Another in a long line of Ravens who sign with another team and will essentially do nothing.How many times have we seen this?

When are these GMs going to learn it isn’t the players that makes the Ravens, it’s the Ravens that make these players.

Yeah Priest Holmes was a horrible pick up for the Chiefs. Plus the Ravens and their 'best in the business GM' have been nails with their awarding millions of dollars to Elvis Grbac, TJ Houshmanzada, and Lee Evans, to name a few.

@darthsaint, I agree completely. Usually when a player talks about wanting to be the highest paid, obviously it's all about money to him and usually...the production after the contract is signed drops off quitea bit. Nicks had some trouble in the past in college thus why he dropped to the 4th rd. he'll still be good but i bet his best blocking is behind him. I just hope the same won't be said for Grubbs

One more point...Nicks played on his rookie 5th round draft contract and never showed late for practice or off-season activities. That with being rated a top 5 guard 3 of the last 4 seasons. So the idea that each year he will want more money based on that years FA contracts, I don't think there is any merit to it. Once again, Bucs got a great player. As a Saints fan...that is NOT easy to admit. =) Wish him ALL the best...except twice a year. Once a Saint always a Saint.

@Turbodog1027

While there are multiple reports that the Saints had concern that Nicks may play differently than when he was hungry for his big dollar contract. There is no proof that he will be a headcase each year. Bucs got a great player, no two ways about it. Saints offered what Nicks called a respectable offer. In the end, the Bucs had the CAP space to offer more. I do however agree with what several sports writers have pointed out. Does 5-6 million make you ok with playing on a losing team? Waltersfootball.com actually showed some decent arguments to their point that players that sign only for money and not winning, tend to fall off considerably. I am not saying that happens...but it is food for thought.

As for Grubbs, he was always on the radar. I think the Saints knew all along that if Nicks didn't sign when offered, he'd be gone and chasing top dollar. Grubbs was already scheduled for a visit before Nicks even visited Tampa. in the end, the Saints grabbed the #2 guard in FA to fill their need. It is still a loss...but much better than just losing Nicks and not signing a top notch guard to fill the hole.

Full disclosure: I’m a ‘Skins fan who wanted Grubbs in DC so this may sound like sour grapes. However, anyone who thinks that Grubbs isn’t a significant downgrade from Nicks is deluding himself. Grubbs is good, but Nicks is a beast.

Nicks is great but saints were concerned about how he would play after the big contract. He must have said he wanted to be the highest paid guard in the league a hundred times. What happens in 2 years when somebody signs a bigger contract? Bet he sulks

couldnt agree more..
Its about the team philosophy & coaching..
success in one city does not automatically transfer to success in another.. ESPECIALLY ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE..

just look at SanFrancisco from 2010 to 2011,, same players ,, different mentality..

^^this is why the V.Jackson contract cracks me up.. you think his chemistry with rivers didnt count for that production??

Worry not, Who Dats. I heard that a Brees deal has been struck and will be announced after the so-called "bounty" punishments have been revealed.

This deal with Grubbs should let the haters know the Saints will be contenders AGAIN, regardless of cap isuses. The league can leak stories they don't have all the facts to back up. They can threaten, and even issue, fines and suspensions. But they will not stop the Saints. If y'all think they played lights-out ball last season...you ain't seen nothin' yet!
