Thanks for a record-shattering day

For the first time, the NFL launched a new league year at 4:00 p.m. ET, shifting the first eight hours of free agency from the low-traffic times of midnight until 8:00 a.m. ET.

Thank you, NFL, for doing it this way.

Not only did we shatter the single-hour traffic record, with 634,779 page views in the first 60 minutes of free agency, but we also took down the former single-day mark of 5.288 million page views.

The new record is 5.651 million.

Thanks very much to the 800,000-plus of you who visited PFT on Tuesday and checked out nearly seven pages each on average.  Let’s do it again on Wednesday.

And Wednesday starts right now.  Silva is taking the first half of the graveyard shift, and I’ll be back at 3:00 a.m., give or take.  MDS will join the party at 6:00 a.m. or so.

We’ll then it all going at least for another 24 hours.  Maybe longer.

After all, only 12 of the top 100 free agents have signed.

  1. Thank you guys for the great articles and up to minute news! Been loyal to PFT since the start. I remember back in high school my friends would always tell me I was dumb for reading this site that was “all rumors”. Then they started realizing things that I said actually happened. Then PFT joined up with NBC and became legit. I’ll never leave PFT!

  2. Unless the NFL decides to dock PFT 2 million page views, conveniently redistributing them to ESPN, NFL.com, etc. Seriously though – keep up the good work… and keep stirring the pot. 😉

  3. Thank God FA started at 4 ET instead of midnight. My phone kept me up all night two years ago w/PFT updates every other minute.

  4. It’s probably more like a thousand people refreshing their pages every thirty seconds…

  5. Glad to have done my part. I basically was all over your website all day instead of listening to lecture in my nursing school! Lets plan on doing the same tomorrow…

  6. The NFL is finally giving the football fan what we want. Last year the first round of the draft was in primetime. This year, instead of waking up to news of signing, Goodell gave us a reason to listen to talk radio and to keep PFT.com on my computer screen at work. This is how you keep a fan base that craves football involved with an off season that is nearly exciting as an actual game.

  7. Your Welcome PFT.com, But you are the one I should be thinking, So, Thank You for your news breaking headlines… Man it feels good to be an NFL fan!

  8. I wonder how many of those views were from Vikings GM Rick Spielman? I bet he kept clicking to see who is signing all the good players. Time to crap or get off the pot Rick. We need LaRon Landry along with Lions LBs Tulloch and Levy. Hell, we’ll even take Laurent Robinson too. Spend that $30 mil already!!!

  9. Thank you for all the constant updates whether they are rumors, speculation, or fact.

Enjoy reading the site and getting the pulse of NFL happenings.

  10. PTF is awesome even if you.for no reason delete my coments that don’t have anything wrong or bad in them.

  11. It is a lot easier to support this site when you are reporting news instead of manipulating headlines or taking quotes out of context to generate “news stories” during slow news cycles. The response matched the quality. See, you don’t have to make stuff up to get attention.

  12. Give those hamsters some rest guys. They must have done a lot of work making sure you guys keep posting news on here with the traffic.

  13. You know what I miss? What was that guys name? Something Bill? With the funny photoshopped pictures… Let’s get that going again.

  14. You guys are part of my everyday routine. And this time of year that means checking in 20-40 times a day. This is by far my favorite website. Thanks to you guys for your due diligence on the topics that interest me.

The best thing about your site is that you haven’t big timed us. Even though you’ve went big time, you’ve kept the site about us fans AND made your mark on the national stage.

    Thanks for keeping it real.

  15. Mike, you should come to SXSW Interactive next year. You’re a celebrity blogger who’s in the know on applying tech to reporting. Kind of central to what the conference is all about. Besides, Austin doesn’t suck.

  16. Thanks for all of the info, and thanks for showing a picture of the most exciting team in the league, the Saints.

  17. The Redskin haters can hate all they want… They are probably Cowboys, Eagles or Giants fans or, they are mad they are not getting RG3. The fact is that since Dan Synder has finally let go of the decision making and let his GM Bruce Allen and his Head Coach Shanahan make the decisions the Redskins are finally on the right path. Starting with last years draft, trading down to stockpile picks. That would of never happened if Dan was making football decisions. Trading up to get RG3 was smart and if he is as good as the Skins think the NFC East is in trouble and the haters are just scared of that. Also, today’s WR FA signings were smart, once again. Got 3 solid wr’s instead of one big name big $, older wr. Leonard Hankerson will be off IR this year (he’ll be a pro-bowl wr) and DE jarvis jenkins will be back off IR too. The Redskins are going to be scary this year and the NFC East haters know it. The Redskins are finally doing things right. Thank you Mr. Synder for finally seeing things clearly and letting your GM and HC make the football decisions and just write the checks. Hail!

  18. I appreciate the appreciation Flo. You guys came a long way over the years, and flew past TRZ! I would like to see some more articles about your beliefs on topics in the NFL, but the news/rumors still make me visit PFT all day/every day!

Don’t worry, they won’t do that until 2 years from now

  21. Hey Mike, you guys kicked ESPN’s ass today! Nice work. You guys are on my bar through 2012-13. Keep it up!
