Most teams will go with rookies and young players as backups because they might have a future and are a lot cheaper than veteran minimum guys like this.

Being a former viking means he isn’t burdened by fame when looking for a new career.

First those two young guys had no training camp, no OTAs and no tutors. Their line coach quit before the season started and they struggled but once in shape and getting the hang of it they started really pushing. Yes, two journeymen did a nice job but they were 2nd stringers on other teams for a reason.

You may have a valid point with the one knee injury but if you’re right then we have that hole filled with your journeymen and free agent (Jeanpierre) anyway. Why overpay for a beat up guard?

You move Gallery to right guard and you let Moffat and Carpenter come back slowly from their knee injuries. Hell Carpenter might not be back until mid-season, and God knows how long it will take him to get in shape. He’s your future left guard anyway.

Okung-Hutch-Unger-Gallery-Giacomini with Moffat, Carp, LJP, and McQuistan on the bench? I like it.

Those who say he didn’t want to leave are kidding yourselves, he could have stayed and received almost the same deal just not with the pill. His ego couldn’t handle not being the Franchise player. He could have been, with Walter Jones, one of the, if not the best left side tandem in history.
