With Peyton heading to Denver, Broncos may sign Jeff Saturday

peytonsaturday Reuters

Peyton Manning has spent almost his entire NFL career putting his hands under Jeff Saturday’s backside, and he may continue to do that in Denver.

Shortly after the news broke that Manning has informed the Broncos he wants to sign with them, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Manning and John Elway have already talked about the Broncos signing Saturday, a free agent center who has been with the Colts since 1999.

Saturday had drawn interest from the Titans (who also hoped he could help lure Manning), and the Packers. But the Broncos will instantly become the favorites to acquire Saturday’s services now that Manning is in the fold.

For Elway, the Broncos’ front office boss, there’s always been an offseason Plan A and an offseason Plan B. Plan A included not only signing Manning but also making other moves to put the right talent around Manning. Plan A includes trading Tim Tebow, which the Broncos will now try to do, and it also includes signing Saturday.

If Saturday does sign with the Broncos, Manning will have his longtime security blanked with him in Denver. Signing Saturday is a move that makes too much sense not to happen.

Right on. Denver keeps getting older.

  2. revanslightsaber says: Mar 19, 2012 12:21 PM

Dallas Clark seems like an eventual signing as well. They need a Tight End and Manning would like one of his old targets back

  3. klee0384 says: Mar 19, 2012 12:22 PM

Maybe God’s plan is for Tebow to play center.

The Packers were not aware that you need a center.

Just think Niner fans….you could have really let the Cards fans have it if Manning had signed there. IF, IF, IF. Now, your team has to get on their knees and beg Smith to sign. How funny. I hope Smith signs with Miami. Wait a minute….what am I saying? I hope Smith re-signs with SF, over and over.

Denver is the now the favorite to win the AFC, and I’m guessing they will get a 2nd rounder (and some) for Tebow.

  12. thehusker1234 says: Mar 19, 2012 12:30 PM

Denver will be 9-7, miss playoffs, and SD will win division. Coming from a Raiders fan.

harbaugh & baalke now tell condon to shove it & go with jj & ck. in harbaugh’s system, either one can rank 29th in passing,30th in red zone & 31st in 3rd down eff. like last year. it’s almost impossible to do worse!

  14. flfan says: Mar 19, 2012 12:32 PM

it’s hilarious that the supposed “best QB” needs the broncos to sign former colts players.

    Hey Westclaims

Hope you are not one of those jealous low life’s known as Raider fan. If so you just got buried for three more years. Niners are stacked with or without old man Peyton! Denver was desperate to get rid of young Jesus!

The Broncos just royalty screwed up the future for years to come. Has Peyton Manning been a great player? Yes, of course. Will a 85 to 90% Manning still be a very good QB. Sure, he will. Will he raise the level of play of his teammates to a degree. I’ll agree to that. However, Denver is simply not that close. The defense, while improved, was hardly a shut down unit. The offensive line is shaky, and the running game is relying upon a ready to break down Willis McGahee. The team has a rising young receiver in D. Thomas, but that’s about it on the offensive side. I’m sure Denver will add a few of Peyton’s old buddies, but this is football. No other sport needs 11 guys to all be on the same page. I think people underestimate what it takes to win in football. You can’t just throw pieces together, even a great piece like Manning, and expect it all to click just like that. The Broncos will be in the mix for a division title, but so will every otther team in the AFC West. The addition of Manning does not put the Broncos on another plane in the division.

With that said, HOW IN THE WORLD ARE YOU THROWING ANY SMACK TO THE NINERS??

They are the only team in that division!!

And, you are going somewhere with Kolb?

The niners proved they can move the needle with an average qb (Smith).

your cards team needs ALOT of help, trust me I know……my team, the Vikings were TERRIBLE last year, AND EVEN WE BEAT THE CARDS!!!

Saturday will probably go to Denver now too.

I wonder why Manning didn’t pick San Fran?

I love it, keep hating on the 9ers. Make sure to be around next January and February though.

Alex will be better in 2012 than in 2011. The chip on his shoulder will be huge; we just had to properly motivate him again. Mission accomplished there.

Now the 9ers can go out and get Wallace and Mike Tolbert and they will be stacked.

