Jets going really hard after … Drew Stanton

Getty Images

The Jets have been willing to make big free agent splashes under G.M. Mike Tannenbaum. They’re not doing that this year.

Their top target looks to be free agent quarterback Drew Stanton. The Jets lost Chad Henne to the Jaguars, and they’re leafing through the likes of Chaz Schilens on the receiver market.

Per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Jets phoned Stanton just minutes after free agency opened Tuesday afternoon. They’ve been courting him ever since.

Birkett would be “surprised” if Stanton didn’t sign with the Jets.

We’d be surprised if he made an impact there.

You didn’t hear… he’s the QB of the future with 3 future Superbowls under his belt.

    stanton > sanchez…..ahaha

He’s possibly the best backup in the league. A good guy to have. Unless, that is, you need a starter

I like the move…..You never know what Drew will bring to the plate!

At this point does it really matter who the backup is? Rex and Co. have made it as clear as daylight that there’s absolutely nothing Sanchez can do to get benched.

My Jets are in a hole and, common sense be damned, they’re gonna dig deeper.

That’s the funniest, most ridiculous headline ever. No one on earth is going hard after Drew Stanton. Mrs. Stanton isn’t going hard after Drew Stanton. Hilarious!

    Go Lions! Go Badgers!

If the Jets get Drew (the Franchise) Stanton, it will be Super Bowl or bust.

The worst part about this is that Matt Millen is sitting somewhere feeling validated…….

  9. klunge says: Mar 15, 2012 10:51 AM

Well he’s no worse than Sanchez, and alot cheaper. Quality backup with good mobility. Not sure what the dig is about with lack of “impact”, what impact are you expecting from a backup QB?

  10. phinfan says: Mar 15, 2012 10:56 AM – After looking at his stats does NYJ actually think he will compete for Starting Job or Clip Board job?

Way to give Mark Sanchez, literally, a run for his money. The Jets cant seem to stop rewarding and chasing mediocrity.

He is the No. 307 overall player on PFT’s Hot 100 list.

    Who’s next, Tim Couch?

He will get playing time because Sanchez will get injured, because Wayne Hunter doesn’t block. With Wayne starting, let’s just quit now.

Borth backup QB’s for Detroit did well when Stafford went down in recent years. Stanton has a good chance of beating out Sanchez and help the Jets.

I think the Jets need to focus on a Tackle more than backup QB. With Mario Williams in Buffalo, Wayne Hunter is gonna be having a lot of trouble. Then again, Sanchez is going to get hammered in the pocket so maybe backup QB isn’t that bad of an idea…

Following a Giants/Pats super bowl the NYJ sign…Drew Stanton!

    Same Old Jets.

Stanton will be remembered for his Dougie attempt and nothing else.

Funny how Stanton is bashed in Detroit and Sanchez gets it from the New York. In reality both are good QB’s despite all these dumb comments. Sanchez problem last year was the fact they didnt have Braylon Edwards. Stanton has showed he has what it takes but given a shot to over he has not. Not saying he needs to take over but be relief for a few games if necessary. I like both but I dont think the Jets has the same offensive line to protect Sanchez. If they was smart they would do what they did a couple of years ago. Build that offensive line from FA guys that didnt pan out on their last team.

    Common sense overrides stupidity…

    Jets have no common sense.
