Not only no, but Hell No.

For one, we have out backup QB – Derek Anderson, who excelled under Rob Chudzinski, our O-coordinator. And as goofy and unorthodox as Tebow is, he has earned the right to attempt to be a starting QB somewhere.

For another, the Panthers may be just waiting to cash in. If you say you’re keeping all your RBs when you have too many of them, you can just wait for some team to lose their top RB to an ACL tear in the preseason, then let them come to you in desparation and give you the farm for one of your extras.

Also, chiktikka is right about us going for FAs that can play special teams. Watching our special teams last year was downright nausiating, perhaps even worse than our awful defense. Tolbert will be on the field plenty even if we keep both the RBs.

One other thought: This might be Carolina’s way of sending the message to Cam to stay the hell out of the middle of the line. He runs up the middle and dives head-first so much that everyone is worried about him getting a concussion. Having a battering ram like Tolbert gives them another option for the goal line and short yardage – as well as another passing option – that Cam could stop taking some of those risks.

Not every football player is stupid with their money. After a couple million career earnings, these players should be set for life if they live within reasonable budgets. Tolbert can save his legs in Carolina, be closer to his home, and still have PLENTY of money to live on.

All of Carolina’s signings this offseason have been Special Teams oriented. Nakamura (S), Onatolu (LB), and Tolbert are all ST aces. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them draft a PR/KR relatively high to try to shore up an area that was horribly lacking for them.

Tolbert was descent, but has a fumbling problem. Also, his homesickness can’t add to his NFL future. Once a player would rather be at home instead of practice, it’s over.

This is just a weird decision all the way around.

Tolbert must’ve REALLY wanted to be in the South: he was beloved in San Diego, who made him a star, up from undrafted FA…
less money and probably less carries in Carolina is a really weird choice.

This was a great move for Carolina…After losing Shocky, Tolbert will be able to more than makeup for the loss of receiving production and he is a much better blocker and is capable of putting up 150 yards of offense in a game! Do any other Panthers do that now? NO! Go ahead, trade Stewart…After the Williams-Johnson contract there is no way to keep him next season….well, we could waive D-Lo ….

From a Chargers fan, he’s a good RB-a bruising runner with good hands and solid in pass-blocking, but a mediocre FB who can’t run block consistently.

The Chargers didn’t even know Tolbert was a weapon at RB until LT left and Ryan Mathews got hurt. As for the FB story, he couldn’t beat out Jacob Hester who’s built more as a RB than FB.

Carolina better use him as a RB!

Yo Mike, he is a FB. Best used in GL situations. He’s a stone wall in pass blocking. Has good hands to get those dump-offs and screens. They can use him like Reece in Oaktown. Good job Panthers.
