Once again another black qb being treated like the rotten step child..when will this EVER end. Tavaris was hurt half the year, lost his no 1 receiver and they STILL almost made the playoffs! Matt Flynn will NOT beat out Tavaris, and even if he is given the job(like most qbs over more capable and competent black qbs) he will still suck! He couldn’t beat out your whipping boy(excuse the pun) Jamarcus Russel who still has MORE talent than half the starting qbs in the league..but thats beside the point. Bottom line, this was a bad move for Seattle, but doesn’t matter to me I’m not a Hawks fan but I am a black man, who jus wanted to call BS when I see it(which is MOST of the time on these blogs as it has to do with Black qbs, kinda like ANY one thinking lucky andy is better than RG3? lol, laughable, not a chance).
----------------------------------------------

Anybody else sick of arrogant black people that still pull the race card on everything? ITS THE FU**ING NFL DUDE. Most of their great talent comes from the black community. Mario Williams, Antonio Gates, Andre Johnson, I could keep going. Im a Vikings fan and I can tell you from years of watching this bum, that him being black has NOTHING to do with his repeated benching. He makes horrible decisions and panics in the pocket. The reason he gets so many chances is because he has potential. But he never seems to meet that potential. And...... did you really bring up Jamarcus Russel......? That doesnt show your bias opinion at all... bahhaha. Grow up dude and get in the 21st century with the rest of us.

Are you on drugs????? What decade are you living in? Time to join the rest of us in the 21st century. TJack was given many, many chances in MN and he never got it done. He was kept on long after the fans wanted him gone. And Jamarcus Russell??? You really wanna bring him into it? Yes, he had talent but he didn't want to do the work and THAT'S why he's no longer in the NFL.

And btw, jacka$$, there are plenty of negative comments on this site on white qbs -- Tebow, McCoy, Palmer, Smith, Kolb, even Rothlisberger, Romo, and pretty boy Brady. In fact, I would suggest there's more criticism against white qbs than black. So take your racist attitude and stick it where the sun don't shine.

I don't want him to win any post-season games against the Packers, but other than that, I hope Matt does just terrific!!

I noticed something on the Green Bay sideline during that final regular season game when Matt did so well. I noticed that lots of Packer players got more and more genuinely happy as Matt continued to build up completions and yards and TDs. They were cheering for Matt the person. It made me feel terrific. It made me feel that Matt could easily become a strong team leader ... in Green Bay or someplace else. It increased my respect for Matt because his peers respected him and cheered for him. To me, that was even more important than the yardage accumulation.

Go Matt!!

To the extent Matt has success in Seattle, it shall be another feather in the cap of the Green Bay scouting organization ..... not that there is much room for more feathers in that cap.

From b2n2me: (which is MOST of the time on these blogs as it has to do with Black qbs, kinda like ANY one thinking lucky andy is better than RG3? lol, laughable, not a chance).

On the surface you're right it should be a close call between Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck except in one very important part, durability.

Here are the amount of games that RGIII played in college

2008 - 12 games
2009 - 3 games (ACL injury, redshirted the rest of the year.)
2010 - full season
2011 - full season

Lets compare with Luck

2009 - full season
2010 - full season
2011 - full season
no significant injuries to speak of.

Statistically both very similar, except of course the ability to run. But for a QB the main attribute is intelligence, both show that in spades. Risk of injury is a big deal when they will be the "face of the franchise". I need mine on the field, not in a baseball hat and jacket on the sideline.

I think Pete is making the right move is stating there will be a competition.

Tarvaris has the hearts of the players, remember he was voted captain by the players, he has shown an ability to play hurt and was a human punching bag at the beginning of the season as the o-line was figuring things out. However, he keys on receivers, especially Rice, I thought they were dating the way he would focus on him and no one else. He takes forever to get the ball out of his hands. On average it took him 4.5 seconds to make a decision and throw. To compare Kirk Cousins took 2.5 and Kellen Moore took 2 sec (I thought the Hawks would draft a new QB). The last frustrating thing, I don't think he ever audibled at the line of scrimmage (no huddle only exception). He just went with the play and hoped for the best.

Flynn has only 2 reg season starts under his belt, but has shown great leadership and comfort in the WCO. But he will have to win the job. Proven commodity over the unknown, let the battle begin and may the best man win.

I do like that TJack plays hard and plays even though he was injured. Have any of you tried to throw with a chest injury? The only personnel decision Peter Carroll made was Charlie Whitehurst. We have a very young o line. It was smart bringing in a journeyman QB while the o line improved. Matthew Hasselbeck would have been killed by week two. At worst, Flynn replaces Whitehurst. At best, he becomes a starter. If they both fail, we draft Barkley or Husky QB Price. Dude, get out of the sixties.

Black quarterbacks are no longer a novelty or a rare thing.

Funny thing about playing quarterback in the NFL; teams don't care whether you're black or white. They only care whether you suck or you're good.

If a better quarterback comes along, black or white, your a$$ is GONE. Are you going to suggest that Donovan McNabb was racially discriminated against too?

My friend, suckiness knows no color barrier.

Tavaris was never brought in to be the 'long-term' answer. His contract was two years.
He was brought in so - #1: because PC/JS didn't want to resign Matty H and #2: to lose enough to put us in the Luck/Matt Barkley race, but damn if he didn't go out and win too many games last year, so now we have Flynn.

Seahawks have lots of cap room this year and will not cut TJack. He will be the B/U this year, and one of the best in the league.

He couldn't beat out your whipping boy(excuse the pun) Jamarcus Russel who still has MORE talent than half the starting qbs in the league..but thats beside the point. Bottom line, this was a bad move for Seattle, but doesn't matter to me I'm not a Hawks fan but I am a black man, who jus wanted to call BS when I see it(which is MOST of the time on these blogs as it has to do with Black qbs, kinda like ANY one thinking lucky andy is better than RG3? lol, laughable, not a chance).

You aren't paying Flynn that much to come in and compete.

Good deal for both parties. Seattle gets the most-talked about name in free agency (other than Manning) and a guy who's ready to try and make a name for himself. Flynn gets paid, and if he does well, will get paid a lot more in three years. If he doesn't, Seattle can move on to the next candidate without a deal that eats money off the cap for the next five or six years.

Had Tavaris made better decisions with the ball, or led even one fourth-quarter comeback last season, Seattle probably drafts a project QB and goes into next season with him as the starter. He had his chance, and didn't get it done.

"While I feel for Jackson because he can never seem to catch a break, he really isn’t a good prospect for starter"

Can't catch a break? The guy did nothing for a couple years only to get inexplicably handed a starting job with no competition involved.

That's more of a chance than a lot of guys get. T Jack simply wasn't good enough this year to stop Seattle from looking for a franchise QB.

The pectoral was a tough break but that's really it.

Just like when Matt Hasselbeck came to the Seahawks from Green Bay he had to grow into the role.

Hasselbeck was the QB that took them to Super Bowl.

Give Flynn the starting job and a good supporting cast and the sky is the limit for this kid. :)
