Getty ImagesAnthony Gonzalez, the former first-round draft pick of the Colts who has been plagued by injuries, will get a second chance in New England.
The Patriots announced on Saturday afternoon that Gonzalez has signed.
Gonzalez was the Colts’ first-round pick in the 2007 NFL draft, and he showed some promise early in his career, catching 37 passes for 576 yards in his first season and 57 passes for 664 yards in his second.
But Gonzalez was lost for the season in the first game of 2009 and hasn’t been able to stay healthy or produce on the field since then. Since the end of the 2008 season Gonzalez has played in a total of 11 games and caught five passes.

Welcome to the Patriots Anthony Gorganzolla Knees.
We look forward to your next trip on the IR.
Yay! The first Patriots signing whose name I know. We are on to something here!
Great pickup by the Pats, i’m sure it is a small contract, low risk…
Wes Welker v 2.0 if he can stay healthy
Got hurt signing the contract. Out for the season.
Can they just sign Lloyd already?
Not sure I get this one, but we’ll see.
You think they are shopping Welker? They are just not going to pay a huge amount to keep Welker.
This guy isn’t the “deep threat” either… Bill’s keeping us all on our toes, per usual.
Pats continue to look for the 2013 Welker because they;ll cut him loose after this franchise year. “Let’s abuse his body for 1 more year, then show him the door” say Kraft and Little Bill.
BB has a way of getting just enough plays out of guys like this to keep the Pats in contention every year.
Brady: “no, I said I want GOOD wide recievers, not just the same ole’ crappy checkdown ones.”
dlk47823- Be more dramatic you sissy. Every coach uses his players and they’re all selfish about it. It’s the nfl bro.
Now let’s sign Lloyd and begin using him for all his telnet as well.
The Pats sure seem to like white receivers.
He’ll. Most likely get released 4 season starts..bargaining move to get Wes to sign…nobody does it better than B B…. come on BB let’s use these draft picks on ..impact players
Team guy, hard working sob… Stay healthy dudeley Von dudenstien
Let Brady’s wife hire the receivers. Maybe she can find someone who can catch an EFFING ball.
Really surprise they haven’t made a move for Mike Wallace

C’mon Pats fan, I thought Edelman was Welker 2.0. Also, don’t you still have Woodhead on the roster?
Pats will slide soon.
@seaner44
Yes because if this guy stays healthy he’ll be a perennial Pro Bowler and will be on pace halfway through next season to shatter Jerry Rice’s single season receiving records
Nice signing.
New England might as well lit that money on fire. Dude can’t stay on the field for anything…
Loved the comment about him hurting himself signing the contract!
This guy hasn’t played a meaningful down in 3 years. What exactly does he have left after all the leg injuries?
Hope there was very little signing bonus or workout bonus. Doubt he even makes the team.
well that should help them not win since getting caught cheating.
“pats will slide soon.”. How many years have you been saying that? I’m sure you will be right one of these years. Not this year, though.
Patriots will never win another SB the only person they want to pay is Tom Brady, Wilford lucky he got his.

Battle Cry of the haters since 2001.
Keep dreaming.
No, the Pats like players that catch more than they drop. I didn’t know that was a black or white thing, thanks for letting me know.
He’s a low cost, no risk signing who the Pats brought in for a look. He will be a long shot to make the roster outta camp, but with no risk involved why not bring him in for an extended look?
He will make the roster alright. He just needs to make a play or two a game to serve the purpose he is there for.
Won’t start 5 games. It good to have bodies I guess.
Very krafty Belicheck… (See what I did there?) Looks like the dark horse team for Peyton Manning just showed their hand. Gonzalez: Appeasement signing. The real question here is- who will start, and who will be the backup qb?

lol yea i heard dallas clark will be visiting new england too…then we just need to get addai signed and we’ll have colts east in place with manning backing up brady
Pats sure seem to like white receivers.
His father is from Cuba.
But please keep interjecting race into sports, there’s not near enough of that.
Manning backing up Brady? Thats rich:-)
Well one thing’s for sure…I don’t expect a McNabbian level drama between Edelman and Gonzales for #11.
