mar 14, 2012 10:10 PM

I thought he was a tackle…I know in the beginning of his career he was labeled a bust…but if he got better I would take him we need to fill a hole on the o line because we lost our og…unless there’s another stud out there…go niners

  48. AlohaMrHand says: Mar 14, 2012 10:17 PM

talk about never living up to expectations.

  54. seahawks4lyfe says: Mar 14, 2012 11:03 PM

Good riddance I won a bet with myself, for one he’d get hurt and they’d let him go at the end of the year

  55. chikiboy says: Mar 14, 2012 11:24 PM

    Raider fans are funny…

How’s Aaron Curry working out? We Seahawks fans got good laughs seeing him once again getting caught out-of-position on a weekly basis(ie: go back and watch the Denver @ Oakland game).

    Talk about addition by subtration.

At least Cable got our offensive line clicking and our running game was largely effective in the last half of the 2011 season (considering it was mostly reserves).

I will say that Gallery does have a knack for False Start and Holding calls.

  56. snoqualmieterry says: Mar 14, 2012 11:27 PM

Hey Raider fans, you were correct. Gallery didn’t work out for the Seahawks. Let’s see if giving up a first and a second round pick for Carson Palmer works for your team.

  57. tialen says: Mar 14, 2012 11:54 PM

Kudos to the hawks for being willing to admit a mistake (or a bad fit) and being able to move on.

wow, I didn’t see this one coming.

    How’s Aaron Curry working out?
    *************************************************
He’s working out very well, thank you very much.

All he needed was some professional coaching, not some college rah rah loser, who’s only in the NFL because he had to run away from college ball.

Gallery did nicely as a zone blocking guard. Id welcome him back at the league minimum seeing knapp is going to be using the zone blocking scheme again. He kinda owes oakland some money seeing he was way overpaid being the 1 overall at left tackle which he didnt pan out at
