What’s really interesting is how it only happens with certain comments. Some guys you can thumb up or down no matter what. Other guys seem to have become “untouchables”. You can never thumbs down them, no matter what they post. I guess they found their way into PFT’s “champagne room”.

I was under the impression that Elway has the same handshake arrangement to buy the Broncos from Bowlen and may have offered Manning a piece to get him to Denver.

The Manning’s real and intended manipulations of NFL teams for their own self-interest is appalling to me. Sure one can say that fair is fair and why not go for all they can get. However in my opinion they just keep taking it to the extreme. It is becoming transparent that Archie has a self-inflated echo and is using his sons, apples that didn’t fall far from the tree, to become influential in a way that he was never able to achieve as a player. I’m losing respect for both Archie and Peyton. More by the day. I don’t think I’m alone in that. Money and power seem to be their primary motivation.

The fact that the “job for life” deal may have been futile in the eyes of the NFL, possibly because he’s still an active player, may yield Manning was offered a lower player contract than Denver.

I don’t think he ever was going to the 49ers or any NFC team. I thought it was reported that he does not want to play in the same conference as Eli, let alone the same division. The 49ers probably didn’t offer him as much money as Denver, but the 49ers would’ve been a favorite pick for the SuperBowl. I think what ultimately killed it, ignoring the fact that the 49ers are an NFC team, is Harbough does not want to break up the nucleus of that team and Peyton wants his former Colts teammates around him. Plus, at this stage of his career, Peyton demands full control of the offense and I don’t think Harbough would’ve given Peyton the keys to the car — they are both control freaks. And the fact that Harbough was Peyton’s backup QB might’ve made a hostile situation of who controls the offense and the team. I feel Harbough wants to be the face of the 49ers and not let the QB overshadow him. Besides, what would a backup QB teach a HOF SuperBowl QB in Peyton Manning? It makes no sense and that’s why Denver made the most sense.

Still, I wish he would’ve signed with the Fins.

The CBA states that verbal agreements (aka handshake deals) are not allowed. The obvious reason being that if they allowed handshake deals there would be teams using it to get around the cap (Cowboys amd Redskinds maybe) as well as legal issues when expectations aren’t met.

That scenario could become a powder keg. Most associations that deal heavily in contracts like state real estate associations have similar provisions for similar reasons.
