Getty ImagesPanthers G.M. Marty Hurney announced Friday that the club has signed safety Haruki Nakamura to a three-year contract.
Nakamura is a productive special teams player who’s been pursuing a chance at more playing time on defense. In Carolina, he could give free safety Sherrod Martin a run for his starting job in training camp.
Nakamura turns 26 in April. He’s been in the league for four seasons, but has never made a start.
The Panthers also announced that they have waived defensive tackle DeMario Pressley.

Awesome name. Never heard of him.
As a Panthers fan, I like this. He couldn’t be any worse than Sherrod Martin, and if he can’t win a starting spot, he’s still a beast on special teams.
Congrats! Hope he has a great career at carolina. One of my favorite Ravens.
Hate to see you go Ruki, but your talent might get you a starting spot and that’s good to hear. Nobody know’s who this guy is but that’s understandable when you play behind some guy named Ed Reed.
I always thought we under-utilized him. He was so quick coming off the edge, he could destroy the quarterback repetitively if he had more shots.
Congrats, Kitties, you got a great safety. I hate seeing him go.
This will end up being our biggest move of the offseason, but I really like it. We seem to be going after special teams aces with what little cap space we have.
Hey Rex what was wrong with this guy? U do realize the Jets need a safety and special teams player.
Rivera is the real deal, under the radar moves upgrading with better skill players. Panther fans get ready for a top 10 defense.
One of my favorite Ravens, he was severely underutilized last year. At least in the 3 years prior he was pretty involved in nickel/dime/three safety packages. Panthers just got a little known gem without breaking the bank as well. Good luck Haruki and thanks for all the hard work you put in with the Ravens. I’ll always remember him back in his rookie season in ’08 pointing out and making sure Ed Reed noticed Reggie Brown about to drag across the middle on Ed’s record breaking INT return vs Philly that year.
haruki, you are my fav football player ever and i luved the ravens cus of u hate to see u go but now u can start regulary ill be rooting for you
