As a NY Jets season ticket holder on the fence whether to renew or not it’s great to see the front office address the team’s biggest needs.

I have been trying really hard to stay positive in my comments on PFT. I have cut back on my comments 10 fold, easily.

Why are the Jets doing this? First it was Sanchez’s huge contract that had me swallowing tooth shavings, and now it’s ‘The Jets showed immediate interest in Stanton at the outset of free agency, pursuing him harder than any other team. (By a lot.)’ for Drew Stanton?

Please no more… no more… I can’t take much more of my team squandering their chances of even being mediocre. I just wanna grab Tannenbaum (or Rex if he’s wanting these two QBs) and shake him really really hard and make my best “OMG” face and just yell over and over “WHY.”

Drew can manage a game like a back up should do. he’s just not the prettiest QB you will ever see. The Lions could be in deep trouble now if Shun Hill ends up in ST. Louis.

Stanton is tough, has strong arm, decent accuracy and can run… $1.25M for a back-up of his caliber is a good deal!

You said Sanchez played poorly in the playoffs and the defense carried him. You do realize its exactly the opposite?

They lost bc of poor defense in the 2nd half against the Colts and in the 1st half against the Steelers.

So you are saying a 9TD-3INT ratio, a 60% completion percentage, a 4-2 road record in the playoffs, and a 94.3 QB rating ranked 7th all time in NFL playoff history is bad? So I guess what you are saying is that all QB’s in the history of the NFL have been bad in the playoffs except 6!

Suggestion-Start following the sport. Step 2 is then come post here. Dont do in reverse order.

I love all the Drew Stanton franchise QB jokes, and after we drafted him in the 2nd round there were plenty of Lions fans who were unhappy with his lack of production … but … I think this is a good pickup for the money.

What Stanton provides for the Jets is a drama-free roll player who does his job as expected. He’s not being paid to be a franchise QB. He’s being paid to help prep the defense for games.

When Stafford and Shaun Hill were both injured, Stanton came in and won games. It was a shock when he played so well. At the end of the season he didn’t try any shenanigans to get traded or get more money. He just worked through the remainder of his contract.

I don’t follow the Jets closely, but I think a low key guy who does his job very well is a good addition to that locker room.

It’s pretty funny to read that the Jets “pursued him harder than anyone else”.

Given that he signed a 1 year, $1.25m contract, I can’t imagine the list of teams pursuing behind them could have been all that long.

Dolphan, you’re right, the Fins are too insignificant to deserve mentioning on here. Especially after trading arguably your best player for below market value.

After the Pats’ most recent (FAILED) attempt to capitalize on the last few years of Brady’s career, The Jets are getting better, the Pats continue to make mediocre-to poor moves (while constantly being praised somehow) and the Fins seem determined to get worse.
