Winston had 7 penalties last season or 0.43 per game.
And he allowed 7.5 sacks or 0.46 per game.

I would not call either one of those a “machine” nor a
“liability”.

If you have a QB that knows how to read defenses, go through his progressions and get rid of the ball in a timley manner, there wouldn’t be a problem. Issue is, Cassel dosen’t on all 3 accounts.

Numbers on pass protection are a little skewed from last year since we lost Schaub and we had a 5th round rookie handing the ball off on almost every play. Even when we threw it ,it was to a RB or TE. Short routes in which didnt take long to develop. He’s a great guy. Loved his weekly radio show, but he was the only OL that I didn’t mind losing. His sacks always seem to come at the worse times. Great for the community and great person. Stud in the zone run blocking scheme.

Yeah yeah, Texans. We hear you that Winston peaked and was the 4th best OL.
We heard similar posts from the Saints when we signed Willie Roaf. Winston is no Willie Roaf but he is going to be better than what the Chiefs have had at RT. He will fill in the weak link on the line.

Good team leader. NFLPA rep. Active in the local community. KC is getting a great guy.
But the Texans fans know he peaked two years ago. Dont be fooled by his age – he’s not in his prime. (I wonder how much $ guaranteed he is getting?) Change of scenery, and being the focal point of a running game may add a few good years.
Similar to the Texans in 2006, he’s part of the “anything’s better than what we got” rebuilding process. So he should be solid in that context. If KC comes back – which never seems impossible in the AFC West, Chiefs fans will likely be able to point to this move.

borisbulldog: You seem to forget BB hasn’t won a SB since Romeo left. Pioli won Top executive in the NFL in 201o with the Chiefs and the Pats STILL can’t beat the G-Men in a SB. Coughlin and BB on staff with Parcels so I guess we see you came away with more leadership skills there.

Major upgrade from Barry Richardson. It’s also nice that we didn’t have to break the bank to sign an instant starter at RT. I like what we’re doing so far Pioli, keep it coming!! Go Chiefs!!

I really like the Winston signing. The Chiefs haven’t had a solid RT since Jon Tait. Going back its been Barry Richardson, Ryan O’Callighan, Damion McIntosh, Kyle Turley, Will Svitek, Kevin Sampson, Chris Terry, John Welbourn and Jordan Black. RT has been an issue since the 2004 season. It should be a pretty good o-line for this season and really years to come. Winston is the oldest one at 28 years old.

LT – Branden Albert
LG – Ryan Lilja (maybe David DeCastro?)
C – Rodney Hudson
RG – John Asamoah
RT – Eric Winston

Penalty machine that can’t pass block. Will be good on running plays but a big time liability on 3rd down.

Look, as a Texans fan, I’d prefer to have him than not have him…but he was maybe the 4th best OL on the team. He got beat and he’d get called for plenty of holding penalties. He’s a good player, and much better than anything the Chiefs had, but the Texans have adequate depth on the line…Butler will fill in nicely. Any notion that the Texans are stupid here is silly…Obviously Jacoby Jones was more valuable to the Texans than Winston…Jacoby freakin Jones.

A quaility person for sure and above average tackle. If there was any knock on him would be pass protection as he did get beat more than you’d like. If not for the cap hell in Houston he’d still be there……
