APJim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Rams have agreed to terms with center Scott Wells.
Wells is regarded as a fine NFL center, but the Packers were annually trying to replace him. G.M. Ted Thompson doesn’t usually let valuable players get away in free agency. Wells (6’2/300) is a relatively undersized center and turned 31 a couple of months ago. He was hardly a premium free agent.
Wells made two free agent visits, first to the Titans and second to Rams Park. He never left St. Louis.
He was the No. 95 player on the PFT Hot 100.

If I were a Rams fan I would be SOOOOO Excited. NOT
…and he will never be heard from again….
thanks again for your contributions in GB
Replaceable for the packers, will be good for bradfords development in st. Louis.
Good pick up. Creepy picture.
About time they make their second signing. Manningham, WR Steve Smith, QB Shaun Hill, and have visited but no signings….We nee a WR Badly…….now that Peyton hillis is gone, maybe Cleveland drafts T.Richardson leaving Blackmon to get drated by STL…
My Mock: 1=IND QB Luck
2=WAS QB Griffin
3=MIN T Kali
4=CLV HB Richardson
5=TB CB Claiborne
6=STL WR J.Blackmon
What do you think?
Oh well. Moving on. We all expected GB would lose him.
TT doesn’t sign FA’s over 30 – and if he does, it’s for extremely cheap.
Wells wasn’t going to come cheap. He’s stubborn.
Get a cheaper option in FA or the draft TT.
Leave the Packers, enter obscurity. Congrats on getting paid more to win less.
Just like Darren Colledge.
was never going to nashville cause jeff saturday got that.
Congratulations, I hope the money compensates for never winning another playoff game again.

Rams, I’d bet CLE gets Blackmon. They need a WR worse than they need a RB..
If Konz is available when the Packers pick in the draft, grab him. Spend the rest on defense. Rodgers happy, Capers happy.
And the Rams CONTINUE to ignore their pathetic WR corps…
Lately, the Packers have stopped trying to replace Wells. They wanted to keep him but he was looking for top dollar and the Packers have contracts with Rodgers, Jennings & Matthews looming on the horizon.
He just seems to get better every year. He’s not a marquee player but he’s very solid. I wish he was staying in GB but ‘ya can’t pay them all.
Congrats and good luck to Wells. Provided age doesn’t catch up to him, he should make the Rams happy.

____________
He’s never likely to ever play in another playoff game. Too bad. He can lounge on his couch & watch his former team on the tube in January 2013.
Good call by the Packers…teams can find starting-caliber NFL centers in the draft’s mid to late rounds.
Upgrade over Jason Brown.
Have the Fudge-Packers even done anything in FA? Get waxed in the Divisional Round and stay pat with your group? Isn’t your best defenisve player around 40 years old? You think he can stay healthy again this year – I think he had ankly – knee issues most of the season.
Guys, I don’t have a dog in this fight, but at some point in life, one learns that friends/teammates/whathaveyou, don’t pay your bills.

========================
No. Offseason titles are not what Ted Thompson is after.
Way to go Ted! Lose another person you should have signed, now you got to waste a draft pick & choose another Center. Hey! your first name ought to be Tight Ted Thompson. ( TTT). How about moving up into the 1st round & show you’ve got some kahonies!!
Hope losing Wells is not like the fiasco when they lost Cullen Jenkins
I wonder if you guys were saying the same things when the Rams signed Adam Timmerman.
Thanks for your contribution to the Packers Scott!
Big loss for the Packers. Good luck Scott. Now Thompson needs to find a replacement.
Kahonies???
You should have stayed in school.
I have plenty of faith in TT based on his track record but I believe he has made a huge mistake for the second year in a row.
Last year he refused to re-sign Cullen Jenkins to a relatively modest $5 million a year and now he let’s a Pro-Bowl center leave for a $6 million dollar a year contract with very little guaranteed.
I get the over -30 thing TT but sometimes you have to pay marjet price for quality, especially if you know what you are getting. Wells and Sitton are the anchors on the line and I personally believe even if you draft Konz, we are going to take a huge step back protection wise with EDS until whoever they draft is truly ready to step in full time.
Bad move.
Packers would have been better with him but you can’t keep everyone. Doubt they will draft Konz, at least in round 1. More likely someone in 3 or 4. Good luck Scott unless you play the Pack.

————————————————————————————————————————- umm yeah they signed jermichael finley. they tend to sign there own players, cuz we don’t want to look like the dream team????? and woodson may be getting older but can still play at a high level. i’m not worried, they’ll be back in the playoffs next year.
