Matt Birk staying in Baltimore on three-year deal

Matt Birk AP

The Baltimore Ravens announced Friday that they have agreed in principle to a three-year contract with center Matt Birk.

Earlier this month, Florio reported that Birk had hoped to play “a couple more years.” The contract arrangement suggests the Ravens will let him do just that in Baltimore.

Birk turns 36 before the season. He has not missed a start since 2004, and is still playing at a high enough level that remaining a starter through 2013 looks like a good possibility.

Hell yeah! LOVE IT! Now let’s get Mathis, extend Webb, and re-sign McClain and I’m happy.

I still think the Vikings messed up letting Matt go, and we fans miss you.

Now I think they just did the same thing with Hutchinson. The two of them are better than the entire 6 combined, they have remaining.

That’s what you get when you put idiots in charge…..

I’m guessing that it is back end loaded with a lot of the money coming later in the contract. Give Birk some incentive to stick around for a few years but give Baltimore the ability to get out of some of the money if his play drops off some more and or they get another, younger, center.

Like this, but he was owned in the AFC Championship game.

4 of 5 O-linemen returning (assuming McKinney is still on the roster next week and they pay his roster bonus). No complaints here. Matty B’s a great anchor for this line and they’ll hold up just fine without Grubbs. Personally, I’d like to see Jah Reid take over Oher’s spot but in time Ravens fans. Can you imagine a day without false starts at every home game…

Clearly I deserved to be called a bum.
I meant to say Matt Birk when he was a Minnesota Viking.

Go back in history. Birk was offered whatever the Ravens were willing to give him. He had a personal problem with Childress and decided a new place was his future. And before you throw everyone under the bus, Sullivan has been a pretty good center.
