San Francisco running back Frank Gore said today that he thinks all of the offseason talk about the 49ers’ next quarterback has been “crazy.” And he means that in a good way.
Gore told the Associated Press that it’s hard not to be excited about the prospect of adding Peyton Manning to a team that was already good enough to go to the NFC Championship Game.
“He’s a Hall of Famer, first ballot, that’s all I got to say,” Gore said. “He’s one of the best ever to play the game.”
As the 49ers try to maneuver through a difficult situation that could have Manning or Alex Smith as the team’s next quarterback -- or could have the 49ers missing out on both players -- Gore said he thinks coach Jim Harbaugh and G.M. Trent Baalke will get it taken care of.
“I know coach Harbaugh and Trent Baalke feel good about what they’re doing,” Gore said. “They know what they’re doing.”
Based on what they did to transform the 49ers last year, it’s hard to argue that Harbaugh and Baalke know what they’re doing. But some may question that if they lose out on Manning, and then find that Smith has signed elsewhere, too.
