CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reports that the Oakland Raiders hosted cornerback Shawntae Spencer for a free agent visit on Friday.

Spencer, 30, was released by the 49ers on Thursday. He would add veteran depth to a secondary lacking it aside from Friday acquisition Ronald Bartell.

Spencer was a 16-game starter in 2009 and 2010 with San Francisco, before falling out of favor under Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff in 2011.

Raiders desperately need CB and LB help! I do like what I see from our new GM. Raiders are on the upswing!!!

That’s what I’m talking about Raiders. Keep briniging those corners in to find two solid not flashy starters. I like this new mindset!

not a bad decision if they do sign him.

Id be alot more excited about 26 year old Tracy Porter. Not that I dont like Shawntae Spencer. Spencer probably comes cheaper than Porter due to age & performance. What about former Packer Jarrett Bush or Alan Ball from Dallas.

Keep dragging the cheap garbage into town hoping for a fix.

.500 will be but a dream.

And let the building begin. Nice to see some proven starters jumping on the Nation train. You know these guys will be competing for a spot on the roster. Looking forward to the next addition. Is it me, or do things seem a little different this year?

See, you can still bring in quality corners that don’t cost 10M a year. I hope Oakland turns things around soon.

No, just role players. Oakland has plenty of playmakers. They needs guys that will tackle and do the little things. They already are a .5oo team, Mak will get them over the hump!

Spencer is a solid corner. He had some decent years for the Niners. He’s by no means a #1 Corner as he will give up plays from time to time. But most of the time he plays very well and would even better with good Safety help over top. If the Raiders use him correctly (and not make him go with single Man coverage with no help over top), they could get an effective bargain in Spencer.

I agree alot of good moves being made. Throw out the stock
piling price tags with more smell then substance and bring in some youth for descent dollar with talent.we have always been know to bring in the NFL’s curb kicked players that the Raiders breath life into and they turn up in pro bowls!!! We got yer back RM!!! I do say lets get porter on board and signed first and if not then Spencer would be a good fit. Not a great fit but a good fit. Raider Nation Just Win Baby!!!!
