Getty ImagesThe Giants made a significant upgrade at punter in 2011, dumping Matt Dodge and pilfering Steve Weatherford from the Jets.
It paid off for the Giants, with Weatherford putting three punts inside the 10 during Super Bowl XLVI, an all-time Super Bowl record.
It also paid off for Weatherford, first with the one-year, $2.6 million franchise tag and now with a long-term deal.
A league source tells PFT that Weatherford has agreed to terms on a five-year, $12.75 million contract. The deal contains $3.25 million guaranteed.
And so Weatherford becomes the third of 21 franchise players to sign a long-term deal, joining Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson and Colts defensive end Robert Mathis.

I suffer from Post Traumatic Dodge Disorder.
See what happens, Matt Dodge, when you don’t kick it to Desean Jackson.
this guy is a very important part of that superbowl win. The Pats were constantly starting with bad field position.
best move ever. weatherford can fill in at safety if need be.
And it was really 4 punts inside the 10… a Giants cover guy misjudged a bounce and overran the ball, letting it reach the end zone.
Matt Dodge was a poor decision, no question (one of Reese’s few)… but the Giants now have a worthy successor to Feagles.
Steve deserves every dollar from this deal. It was great seeing him bursting with excitement after the San Fran game. For someone that came so close to the big one 3x he definitely earned his ring.
Thanks to Matt Dodge, I have never been this excited to re-sign a punter in my life.
Hey Mike Westhoff (Jets ST coach), how you like Weatherford now?
What do Matt “Doge” and the Vikings have in common?
Both are missing a D!

Giants now need to sign the guy who was constantly downfield, to keep those balls inside the 19 yd line, Devin Thomas. Ya think, with 4.34
speed?