Oh, congrats to the Broncos. They were my original pick before the 9ers got in it. If Peyton wanted rings he would have choose SF, but I know the 9ers tried to low ball him and rightfully so. He’s a cap killer, but Denver has the room.

I guess Peyton didn’t want to be Bud Adams’ Anna Nicole Smith.

how many Monday night football game does the cardinals want against the niners, last time I checked the niners own Kurt Warner and any qb the cardinals have the past three season on Monday night football… Niners still own the NFC west.

  25. dublindemonszfl says: Mar 19, 2012 12:40 PM

Can they anything for Tebow? The whole league knows they blew the draft pick, his style of play doesn’t work in the NFL. Hey who plays FB for the Broncos?

That crack about 2nd rounder is nonsense, maybe a 6th from team looking to convert him. To a running back not to Buddism.

  26. humbleminded85 says: Mar 19, 2012 12:41 PM

haha at the guy who think 9ers is going to fail because we didnt sign Manning ol azz…. first of all i think in a non bias opinion 49ers will win another ‘ship before broncos w/ peyton………. And Smith can go some where else, but he knows he have to have the Off. Cordi. that implement him… and right now thats in SF… i have no prob us signing Josh Johnson, or starting KApernick for time being……………

  40. aces79 says: Mar 19, 2012 12:50 PM

  41. mwcarolina says: Mar 19, 2012 12:52 PM

I’m guessing they will get a 2nd rounder (and some) for Tebow.
    ——————————————————
i disagree. i dont think they get any more than a 4th round pick for him, teams KNOW that Denver wants Tebow like i want to break my foot. Tebow will be traded likely for a 4th or 5th round pick and if they turn it down, then they say, ok, keep him, we dare you to find a better offer.

As for this story, uh, it’s not a shock, though i wouldnt do it, the Bronco’s pros ARE the offensive line!!! the center is still young, do you cut him now?? move him to guard??? As for the cons, they need to get a TE and i mean a TE ASAP. that was the issue with the Broncos last year, Tebow had no security blanket of a TE and Manning will need another weapon. Dallas Clark makes TOO much sense NOT to happen.

  42. mobuccsfan says: Mar 19, 2012 12:52 PM

Tolbert won’t be happening. He signed four year deal this morning with the Panthers…per ESPN.

  43. killitandeatit says: Mar 19, 2012 12:53 PM

This is all about what Peyton wants. He is now calling the shots on offense. Peyton is starring in his own version of the Apple Dumpling Gang. He will bring in “his” guys and run his offense His way…period. Tebow is now gone and that is a problem for many Bronco fans. I see this as a major circus right now and I’m happy P.M. has “chosen” Denver.

Peyton going to Denver is just two automatic wins for SAN Diego. Rivers OWNS Peyton Manning.

AFC is either ours or San Diego’s…36 year old Peyton is not going to change that. He chokes in big games.

  46. 5against1 says: Mar 19, 2012 12:57 PM

As a seahawks fan, how can you feel sorry for any NFL franchise? How many rings do the oceanchickens have?

I can see the raider dorks are nervous. One idiot was actually bragging about the Charger’s record against Peyton. If you have to resort to bragging up a division rival, you’re scared. And you should be. Raiders=dumpster fire, residing in the cellar of the AFC West 2012.

    ———————————————–

Ok. Let me be more clear. Denver’s defense was 20th in yards and 24th in points last season (source NFL). So it really wasn’t good at all, and that’s with the number one ranked rushing offense in the league protecting it. Oh yeah, this same defense will also likely be missing a few guys due to substance violations. Good luck, pal.

  64. mrslay1 says: Mar 19, 2012 3:03 PM

I don’t understand people that think they know football would talk trash about the Debver DF. With Tebow they had a slow and non productive OF and made the second round of the playoffs. I’m not a Denver fan and even I can see the DF carried them last year. Manning has never had a DF half as good as Denver is now. With that he will tear up the League.

  65. eggersthejerk says: Mar 19, 2012 3:21 PM

I am surprised that Tennessee hasn’t tried to sign this guy, with or without Manning. They need a new center badly.

  66. raiderapologist says: Mar 19, 2012 4:20 PM

Manning probably had many conditions that Elway had to meet. I’m guessing two of them involved getting rid of Tebow and bringing in a decent center. The guy they had last year was terrible.
