Manningham visits the Rams

G.M. Les Snead said during Wednesday’s PFT Live that the team plans to explore addressing the receiver position in free agency.  And they are.

A league source tells PFT that Giants receiver Mario Manningham will visit the Rams on Thursday night and Friday.

Manningham, who made a key, 38-yard catch on the game-winning drive in Super Bowl XLVI.  But the Giants, with Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz (who will get a new contract at some point), likely can’t afford to pay market value to Manningham.

Especially with the market for receivers going a little haywire right now.

Still, the Rams desperately need to find more help for quarterback Sam Bradford, one of the rare bright spots on the roster.  The quest begins with Manningham, who also has visited the 49ers.  The Rams also are exploring the possibility of signing Steve Smith, the former Giant/Eagle.

I’m stoked that he left SF with no contract. Let some other team overpay him!

Enter the Rams with what they just did with Cortland…

I wouldnt call Sam Bradford a bright spot just yet. The jury is still out… the guy has been hurt 3 out of the last 5 years. ..

Im still baffled why the Vikings arent looking at this guy, he’s young(which they are going for). DUMB!

It really doesn’t have anything to do with paying ‘market value’. The Giants are set at WR, and Manningham would be coming off the bench … and paid accordingly. He can get starter money elsewhere.

    Why? One play make him
Better than what they got? Save their
    Money.

RAMS fan here. I’ll take him over Steve Smith…

Reaction to Plax leaving NY: Great receiver gone!!!
Reaction to Steve Smith leaving NY: Great receiver gone!!!
Reaction to Manningham leaving NY: Good possible 1 or 2 receiver gone!!!

NO WAY. It’s the qb as the common denominator there. Amendola and former Ram Laurent Robinson are doing well for themselves now (Robinson couldn’t even make the Rams roster). Good qb’s make things happen. Don’t overpay for this guy or waste a top 10 pick on a slow Michael Crabtree light! Blackmon does not high point the ball, he doesn’t have break away speed, he isn’t very big. OVERRATED. Come on Rams! New management and owner. Time to make some good moves!

He will get something crazy, in the neighborhood of 5 years $40 mil.

Manningham is like Peerless Price lite. I would avoid giving this dude big money.

Glad he left SF. Mike Wallace > Mario Manningham. Go get him Baalke!

  12. ramitbaby says: Mar 15, 2012 7:48 PM

Great…because we all know the answer to my teams’ 5-year WR woes is another team’s third stringer.

  13. mialto says: Mar 15, 2012 7:57 PM

    Go to Bears!

  14. djstat says: Mar 15, 2012 8:24 PM

How are teams like SF not willing to sign Wallace and skip out on the 28th pick in the draft

  15. WestCoastVet says: Mar 15, 2012 8:29 PM

    @djstat i dunno either. smh

Bright spots? BUSTford is the worst player on that team.

Love how niner fans bash on the Rams for overpaying for FA’s. The Rams have to overpay. The niners have already signed all the big names like Rock Cartwright (RB) and Randy Moss who didnt play last year and caught 6 passes in 2010.

Giant fan. Not sure about Mario. In his first couple of years he had a rep for being not terribly bright, running the wrong routes, and lacking skills such as getting his feet down in bounds. After four years of playing with Manning, maybe it is Manning who has figured him out and knows where to find him.

On the other hand, he played very well in the post-season. Caught a TD in each of the first three games and made the circus catch and other receptions in winning SB drive. He has speed. Maybe he has figured it out.

Tough call for a GM. How well he interviews (how intelligent he sounds) may determine it.

MM is a very good WR. He gets overshadowed by Nicks and Cruz who are 2 of the top 7-8 WRs in the entire NFL. Its ignorant to say, he’s a 3rd WR, he’s not that good. MM is quick, shifty and clutch. Right there, those qualifications are better than 3/4 of all the WRs in the league.
