Mario consistently blows route adjustments, creeps out of bounds on sideline passes (which made the SB catch even more amazing) and comes across as a dumbass. You could chalk up my opinion as a NYer being harsh or critical, but you’d be wrong. The Giants aren’t stupid. If he was a #2 WR…they would have kept him.

Unless you are a Giants fan (which I’m guessing you are not), then it is probably hard for you to fairly critique Mario, simply because you haven’t watched him play enough. I can’t critique the play of Sam Bradford, because I have not watched him play.

Speaking as a Giants fan who has not missed a game in the past 10-12 years (on tv, but nonetheless), I can fairly say that Mario does not play as consistently as a true #1 WR should. As I said earlier, he can make the “highlight catch”, but he will REGULARLY drop catches that most NFL WRs will make. This is not “sour grapes”, it is just a fact.

Did I like Mario while he was a Giant? Sure I did. He seems to be a genuinely good guy…simple, but not the kind of guy who is going to get into trouble or be a clubhouse cancer. I hold no ill will towards him, and wish him well. But any fair Giants fan will tell you, he has had his chances to be a starter, and simply put, “he dropped the ball”.

While he can make the spectacular circus catch, he can be unreliable (hands-wise) and disappear for stretches. He is very much like a young Brandon Lloyd (4 or 5 years ago). Let’s see if Mario follows the same career path as him.

That said (and as a Giants fan), I will have fond remembrances of some of his better catches, and not-so-fond memories of some of his more boneheaded mistakes.
