Jets making “aggressive push” to sign LaRon Landry

Philadelphia Eagles v Washington Redskins Getty Images

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets are making an “aggressive push” to sign free agent safety LaRon Landry.

Likewise, Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports the Jets are “trying to sign” Landry after his Sunday visit to the club’s Florham Park facility.

While the Jets have also shown recent interest in free agent safety O.J. Atogwe, the Landry and Atogwe pursuits appear to be independent of each other. Atogwe is almost strictly a free safety. Landry is an in-the-box strong safety. They play different positions.

Landry is the highest rated unsigned safety left on the PFT Hot 100.

The Jets should be low enough in the draft to get a decent Free safety. I’d go for it.

His foot exam must have been impressive

  4. nowillrepeat says: Mar 19, 2012 3:02 PM

    Overrated.

Should fit in perfectly with the jets

‘Roid rage and Jets team-wide ego?

This guy should have his own Sunday Comics strip if this happens.

Jets will be 7-9 this year as Mark Sanchez’s rein of terror continues.

I don’t know about this guy, from what I’ve read he’s quick to bite on the pump fake, decent at best in coverage and a little on the slow side…not what the Jets need, we already have 3 of those.

Boston Globe reporter Greg Bedard said Landry’s physical with the Patriots on Friday was “iffy.”
    Go get him, Rex.

Chronically injured, achilles is on fire, missed 16 of last 32 games.

I hope the Jets make it happen.

    Dear New York Jets Management,

Good luck. You’ll know why we let him walk after the first time he flexes his muscles and taunts after a 25-yard completion.

    Signed,

    District of Columbia

If the Jet’s get Landry they will regret it. As a Skins fan, I was so excited when we got this kid, but once Sean Taylor died, his limitations were exposed. He has extremely limited range that has only gotten worse as he decided it was more important to have a big upper body than to be able to run well or have range of motion. Landry is also on par with some of the worst in the NFL at reading coverage. The Jets will certainly get an athletic “specimen” that will under perform and not be worth close to his very lofty price.

  17. bearsstillsuck says: Mar 19, 2012 3:09 PM

With his attitude, he’d be a perfect fit there.

  18. cowboyhater says: Mar 19, 2012 3:10 PM

Perfect fit for a Rex Ryan mentality led football team. I’m sure Rex will know how to use him. He wore out his stay in DC from his twitter comments, and just lack of interest in getting rehabilitated with the skins training staff. As for OJ, good luck with that. If you ever hear him talk, you can tell he has lost interest in playing football in my opinion.

    Isn’t Atogwe 99 in Madden?

  20. jolink653 says: Mar 19, 2012 3:12 PM

they should sign him if they’re looking for a new sideline mascot since he spends more time hurt on the sideline…as a patriots fan i was really hoping we would stay as far away from this guy as possible

  21. portnoychunk says: Mar 19, 2012 3:13 PM

Rumor has it the Pats weren’t thrilled with his physical. If they want a guy, they don’t let him leave.

  22. deangelo1776 says: Mar 19, 2012 3:13 PM

If Sean Taylor didn’t pass away, Landry and Taylor were destined for greatness in the secondary. Landry needs a true free safety in order to reach his potential as the strong safety. Being healthy is the other key.

He wore out his welcome in D.C., but I want to see him do well and recover from his injury.

  23. karlpilkington says: Mar 19, 2012 3:14 PM

Boy oh boy the jets are in worse shape than I thought, signing the skins secondary. Good luck with that. Landry has played 6-8 games the past 2 years and has ended the last 2 seasons on IR. OJ missed a whole mess of games last year also. Yes LL is a freaking beast but I believe that is most of the problem. He has no fat on him which hurts in the game of football. Way to much into body building not football. The guy should have had surgery 2 years ago and DIDNT…

SEE YA Laron. Beat your chest after a 20 yard gain somewhere else.

Do you really think if he wasn’t damaged goods the Skins would let him walk??? Take him his act is old and stale in Washington…

You won’t like him when he’s angry…which is pretty common as he is beat deep early and often.

  28. jets4gold says: Mar 19, 2012 3:22 PM

Sign them both.. Ryan would not try to sign Landry if he really thought he could not use him..

  29. skipbayless says: Mar 19, 2012 3:24 PM

He’s in Philly today. Right Now

  34. andreidan says: Mar 19, 2012 3:38 PM

We need safeties badly, but how about getting Leonhard or someone else first? We need a free safety more and this guy is just a stronger and more athletic Eric Smith… No wait… no1 is as bad as Eric Smith.
Anyway, we already went with the physical specimen in Vernon Gholston and we all saw how that turned out…
