Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez says he and receiver Santonio Holmes are on good terms, despite stories at the end of last season that the two were in a highly dysfunctional relationship.

But Sanchez also acknowledged that he didn’t do a good enough job in communicating with Holmes during the season, and he said he has already taken steps to change that during the offseason.

I underachieved,” Sanchez told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “I know there’s some things that I could have handled better with him and our communication.”

But now that they’ve talked, Sanchez says there are no doubts about his ability to work well with his No. 1 wide receiver.

“I know it can work between us,” Sanchez said. “It’s not a question of ‘if.’ It’s a matter of ‘when.’ And that’s now.”

With both Sanchez and Holmes contractually married to the Jets, it had better work now.
