Free agent safety Steve Gregory visited Patriots headquarters on Thursday, and the team moved quickly to close the deal.

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston reports that Gregory has agreed to terms with the Pats. It’s a three-year contract.

Gregory figures to compete for a starting job at free safety, and focus on special teams if he loses out. The 29-year-old did not make it onto the PFT Hot 100 list.

The Patriots have also announced the re-signing of receiver/special teamer Matthew Slater, and the addition of defensive tackle Marcus Harrison.
