Saturday starts his free-agent tour in Green Bay

Amid speculation that long-time center Jeff Saturday is destined to re-join Peyton Manning in Denver, it could indeed happen.  But other teams will get a chance at signing him first.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Saturday is in Green Bay for a visit with the Packers.  He’d replace starter Scott Wells, who signed with the Rams.

Next, Saturday will visit the Titans, who whiffed on Wells and Texans center Chris Myers in their effort to replace Eugene Amano.

Then, if he hasn’t already signed, Saturday will arrive in Denver to visit Peyton’s new team.

Saturday joined the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 1999, Manning’s second NFL season.  Since 2000, he has started all but six regular-season games.

    Just pay him Peyton…

  2. bearsstillsuck says: Mar 19, 2012 7:51 PM

He’s just wasting his time in green bay.

  3. Carl Gerbschmidt says: Mar 19, 2012 7:53 PM

I’m okay with that. Win a couple of Super Bowls with him while we develop a new Center.

  4. dewman13 says: Mar 19, 2012 7:54 PM

Looks like Jeffy went to the Peyton school of leverage!!

  5. rpiotr01 says: Mar 19, 2012 8:00 PM

Great leader, intelligent, still has some gas in the tank. Would love to have him on the Packers, he’d be a great pick-up.

  6. myasylum11 says: Mar 19, 2012 8:04 PM

Won’t happen in Green Bay. Thompon will offer him $5. And then he’ll laugh and be on his way.

  7. packfaninchitown says: Mar 19, 2012 8:05 PM

If Saturday wants another ring he should sign with the Pack…if not go ahead and sign with Denver.

Because he can also play on Defense at a Pro Bowl level right?

  9. indywilson40 says: Mar 19, 2012 8:09 PM

Dewman13, When you’re great, you have leverage. I’m guessing you’ve never had leverage.

  10. jimmysee says: Mar 19, 2012 8:11 PM

In Green Bay, they meet you at the airport in an SUV, not a limo, and take to Carrow’s for dinner, not the Ritz.

Then you take a walk through Lambeau and the Packers Hall of Fame.

If you’re down with all that, you’re Packers material.

  11. ttommytom says: Mar 19, 2012 8:14 PM

Maybe they will give him a signing bonus in Packer Stock. Then he can wall paper his bathroom cheaper than one of those box stores…

  12. scrapingthefloorioforstorios says: Mar 19, 2012 8:14 PM

no way. the guy is 37 in june, and the packers just got rid of an undersized center.

  13. medtxpack says: Mar 19, 2012 8:22 PM

This is exactly the type of FA signings TT is about. Green Bay has to be attractive to a guy like Saturday.

  14. deconjonesbitchslap says: Mar 19, 2012 8:22 PM

packers not signing wells was absolutely the dumbest thing they did all off season

  15. murf17 says: Mar 19, 2012 8:22 PM

Why would he get a ring w the Pack? Does he know the secret to get them past the Giants. NFC is too crowded and he will eventually end up in Denver where he is the best fit

  16. jhtobias says: Mar 19, 2012 8:23 PM

Packers = the San Diego Chargers under Fouts mind blowing offense no defense.. Packer Players who are now 29 years of age you have been warned Thompson will cut your ass by the age of 30… or offer you a contract at 50 percent of your value unless your name is aj hawk of course

  17. tritz32 says: Mar 19, 2012 8:25 PM

    Hey Teddy Boy –

How about we start with what cost us a Super Bowl run last year, a piss more defense. Go get a pass-rusher opposite CMIII in Wimbley and a safety in Bell. Capers would send 6-7 on a blitz and they still couldn’t get anywhere near the QB last year…

We all know he wont sign a big FA though, unfortunately. Haven’t since Chuck…

  18. tangysizzl says: Mar 19, 2012 8:32 PM

Green Bays first official UFA visit, nice. He may not sign with GB but I can assure you that hes not just wasting his time there, TT may not pony up enough dough to sign him but hes increasing the demand for his services.

I think you may have waited too long Mr Thompson. No one was bidding against you for his services last week but now you have at least two other teams to contend with.

Still im happy to see that your actively trying to fill one of the major holes on the roster before the draft. Now you may want to talk to Yeremiah Bell after the Dolphins just released him.

  19. blacknole08 says: Mar 19, 2012 8:33 PM

He’s just making the rounds before he signs with the Broncos.

  20. northshorejag says: Mar 19, 2012 8:35 PM

So he’s going to all these teams to find the highest bidder so John Elway can pay 10 percent more

  21. stevenfbrackett says: Mar 19, 2012 8:36 PM

Green Bay doesn’t grotesquely overpay players like some teams do. He would likely have a better chance of being overpaid elsewhere. And that is where he will go.

  22. mrslay1 says: Mar 19, 2012 8:41 PM

This guy knows how to run a OL which is what the center does. I expect he follows Manning, but if not, get some more Super Bowls! He will go down in History as at least one of the best to ever play the game!

  23. textexington says: Mar 19, 2012 8:42 PM

The Packers are gonna win a lot more Superbowls in the next 10 years. If he wants rings he will sign with the greatest sports franchise ever, the Green Bay Packers. Go Pack Go!!!

  24. emoney826 says: Mar 19, 2012 8:42 PM

Normally, I would agree with all of you. But losing Wells hurt and we need a vet to read the defenses and not get franchise killed. I wouldn’t be surprised if Thompson attempted to sign him. Tell me the last time an “actual” free agent was in green bay? Not lately. It’s always 2nd and 3rd hand scrap. I’m shocked at this current news, so I won’t necessary blow it off yet. TT might just shock the football world this off season.

  25. theycallmehof says: Mar 19, 2012 8:53 PM

Want a headline?..Go with Ted Thompson and the Packers signs SO and SO..That my friends wil make news

Except for the simple fact that the Packers won a Super Bowl.

  27. chazzmichaelmichaels says: Mar 19, 2012 9:15 PM

Don’t care where he ends up, it’ll be 2 years at most. Then on to his next career as President of the Players Association. Top notch guy, bright, tough, he’ll make an excellent player rep.

  28. francheyes says: Mar 19, 2012 9:18 PM

Packer fans are so predictable…u have no lives, you are dormant when football season is over…as much I enjoy saying that favre built your receivers, I enjoy even more that you believe you think you’re gm is the best ever..I remember a few years back when packer fans hated him…just goes to show how much all of you know…cheese, and alcoholism..bask in the glory of absolute pathetic nonsense

hey Indygoob, I’m not an aged center looking for a payday. Your boy Jeffy will never sign with GB. He knows they lost their center and needs to make Denver a lil nervous. So pull ur panties outcha crack and shad up!

“bask in the glory of absolute pathetic nonsense”

Oh really, you mean the organization with 13 World Championships, more than any other team in the league? And when football season is over we root on The Crew which have been a playoff team over last 3-4 years. We also have a top-5 golfer in the World to root for, Mr. Steve Stricker. Nice try though…

Yeah, what does Ted Thompson know? His teams only have 67 wins, 2 division titles, 4 playoff appearances, and a Super Bowl win in his 7 years with the Packers, rebuilding a 4-12 team that was put in salary cap hell by Mike Sherman.

He clearly has no clue what he’s doing.

  35. babyhorsemorgan says: Mar 19, 2012 10:18 PM

Jeff could be the first Saturday in Green Bay history that’s not notable for 36 empty beer bottles, a splitting headache, and an ugly fat person sleeping next to you in bed that you don’t know. Still wearing their hat and shoes.

  36. clemsonpackerfan says: Mar 19, 2012 10:26 PM

That’s a load of garbage, I’ll have you know that when football is over, my cheese and alcohol are consumed quite actively in the name of the Brewers. Bask in the misery of being you.

  38. tangysizzl says: Mar 19, 2012 10:52 PM

Well Ted Thompson has won the Executive of the year award, not once but twice in his 6 years here.

You say Packer fans have no lives yet here you are trying to talk smack when you can barely even form full sentences. You my friend are a moron, and the poster boy for absolute pathetic nonsense. Get bent you little maggot.

  39. nodindenver says: Mar 19, 2012 11:06 PM

We are waiting for another top notch citizen to visit our city. In the past couple of years we have sent Cutler, Marshall, Hillis, and Carmelo Anthony down the road. Today, we added a fine Colt and we expect to do the same with Saturday. Much more to do in our town than beer, cheese, and the waiting for the stinkin Brewers!

  40. ahs2 says: Mar 19, 2012 11:12 PM

So hard to follow when his visits are scheduled, I keep coming away with “Saturday”

  41. trapshoot says: Mar 20, 2012 12:02 AM

Green Bay could certainly use him. Question is will Thompson be willing to pay for a high priced free agent? History says he won’t.

  42. connie75 says: Mar 20, 2012 12:44 AM

I agree, I think Saturday would be a good fit for Green Bay.

  43. cluelessdufus says: Mar 20, 2012 2:12 AM

I hate this since Im a Vikings fan but sign him to a 2 year deal see if you can get a super bowl ring.During that time mabey get Peter Konz the projected 2nd round talent looks like a nice fit and if not signing him grab Peter Konz and start him

  44. eggersthejerk says: Mar 20, 2012 7:06 AM

If the offers are even close he will be playing in Denver.

If he has anything left, Tennessee should grab him.

  45. colt2011 says: Mar 20, 2012 12:58 PM

Hope he goes to Denver. Good fit with his old buddy Peyton (played together their entire careers). Consistent player, no missed games from injury.

Eventually he will go to NFLPA. Knows his stuff. Good rep for players.

  46. wipackman1265 says: Mar 23, 2012 4:13 PM

Good signing because draft will all be for Defense
